I moved from NM to Canada a year after this video came out. It's a great way to give people a taste of where I'm from. I still watch it when I get homesick. I'm so happy it exists, so thank you for making it!

Albuquerque / Sandia Mtn /Madrid/ Santa Fe area. although, God knows there's hardly ever any law presence in Madrid, if ever. maybe it comes out of golden, but that seems unlikely cuz it seems like you just drive through there without hardly noticing it. Now that I mention it, where the hell does the law come from when it bothers with Madrid at all? last time I checked, Mad Dog, as he called himself, was basically a rent-a-cop in charge of Madrid... And The Mineshaft. but of course he's dead now.

ABQ born and raised, of all these, I only use: "I know, huh" "..or what?" "..or no?" use "that's all.." in a lot of sentences, examples being "that's all gross" "that's all sick" "that's all crazy" and 'coke' for soda in general.

This is not just an NM thing. Chicanos in Denver speak the same exact way. A huge portion of the Mestizo population in CO have their roots in NM, so it makes sense. It's a byproduct of clinging to a culture that the US tried to beat out of us.
I was a transplant from ABQ to Chi town and you're right, it was a culture shock. I got hassled a lot for saying soda instead of pop. When I ordered chili on something it would come out covered in beans and meat, midwest chilie, not green chili like I've grown up on. you'd think it wouldn't be such a huge culture difference, but it is.

Being a native New Mexican, I find this video hilarious. This sounds like people I grew up with - and it sounds like me sometimes, too. You may say that it's Burquenos, but this could be people from Socorro, too. Suggestions for the next video: "Not EEEEven!", "Ow, I stepped on a puya (sticker)", "Vamos, let's go!" (while twirling your index finger overhead.), "Orale, vato", the term "Burque", something mentioning about going to the casino, Talking about Santana, the song "Low Rider", etc.
I agree. It's more of a cultural thing, not a sign of intelligence. My mom is white, but grew up in Santa Fe with a lot of Hispanic people. She is now a teacher with more than 4 years of education and she still says a lot of these things.
I grew up in Pueblo, Colorado in the 70's. I'm not Mexican but, I remember as little kids we didn't say "Ombers"; we said "uuummmmm", if someone did something wrong. I never knew where that came from till now. Everything else is spot on too!
@@decollector95 I was told recently that schools back in the 50s and 60s teachers would punish kids for speaking anything but English. But that was also in a Catholic school. So they’re regional accent remained but they never actually learned the language
fun fact: at the 2012 ballon fiesta my younger sister (she was 6 at the time) saw her their and my parents convinced her to go up to her and say: “wanna coke?” she laughed and gave her a hug it was adorable 😂

From Socorro to Chama and from Grants to Tucumcari there will always be people with a " Moch" it changes from town to town. Las Vegas NM kinda sing their words. My hometown. But its not just chicanos from the barrio. I know white men and women with last names like smith and kretz and fleming who talk like that too. Its not just a chicano thing. And Vice versa. I know hispanics who talk with a heavy southern twang. Go to Clovis or Logan or any Texas border town on the NM TX stateline. I've heard Martinez and Chavez and Aragons with the biggest Texas accents you've ever heard. Its about where you're from........Right!!!???
It is the accent of northern New Mexico - since it is now mostly found on the ranches it is pejoritive. Ella es bien mocha por que es del rancho. It is actually a unique-world accent because it is pitched - learned from the Apaches and Navajos whose languages are pitched - Apaches and Navajoes descended from the Athapaskins - still in Canada -the Athapaskins are the only Native Americans in ALL the Americans who kept their Mongolian based tonal language - all others in the Americans dropped the tones.
I didn't realized that "get down from the car" was not the right way to say it until I joined the military and the only person who got what I said was from New Mexico
I was born and raised in Vegas NM and the culture shock I got when I moved to AZ was insane. From the way I referred to things to my pronunciation of words to my slang. I’ve lived in AZ for like 7 years, so now I have a more diluted accent mixed with the white girl Arizona accent. But some speech habits still stick around
I don't get why everyone give NM such a bad rep. Ya, it's sparsely populated, and it takes a while for the newer things to reach us here, and we have our problems just like any other state, but we also have a lot of good, beautiful things in our state, not to mention our amazing history. I think people really need to think about everything before they complain about how NM is boring or full of stupid people. I was born and raised here, in Albuquerque, and I've been to many other states. There are just as many stupid people in every other place I've been to as there are here.
i agree with that totally. i was born and raised in Albuquerque/ Bernalillo. though its pretty funny and damn near accurate for some, not all of us talk that way lol but, i do know quite a bit of people that do talk like this. i dont judge but i will laugh. makes me miss home. =)

Moved here from PA in 1980 and never looked back. I honestly don't care if people think the place is boring or stupid, or that we're all meth-addicted criminals-even (maybe especially) if it keeps them away. It's a magical place and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

I''m a New Yorker and I don't think I have ever met anyone from New Mexico in my entire life nor I've heard your accent in any movies so these expressions are completely new to me. You guys have a very interesting accent. I have a question and i'm sorry if I sound ignorant. Are those Spanish expressions used by Caucasians as well? or just Hispanics?
They aren't saying "hambre" they are saying "ombers" which means "Uh-oh!" Although "a la máquina" is Spanish, it is not meant to use its literal translation. It is the acceptable substitution for "a la v****a" (also said in one of these videos but if you say this in front of you NM mom, duck 'cause you're going to get slapped as it is a very bad word). Both phrases mean roughly "Oh s**t." All New Mexicans do not speak like this all the time, however, most of us use some of these phrases frequently. Everyone speaks like this in certain regions, in other regions, no one speaks like this. Hope this helps

It's almost more of a city thing, than a cultural thing, meaning you'll see black, brown, white, yellow, red folks from super young to old all sharing in the same vernaculars. It's kind of cool to be a part of that.

Lady, i've been in the Marine Corps and away from Burque for some years now @ Camp Pendleton. One of the guys i work with (from Moriarty H.S.) grabbed me today and dragged me to see the vids. I didn't even realize the crazy shit we burquians say til i saw this vid. I realized that we do have our own way of saying & expressing ourselves.... beautiful work, lady.
I grew up in Cruces and many of my friends would say bueno at the end of a conversation. If we were ending a phone call they would say bueno instead of good bye. Still makes me smile.
Some people just have to tell you they're smart since It's not apparent otherwise. Rather than just appreciating something that's funny as hell. Albuquerque was the big city when I was a kid in Durango. Loved this!

Moved here from PA in 1980 and never looked back. I honestly don't care if people think the place is boring or stupid, or that we're all meth-addicted criminals-even (maybe especially) if it keeps them away. It's a magical place and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

What in the hell is "omber"? and "a la mahina" LOL sounds funny. I''m a New Yorker and I don't think I have ever met anyone from New Mexico in my entire life nor I've heard your accent in any movies so these expressions are completely new to me. You guys have a very interesting accent. I have a question and i'm sorry if I sound ignorant. Are those Spanish expressions used by Caucasians as well? or just Hispanics?

They aren't saying "hambre" they are saying "ombers" which means "Uh-oh!" Although "a la máquina" is Spanish, it is not meant to use its literal translation. It is the acceptable substitution for "a la v****a" (also said in one of these videos but if you say this in front of you NM mom, duck 'cause you're going to get slapped as it is a very bad word). Both phrases mean roughly "Oh s**t."
All New Mexicans do not speak like this all the time, however, most of us use some of these phrases frequently. Everyone speaks like this in certain regions, in other regions, no one speaks like this. Hope this helps

It's almost more of a city thing, than a cultural thing, meaning you'll see black, brown, white, yellow, red folks from super young to old all sharing in the same vernaculars. It's kind of cool to be a part of that.

Lady, i've been in the Marine Corps and away from Burque for some years now @ Camp Pendleton. One of the guys i work with (from Moriarty H.S.) grabbed me today and dragged me to see the vids. I didn't even realize the crazy shit we burquians say til i saw this vid. I realized that we do have our own way of saying & expressing ourselves.... beautiful work, lady.

I grew up in Cruces and many of my friends would say bueno at the end of a conversation. If we were ending a phone call they would say bueno instead of good bye. Still makes me smile.
Mexican Americans in general say all of this. It's not exclusive to New Mexico/Albuquerque.

Some people just have to tell you they're smart since It's not apparent otherwise. Rather than just appreciating something that's funny as hell. Albuquerque was the big city when I was a kid in Durango. Loved this!
You missed "como que" As in, you get a call and it's the wrong number and the person at the other end of the line says "como que the wrong number?"
