In this video, I have taken inspiration from the cover of "Fine Woodworking Magazine" to create a stunning traditional blanket chest. Built with American hardwoods and classic joinery techniques.
This piece highlights timeless design and craftsmanship. It is more than just a blanket chest - it’s the potential beginning of a cherished family heirloom.

My dad and I built his casket about ten years before he died using this box joint design on the case. We made a much more elegant lid. We made the finger joints with a homemade box jug as the pieces were far to big to stand up on the table saw.
Hi...I am sure it was wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing, Wes

Another great build Wes. Wish you produced the plans for this one. Love the finish you chose.
They are in Fine woodworking magazine
Beautiful! You said that’s cherry wood? Really love the joinery
Thanks for the kind words...I really enjoy working with cherry wood. Wes
Wunderschön 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi...thank you very much, I appreciate the comment! Wes
Would that be considered Green and Green style?
I used to work in a furniture factory and we build antique reproduction blanket boxes with hand cut and chiseled dove tails.
It's nice to make something that should be around in a hundred and fifty years
Hi...I am sure it was very nice. Thank you so much for sharing, Wes
Wes, next time use squeeze clamps---its much faster and still clamps tight enough. Nice video---
nice to see you working in "solid" (hardwood) rick
Hi Rick...I am very familiar with squeeze clamps but they would not have given me the holding power I needed in this project. Thanks for your comment. Wes
Hey Teacher Wes. Could you tell me how you attached the top? Thank you. ✌🏽🙏🏽
Hi...sorry I did not include that. I will do a follow up video next week and include hardware and installation. Stay Tuned. Merry Christmas!!
Very nice! What did you use for the topcoat?
Hi...I used Sherwood pre-cat lacquer from Sherwin Williams. Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas, Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWes thanks Wes. Merry Christmas 🎄
The Sherwood Williams stain you used did you have to have it mixed for you or was it off the shelf ? Not able to locate Library Oak stain. Thank You...
Hi Carl...it was a standard Sherwood wiping stain color. Sherwood stains are available at your Sherwin Williams paint store. Thanks, Wes
thank you . why no glue
Hi...I didn't feel it was necessary with the tight fitting joints and screws. Thanks for watching! Wes
How did you attach the top?
What was the top coat?
Belíssima peça
Uma dica: dubla a fala com inteligência artificial, aqui no Br as pessoas consomem muito esse conteúdo de marcenaria
Thank you for the tip! I really appreciate your kind words. Wes
You're routing in the wrong direction
Hi...not really. I have learned that routing in the opposite direction eliminates the possibility of tear out. I get a much cleaner route. Thanks for watching, Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWesI often do the same with my trim router Wes, but I think his point is valid for larger bits and hi torque situations.
