Hey Pat not sure if you'll read this comment, huge fan of your channel! I was wondering if you could make another experiment video, this time it would be to test different ways to open up packs and finding out if there are certain ways that leads to a higher possibility of damaging the cards. I'm about to begin my collecting journey and it's always really interesting seeing the different ways people open packs, some slow/carefully, and others really quickly. Anyways, hope you have a good one!
@@Shadow72eapers Here's a tip that is try to avoid pressing the pack with the Thumb accidentally because that can bend your card so if you send grading that will be a problem to not getting Gem Mint 10
I got back into collecting last year but realized how much the game itself made collecting more fun. Opening packs went beyond hunting for alt arts or investment pieces and it got me excited for random cards like Drizzile, Malamar, Marnie, etc to build rogue decks. I find myself buying more codes than physical cards now. It's been fun playing and I've gotten somewhat decent learning from Tricky Gym, Azul and LDF. Very excited for PTCGL. Also, there is a third win condition - milling the opponent's deck until they can no longer draw. Learned that the hard way. (Thanks Durant + Devour)
We are right there with you Pat. My sons and I have only ever collected and enjoyed the cards for their artwork and value, either $$$ or sentimental. But my oldest is 12 and decided to try the online version. Now he’s hooked! Just scanning the codes and “reopening” packs is a big hit for us all. He’s learning to play still, and hopefully one day we’ll be able to play in real live tournaments! I know our local comic store owner told us they hold new players days on saturdays, so really looking forward to getting us there for that soon. Please keep making these types of videos, already love your collecting passion this is an awesome bonus!
Honestly, I think this is my favorite video that I've seen from you and I'm super bummed that you didn't continue the series. I hope you're still playing and getting the dubs!
11:46 - ruined chance to not put the 'shady dealings' drizzile up on screen - every time I see that card, not only is it a great pull IRL money wise, it reminds me of how good it is in the meta of the card game - ooohweee that effect of searching for 2 trainers every time you evolve one is definitely awesome - not only that, but SF made a shiny version of the shady dealings drizzile!! Edit after the fact: YES! do MORE of these! absolutely would love to see a 'collector' turn to the tcg side - It has its ups and downs just like many things in life - but as you said, the fact that it puts you on auto pilot for pokemon once you get in the groove of the TCG, is just a nice change of pace after being so anxious about the new physical collector sets and FOMO - Really enjoyed this video; may have to get back into the online TCG when the new live app comes out, as ill have no excuse not to play it since it will be on the phone!
One of my favorite video's you've done, Brofessor Oak! The online TCG is legendary, such a great time. However, it's even better in person! The atmosphere, the energy, the enthusiastic trainers... the smell of fresh packs & sounds of shuffling decks and snappin' of sleeves onto a crisp game mat... I remember back in the day when having your cards sleeved was more uncommon than sleeved... time fly's like a Pidgeot. Amazing video, great to open some other collectors eye's to the original intent of this hobby! As I always say, TRAIN ON X GAME ON!
As someone with a foot in both communities I can definitely say that each side of the hobby enriches the other. I've been at tournaments and had great fun trading on side tables; and I've had countless green coffee card packs saved because I've pulled something useful for a deck I want to build. More than anything, playing the game creates a connection with certain cards that you then go onto treasure. I love the Tapu Koko promo cards from Sun & Moon because they were the linchpin of my favourite decks in that format - if I was only a collector, I'd never have appreciated the cards as much. Keep on going, and enjoy the journey!
Dude this is hands down my favorite video from pat . Not that I don't love them all but this one hit differently secretly engaging by playing the tcg with the fans using knockout decks from legends themselves and recording it . I'm in ahh my friend Amazing video ❤ 👏
I’m also a collector, but I don’t like using my cards physically so I stick to the online version. Love seeing more collectors play as well. Keep up the great work Pat.
The only thing preventing me from playing PTCGO is knowing my competitive nature and obsession ahead of time. I just can't do that to myself right now. That and the fear of my wife making me sleep in the garage if I take on one more hobby. Nice job chronicling your progress through this. I will definitely tune into more of this content.
This is awesome! I love that you play the TCG now. I love your new found respect for certain cards. I often see collectors toss aside a card that's incredible in the tcg just because it's not an ultra rare.
I started collecting a loooong time ago, and only in 2020 did I start playing the online card game. I’m so glad I started because it’s a great game, and it’s so much fun to play against other people! I’m so glad you decided to do this!
Great video! I started playing the TCG at my local game shop and what I learnt was this:- Find a type that you like Decide on play style (snipe, buff, delay etc) Do pretend hands and see how your draw is and test it's consistency Get out and play and make friends :D
This might be your most inlfuential video yet sir :) as a long time fan of the actual card game, I really respect this! Congratulations on the METAL VICTORY!
The pokémon tcg is so inviting and beginner friendly. I made my transition from a collector to a player earlier this year, and I'm having a great time online. Money for digital packs is typically very easy to come by, and as you continue to accumulate the physical packs, you get more and more digital packs. That's partly what sets this card game above the rest. My digital collection currently puts my physical collection to shame, but I've logged more games online than in person. If I ever wanted to play in person, I'd have everything I need to know.
Hey Pat, it is nice to see you playing the Pokémon TCG. If I may I would like to recommend if you were to continue to do this to try out the Expanded format and explore more decks and some of the alternative win conditions. For example Mill, you lose the game when you your turn starts and are unable to draw a card from your deck. What mill decks do is make it so you are discarding your opponent's deck in hope your opponent loses by being unable to draw at the start of their turn.
@memeinstein6965 I am learning on live as a prospective player, with a losing record on there as well. hey I'm here to learn, the game is a learning experience I will be directly learning on the actual product this week from a Play Pokemon Judge and his kid with loaner decks for new player Wednesdays as I will be learning it for instructional purposes only and to learn should my primary game (yugioh) be unavailable, what should I know about the Pokemon TCG should I jump in on a game myself should both be held together at an official tournament store and to do well with Pokemon? Should I start by getting record up in live first before most will think about playing me on the real cards since that is a learning curve for players who are 20+ or more years removed (I'm 24 of them removed and a product of the Wizards of the Coast era of the game)
I'm 53 (today) a collector and investor and fan of the art and Pokemon controls 25% of my life. Knowing myself as I do, I have no doubt that downloading and beginning to actually play the game online would take the other 74% :) I left 1% for toilet breaks. Really enjoyed you doing what I wasn't brave enough to try!
Glad you got sucked in. I’m really competitive and have been playing for quite some time. I love coming up with decks and making them work well. It would be awesome to play the tcg with you. Playing the tcg creates such a huge appreciation for all of the cards, not just the hits
Glad that you find this side of the hobby! I have played the game for 17 years, and some of my best memories come from the Pokemon game play. (Turnaments, trips and friendships) Keep up the good work!
When my son got into Pokémon about 7 years ago, he started off collecting the cards, but we learned how to play the game (with physical cards) together and had a ton of fun doing so. About a year or two ago, he switched it up and collects them as collectibles and TH-cam now. Kind of the reverse of your path haha! Maybe we’ll try Live when that launches.
Would absolutely watch this as a regular series! There’s also tournaments you can enter, both mini ones in the client for backs, and bigger ones with cash prizes. Would love to see your road to competing in Zack’s Late Night series, for example.
Pat! 👏👏👏 You just keep getting better and raising the bar!! A true champion!! Thanks for showing appreciation to the card game and seeing through all the layers!

Finally! Amazing man. I believe every poketuber , especially the larger ones, should at least commit to playing and learning the game so they can appreciate the tcg from a wholistic perspective.
Yes!!! I've been a collector and a player both equally for as long as as can remember. I'm not good, but I love to see collectors getting converted into players. Hype for TCG Live!
I saw myself in this video, that was dope! I knew you were playing the tcg a bit as you had mentioned in your other streams/vids, I also had been dabbling in it a bit myself. After watching this vid you have incouraged me to dive deeper into the the tcg further to try and hone my skills, who knows maybe someday I'll end up deck battling you on the playmat Pat Flynn. Correction there are 3 ways to win a game of Pokemon, when an player has no cards remaining in their deck when they are promoted to draw at the beginning of their turn, they lose (probably the least common way but some decks are entirely built to force a longer game that removes resources!) Happy to see how excited you are coming into the game and hilarious to see the first couple of deck choices!
For anyone that wants to learn how to be a better player or how to get started, for a strong deck you should purchase the Mew VMAX League Battle Deck. It's a very strong deck with a low price tag. Have fun!
Nice! I got into the tcg recently too, and seeing how vast the meta/decks are is really fun ! Favourite deck is not meta but falinks V is really fun ! It also changes how you see cards beside the art :)
This was such a good video! I was hoping you'd join a local tourney at the end but 500 games is wild! Not sure if you're planning on continuing this series since it's been a while but it would be cool to see you opening packs and making decks from them or just playing the game. Have a good one!
I’ve recently went from collecting to collecting and being a huge fan of playing the TCG. I have created 3 decks so far and I’m loving it. I don’t mean to brag but I think I’m pretty decent! Good luck with your games!
Sick video. Collecting is so fun, but you really start to appreciate all of the cards more after you play with them. Commons, uncommons when pulled are more fun to obtain because you know they can be used in a lot of decks etc. Check out Andrew’s (tricky gym) gym leader challenge singleton format. Cards from about 9 years back can be used in decks and it makes for some really fun deck building and use of cards you wouldn’t otherwise see in competitive modern decks. Hopefully this video draws more collectors into trying the tcg.
Congrats on that huge victory on your 500th game!! Very cool video and can’t wait to see more like this one!! Also I saw the sneak peak on your insta yesterday!! 😎
Congrats Pat! Thats awesome and thrilled to see you get in on the Gameplay side! I found I appreciated some of the cards a lot more as well, aside from the art. I just passed a milestone of 3000 games recently after playing for about 2 years. Looking forward to maybe running a deck against you one day ;P Until then, keep up the great content. -Brad
You’re SUCH a gifted creator, Pat! Your style always reminded me of Guy Ros from NPR haha. I know you’ve been making content a long time, but your videos are so fun and effortless to watch. Also couldn’t agree more that TCG’s are a million times more enjoyable to collect when you’re a player as well, and often playing can be even more fun than collecting! I’m looking forward to following your new journey as a player! 🏆😁
YES!!! dude I hope I play you!!! I got in to this the same as you. I started as a collector, and wanted to play but didn’t want to ruin my nice cards😂 so I started playing TCG online! You should do a deep pocket monster members tournament! I would be so down for that!!
You sneaky dog. I was wondering when you would talked about the TG online. When i first started recollecting a couple years ago, I tried the online game and it was fun but never went on to making my new deck. This is a cool video thanks!
Hey pat this video is awesome and the last thing you said really hit deep! I loved playing magic in real life and wish I had the time like I used to just to play any tcg irl. Good luck on your ventures I can’t wait to see more!
this was great fun to watch. might just try the TCGO once more. been some time since last time and well, got some couple of thousand of code cards around aswell XD hehe great video Pat.
Pat! Love that you put your hard work and time into the game side of Pokémon and happy to see your genuine love for the community. Keep up the content brother.
Its about time that collectors should learn the real purpose this cards in the first place, which is for the game and not as an investment to make profit. I hope pat flynn encourage more collectors to play the game and to grow the other side of the hobby
I play the Pokemon trading card game online and I can confirm that booster packs are not typically used as a currency to trade. I usually see trades that are pack for pack, card for card ect.
I started playing around on the otcg around a year ago and it gave me a huge appreciation for trainers and abilities. This was a great vid and I’m really excited for the series. I’m always trying to talk my friends into playing.
There are actually 4 ways to win. 1) take all of your prize cards, 2) knock out their entire bench, 3) the opponent runs out of cards to draw, or 4) the opponent's time runs out. You can build stall decks for the last two.
One of the best ways to learn playing actual Pokemon cards for a brand new player would be the Game Boy game. Highly underrated went back to it a couple months back still great. Would be interesting to see them make another one of those on the switch with modern cards
1,000% want to see more! I just started playing and it's so much fun! Look like I need to make a standard deck to compete. Using expanded ATM! Great vid....it literally got me up from playing fortnite, to play some tcg 👍
Might just get me into playing the actual Pokémon TCG now 💯💯🔥🔥watched until the very end. Very nice guys who play the game. Especially when you ran into neon cactus 🌵 🙏🏽
I got into the ptcgo about 3 months ago and it is a lot of fun. I'm currently playing a jolteon beedrill deck that the youtuber tricky gym recommended and its really fun. It also made me look at that new alt art jolteon vmax collection in a completely different way than collectors do.
You have such a relatable journey into playing and I loved following along. I’m looking forward to more and will keep an eye out for you on the ladder 💪
bringing up the topic of bulk. What can you do with bulk? I've heard to throw it out, sell it, make art with it. What do card shops do that ask for peoples bulk? do they resell it?
when you play the TCG, you begin to see how certain cards are important and have bigger value than some chase cards. it's insane how many people give away or sell away their bulk where their contains staple cards or pokemon that the meta consists of in standard gameplay. I learned after my first bulk dump and since then I always scan through my bulk before I sell them off.
Wife and I started playing last year. Even bought physical decks and play mats to play against each other. It is a lot of fun, but I don't think I'd do so hot online. I also have a few tins full of code cards.
Hey Pat! (Or anyone else watching) do you have the link to the urshifu v deck you used? I wanted to give it a try but I can’t seem to find the same deck. Thanks a ton!

The only reason its popular is mahone and the format itself isnt even that good :) Just inconsistent piles of different color pokemon
3:17 Correction! There are three ways to win. The third is to force your opponent to draw all their cards. When you run out of cards you lose.
I'm loving the middle of the night, 12 hours into a session ungroomed Pat hahahaha. 12.45 is the time stamp. The man has become possessed. Brilliant.
🤣
Congrats on that huge victory on your 500th game!! Very cool video and can’t wait to see more like this one!! Also I saw the sneak peak on your insta yesterday!! 😎
Absolutely would love to see more gameplay! Definitely an awesome video that you put together to showcase they journey so far! 🙌🏻💜🙌🏻

This is awsome !! Sooo happy to have you on that side too !!
Love how u stepped over to the play side of the cards.
Hey pat this video is awesome and the last thing you said really hit deep! I loved playing magic in real life and wish I had the time like I used to just to play any tcg irl. Good luck on your ventures I can’t wait to see more!
I havent played the tcg game at all! Thank you for showcasing your journey!
this was great fun to watch. might just try the TCGO once more. been some time since last time and well, got some couple of thousand of code cards around aswell XD hehe great video Pat.
This is super cool!!!!
I love the PTCG content
keep it up Pat!
Yayyyyy welcome to the game!!!!! Such a fun way to enjoy the hobby :)
Let’s Goooooooo!!!! 500 Games!! Whoa!! 👀👀🤯🤯.. That Box they put together for you was super cool!! I need to get back into the TCG
Pat! Love that you put your hard work and time into the game side of Pokémon and happy to see your genuine love for the community. Keep up the content brother.
love this video pat i actually got back into the online game and played a ton, awesome video
this is so awesome man, great for everyone in the hobby, thank you! keep the tcg/o vids comin!
Its about time that collectors should learn the real purpose this cards in the first place, which is for the game and not as an investment to make profit. I hope pat flynn encourage more collectors to play the game and to grow the other side of the hobby
Really sad that this video didn't do as well as your others. One of your best vids IMO!
Loving the production quality, keep up the good work!
I LOVE THIS! Totally agree that playing the tcg makes opening packs way more fun.
This was cool to see! I started out by playing the game and then started collecting. I think you can’t lose if you are on both sides!
Hrll that was completely awesome. I loved this video. Soooooo freaking cool. Love seeing you interact with community
1,000% want to see more! I just started playing and it's so much fun! Look like I need to make a standard deck to compete. Using expanded ATM! Great vid....it literally got me up from playing fortnite, to play some tcg 👍
Good job dude! Very impressive! Can't wait to see more videos like this
Sounds like a great goal! I would love to learn more about playing it online
Might just get me into playing the actual Pokémon TCG now 💯💯🔥🔥watched until the very end. Very nice guys who play the game. Especially when you ran into neon cactus 🌵 🙏🏽
Let's goo!!! Your a beast Pat hope to see you win that Trophy Gotta host a youtuber Tcg Tournament for the Vlog!
Love it ! As a Dutch player since base set I love this content. See you on the championship !
This was my favorite! I can't wait to see you at a tournament 🤙
Watching you convert from a collector to a player is what this game is all about 👌 so much fun ❤
bringing up the topic of bulk. What can you do with bulk? I've heard to throw it out, sell it, make art with it. What do card shops do that ask for peoples bulk? do they resell it?
Great video pat! Love TCG Online!
when you play the TCG, you begin to see how certain cards are important and have bigger value than some chase cards. it's insane how many people give away or sell away their bulk where their contains staple cards or pokemon that the meta consists of in standard gameplay. I learned after my first bulk dump and since then I always scan through my bulk before I sell them off.
I missed the physical game play. I still have my badges from back I the day! Please please make more videos like this. Super awesome!
Wife and I started playing last year. Even bought physical decks and play mats to play against each other. It is a lot of fun, but I don't think I'd do so hot online. I also have a few tins full of code cards.
Frosted Caribou collaboration when?! She's really into the competitive side and loves trying to teach new players.
Absolutely love this pursuit, Pat! Keep up the great work!
I really love this bro! Make this a real series. I’d love to watch and share it 😁😁
Pat here are my go to ptcgo poketubers
- andrew mahone
-zach lasage
-little dark fury
-Azul gg
I hope a crossover happens here!!!
Thank you so much! I cannot wait to teach my friends this so we can play in school
Your determination to be the best at what you do is unbelievable. Love the way you function!
Hey Pat! (Or anyone else watching) do you have the link to the urshifu v deck you used? I wanted to give it a try but I can’t seem to find the same deck. Thanks a ton!
Look up “single strike deck” “Urshifu” that might lead you to it.
@@deeppocketmonsterThere were a few different variants but I found the right one! This video has inspired me to get back into the game! Good Luck on you matches (I doubt you’ll need luck :)
Man super awesome video....would love to watch you play a full one with a great player 🤘❤️
Awesome video! I was really wondering how the TCG has evolved over the years and it's great to see somebody give a good review about it
Makes me wanna try the tcg for the first time since 1999 keep up the amazing content
