Hey, good video, I have just managed to get a kr400 and 500 new old stock, the 400 works fine but the 500 was seized and the pot is not working at all.. I have a question about the steel balls and the retainer, as the retainer cant really move as it is sprung held in place, the balls cant move or rotate, the rotator tube just rubs on the balls.. I am thinking of removing the retainer so the balls can actually move with the shaft as it turns. I get the idea behind the retainer, but it doesnt allow the balls to do their job.... any thoughts on this ?

Hi Cliff, Thank you for the comment, I see where you are from. If the retainer fingers are set right the ball bearings do roll & the retainer is dragged around the housing. However if the grease goes off or you use very thick stringy grease the bearings will have a hard time turning. Leaving the retainer out has it own set of problems:- You will now have a larger gap between the axial & the housing which will let more water in, these El rotators already have a water ingress problem doing this will make it worse, of cause you will need extra bearings to take up the gap left by the removal of the retainer. If you want more info please get in contact with me via my web site, the link is in the description. Regards Peter
