hello I have a question. When you say put the patients arm in a dependent position do you mean let it hang by the side so blood can flow down or do you mean dependent as in placed stable on the table? I know when we learned insertion we had the patients stabilize the arm on a table. I got a question wrong on my ATI practice and just wanted to follow up.

It will depend entirely on your patient and their exact circumstances, but typically we try to place IVs in a location where the catheter will not be occluded when a patient bends their arm or wrist.
