- Five Tango and I spent 4 lazy days and 3 nights wandering the north Georgia mountains, going out on the Benton McKaye Trail and using the Appalachian Trail on the return. Here's a taste of what we saw.
Music: "As Good as it Seems" by Luke Boswell, used by permission.

Hey,plz tell Luke I really enjoyed the music.Well done!
Will do. Cheers.
Looks like y’all had a great trip.
It was a good trip. Got to walk through a thunderstorm, improvise hammock suspension and see some pretty mountain views. Saw you on Evan's trail days video - cool.
Could you be a bit more specific on the route? Always looking for loops in GA! Thanks and great video!
Sure. We parked at Amicalola State Park and hiked the approach trail to Springer. From Springer we went north on the AT to the point where the Benton McKaye Trail branches off to the right. We hiked BMT, passing Owen's Overlook about mile 1.3 and crossing a Forest Service road at about 1.7 miles, kept going to about the 2.2 mile point and camped near a creek the first night. Total = about 10 miles
Day two we continued on the BMT, crossing back over the AT just north of Springer. We continued the BMT to Three Forks, where the BMT and AT run together. We continued north on the combined trail, visited Long Creek Falls and then took the BMT about a mile or so farther north, camping near a stream somewhere off trail. Total = about 6 miles.
Day three we turned around and started back south, aiming to end up south of Springer so we'd have a short day Sunday out to the car and have time for the drive home. Instead of retracing our steps on the BMT, we took the AT south from Three Forks, passing by Stover Creek Shelter. We stayed on the AT until it intersected with the BMT. At that point we got back on the BMT and continued south on it until it again crosses the AT. At that intersection we got back on the AT and went south to Springer and then back down the approach trail, ending the day early at Black Gap Shelter, where we stayed the night. Total = about 7 miles
The next morning we just went on down the Approach Trail to Amicalola, got back in the car and drove on home. Hope that helps. The video isn't very informative or detailed, more a quick look. Since the BMT and AT intersect several times between Springer and Three Forks it's possible to do loops of varying sizes there and stay out an afternoon, a day or like we did, several days. We didn't do particularly high mileage, but it's certainly possible to do more (or less) miles than we did depending on how much time you have. Total = about 6 miles
Cheers and thanks for watching.
Three minutes? I hope there's more to come. :-)
Well....not on this BMT trip, but give me a week or two. Five Tango, #hikingfreak and I just walked out of the woods this morning from the Coosa Back Country Trail in North Georgia and I shot a lot more video there. That one should be upcoming soon. Thanks for watching.
Nice little meander. I've done that loop a couple times now, never gets old! Liked the song, it may make an appearance in one of my future videos =) I see you're a no-hiking pole guy. Do you never use them?
It was a nice way to spend time in the mountains, just wandering and enjoying the scenery. You're right about it not getting old. The BMT was new to me, and the rest I have not seen with leaves on the trees, so even the places we had been before looked different.
As to hiking poles, no, I've not yet been bitten by that bug yet, though I have some picked out if I ever decide to try a pair. I'm usually doing other things with my hands while I walk, so I'd have to change up styles a bit if I did go to poles.
And I'm glad you like the music. Luke is an aspiring musician among other things like being a college student and working on the lake. If you're serious about wanting to use his music, PM me over on hammockforums or something and I'll get you his contact info.
