    There's one line in this movie that I always remember when I think of this movie;
    "You don't have to like each other, but you WILL RESPECT each other."
    I think Coach Boone knew that the players weren't just going to overcome their racial prejudices overnight. By setting the standard of mutual respect, I think it slowly but surely helped the players grow and it was great to see both the black and white football players become good friends with each other.

    My older brother was a quarter-back when this movie came out in theaters in 2000. I was a 9 year old waterboy. Every Thursday night for weeks they would get as many of the teammates as they could and they would all go to the theater and watch this movie before game night.
    They ended up 13-0 and winning the Illinois 3-A State Championship.

    I purposely had my sons watch this movie 7 and 10. They didn’t get a lot of the hateful comments like us grown folks do but the thing they understood was we are all people. We all bleed red and just because someone doesn’t look like you, doesn’t mean you can’t love them. We base people off the content of their heart, not their skin.

    One thing I always loved about this movie is that the characters are flawed by their ignorance and not because they are bad people. They only knew one way and have to overcome it. Even Denzel's character at 12:10 says the other coach should " get the girl some dolls" and had to be reminded of his ignorance. Little add ins like that show the realism.

I was an all-state linebacker in Tennessee and my coach said his dad coached in Virginia during this time period and the Titans never came close to losing a game that year. They just Hollywoodized the movie and I love it but they never came close to losing a game according to my coach

    Interesting fact...the movie was filmed at my high school Druid Hills shortly after I graduated. In the scene where they are getting of the buses and going into the school and there was all the protests a good family film was one of the extras that was talking smack to them when they were going in (he was one of the big white dudes). The black woman that was looking out the window with Denzel was the actual principal (Mrs. Meriweather). The football practice scenes from camp were filmed at Shamrock football field, which had been my high school before Dekalb county did a merger and it became the middle school. When I hit reserve status in the Corps I lived up in Rome with my GF at the time. She went to Berry College and thats where the camp scenes were filmed (with all the old buildings etc). Sweet Home Alabama was also filmed up in Rome around the same time. That same GF was a freshman at Berry at that time so I was up there all the time and saw Reese Witherspoon up there...who is friggin TINY.

    This is a bit of an off-the-wall suggestion, but another really good underdog movie to check out is Seabiscuit. It's about horse racing so not many people react to it, but it's an incredible story and absolutely worth a watch!

    There's few things in life where you can't trust a person who doesn't like something. This movie is one of those things.

    Love this movie and I know nothing about American football as I come from the UK but this film is about so much more than football, not sure if you have already done it but if not coach Carter is another great sports movie that is about so much more than the sport, I'd love to see you react to that.

    07:08 That was my Head Coach. If one of us fumbled, may God have mercy on our poor souls.
