Thanks for the video, Greg. Just what my partner's been asking for in her new-build bay window for the past two years and yours is just what she wants. Thanks! :-)
Thank you for this video. Been wanting to do this myself but never felt confident enough in the past. After being let down a few times with builders, I finished off their work and pleased with the results. Watching this, I am going to get the wood and build one. Thanks again for making this video. Really helps massively!!
Thanks. I made this. The addition was built by a previous homeowner decades ago and is no longer level. So I built the front framework first, then using a level placed the back baton with one screw in the center. This enabled me to get it level with the front and then the tilt the baton horizontally until that was level. The rest went as you described. I noticed that you placed a baton on the floor behind the front framework.
@@sohail789 he means you need a vent or similar otherwise the contents inside the cupboards will become mouldy. Having said this, I fitted similar in my house years ago and never had a problem.
Great video, would be really helpful if you did a full list of materials needed at the beginning. For people with no DIY experience it's a little tricky to know where to get started on that front! Wish me luck!
Thanks for the video! Was looking at building one myself. Gonna be using ply and then getting a vinyl wood look over the top. Just wondering how you accurately measured the board for the top? Ill have a sheet of ply and Ofcourse it won't fit to just draw around it and cut it out. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. So the top is built of floor boards so I didn’t need to measure the whole thing. But if I were I would measure either the front or back length. Then find the angle of the wall, draw that on your sheet and measure the depth you want and done. No need to do any maths or anything
I'm planning to build two and attach them together shape as an L. I wasn't sure if i should attach my seating to the wall?? Or make two boxes and add a frame in front without attaching them to the wall.
Either should work great, making boxes before hand and attaching face frames is the more traditional, however would cost more in material. I would always suggest drawing it out first and even input it into a 3D modelling tool like Sketchup. it always helps me.
@@gregpugh4632 Making boxes and adding frames will cost more. I didn't think about that. This will be my first time building a bay window seating, but i feel confident that could do it. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for your video
Great video, but would have been really helpful to see how you cut the angles for the top. This is always my downfall in DIY projects! Just can't work them out!
Caitlin Hillary thanks for the comment. I just used a digital angle finder, and measured the smaller length and then applied the angle. Always cut on the side of a bit to big and trim down. Just keep trying and having fun building.
Good question. I had it custom made online. I can’t find the website I used but something like this site will help www.foamandcovers.co.uk/bespoke-cushions
Luis Rios thanks for the comment, in this project I used pine from my local timer merchant, you can get it planned to the thickness you like to make life easier. Hope it helps.
@@BigBoJay so i built the doors by adding some decretive strips to an MDF cut out, nothing crazy, to hang them i just added the hinges without countersinking them, they are thin hinges so no bother. Like i said i hated doing doors, and this was a simple go at them, i have got better though trying and now use a router options to build styles and rails and slot the board in a groove. hope that helps
I have an identical space - just with a radiator - is something like this still advisable with some of ventilation or would you recommend an alternative option? I would like as close to what you have done here as possible tbh... Thanks.
Kai Johnson thanks for the comment. So this one cost about £125. Was simple 2x3 lengthens and some flooring boards. The MDF I used for the doors I already had. But prob just about £30 for the sheet + decorative strip wood. Post yours once complete yours man.
This doesn't really show how it's done for the most basic of DIYers. Like how to put the rawl plugs into the wall.. Also really hard to make out what you're saying, because you mumble.

Ensure to create an opening for the air to circulate in constant flow. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Not sure what you mean

@gregpugh4632 ah that's great I'm rubbish at maths anyways haha! If not I'll just do what you did and make slats out of the ply wood
Great video. Can I ask what thickness of wood was used for the framework?
Awesome project and good crisp video. Thanks
Great video and demo. Thank you
Can you let me know what size wood you are fixing to the wall please? Very helpful video 😊
I think they were 3 by 1.5 inch timber. I know they were not full on 2by4s
Really Good work
How did u attatch the 4 middle wooden bits to the back main wall
Hard to see but should be pocket holes
great video
bend your hinges it will equal out the door gap around the edges
Approx how many hours will this take for a fairly knowledgeable person??
Hi. It took me a day to build all the framing and top. Then I did the doors and started the paint the second day. Give it a go. You got this
Would have been good to see how you screwed in the beams into the wall
Hi Nice video. Did you use the studs in the wall to fix the batons to? Thanks.

Fantastic job! Do you have plans to do more videos like this?
How did you figure out how much smaller to make the doors than the openings so that they fit properly
Borisaurus Rex, just taking 2mm off each edge gave me plenty of space, the doors are only 18mm thick so don’t need much space to pivot.
@@gregpugh4632 thanks for the response. Did you use a router to put the MDF board in for the doors or is there an even simpler method?

How many hours to put this together?
What is the name of the paint color you used
Really sorry but can’t remember the colour, it was an oil based farrow and ball paint. Hope that helps.
I need the materials for this project
Didn't actually see any wood cutting or fixing just when it was already done
How does a Carpenter call it wood?? Its timber
What should I charge for this?

Are you going to finish the inside of it? It looks horrible
nadya kinchen thanks for the comment. Yes I put down carpet inside to help with looks but also drafts from the floor boards.
Aww okay great, other than that it's really lovely

So watch a video on how to put plugs into the wall. Or do you need instructions for that also?
