  • The kind folks at iskn sent me one of their drawing tablets called Repaper. I've seen plenty of ads about their product, but this time I get to unbox and test it out to give my honest feedback. I'm stoked because who doesn't want to experience the joy of drawing on paper, with your real tools, and have it save digitally? Check out the video for my full review.

The pencil/eraser situation can be solved quickly. Let's say a white ring for drawing and a red ring for erasing, and the system just detects wich one of the two is moving. Simple UX solution.

    • @sadev101

but now you watch your drawing and it not quite matches the screen as your erasing is never going to be accurate to whats on screen

I bet if they were to integrate the tablet to have a back lit feature, this would be great for a tattoo artist. Enabling them to trace just the parts of multiple images on a clean sheet & it merges into one image on the screen. Then they just print to the tattoo transfer paper.

Looked really interesting but it seems very complicated for what would be super simple on an iPad or even just a regular sketchbook (then scanned with your phone). Analogue drawing is still lovely but for me it's only because it's simple. This seems to make it a bit of a chore and ultimately is a bit of a gimmick.

I have a similar view. I wanted this for a long time but then found a workaround with my iPad Pro where I simply photograph my physical work and import it into Procreate (ground breaking, I know) you maintain a lot of the line work and detail through simple layer tools which, to me, is the reason you would want to be using these products in the first place. I’d probably consider the product if it had procreate support. But it’s still just the native app.

Hi Brad, I just liked your post and have put you at an even 850! I have been invited to review this same Repaper tablet. I'm in the same boat with you as I basically draw and then scan whatever and whenever. That said, the Repaper has some intriguing qualities: it looks to genuinely be a grab-and-go plus it looks super easy to plug into your laptop. I'll have to post my review and update you on what my final verdict is! And, by the way, you have an outstanding TH-cam channel. Makes me think of more to say but I'll wait. I may have a project for you.

From what I see is that it can be a good use for getting the base ready so that it can be imported to other devices that have the drawing app like Ibis Paint X or Procreate (etc.) I am willing to give it a try once I have enough to buy it. It saves up a lot of trouble of paying so much items that could easily get used 24/7 yet I draw a lot and I burn through a lot of pencils and papers because of so many ideas that pop up in my mind.

They should give us a 2 parts dual pair, like a latest wireless earbuds, Bluetooth or USB A or C connections. OR, left primary and right secondary of a mouse click.
Like a left primary mouse click, program as Write,
The Right secondary mouse click, program as right.

There is one button at the top for a new page and one for a new layer. I assume the new layer means a new document. Like you write down some pages of task one and then start a simple to do list on a new piece of paper and press the "new layer" button?
Is the surface suitable for writing with a ball pen on a single layer of paper or does it have this weird feeling like you don't get any ink out of the pen?

... and it holds the paper nice and tight... (the paper is juggling around...) seriously ? 😕

Interesting concept but seems like a waste of time and money to me. I like to sketch on paper then take a photo of it and ink it on the Ipad

OR you can just buy an iPad and free yourself of paper

1 the result is not 100% the same. ive seen scans of rawings as compaired to what is saved. and its not there.
2 now you limit yourself to only a pencil or the gimmick airbrush.. anything else. like painting in photoshop you would need to stare at screen as what your drawing on paper doesnt match at all then
3 how is this an improvement on a good scanner.
4 you need to llift pen more as get to close without touch it can still register
    5. lag
for this price you can own a 12 inch drawing onitor that can connect to mac ,linux, windows ,android and be used with any software.
i honestly do not see the advantage other then its a nice curiosity.

My daughter draws very well, and she didn't like it. It is too inaccurate, to the point that it makes tons of mistakes in the digital version.
