Fear Factory - Transgression [2024 Re-Work and Re-Mix by Panic Lift]

- I used an stem extractor program to get some stems for Fear Factory's "Transgression" and decided to make new mixes for the songs that add in some electronic elements since that was a huge part of the Fear Factory sound that I love, and it's sorely absent from this album.
While i was doing that, I made some adjustments to some of the other elements of the songs.
I'm a hobbyist producer, and i realize a lot of these changes are my personal preference, but I thought some of you may appreciate it, and this album needs more love!
This is a derivative work, and not for sale. Everything falls under creative commons and I'm not profiting from this at all. This is merely a fan, reimagining some songs that I feel could have used a little more time and attention.

Dunno why so many people hate on the Transgression album, i like it actually!.
I would love to see the full album done like this! While the fundamentals of Transgression are strong, the execution ruins the ideas.
Thank you, and I may try a few more. yes, i agree. I was hesitant to do this, because I didn't want to come off like i Dislike the record, It's just that i do see the potential of some great songs that just needed a little more time to mature.

@nck9755 yeah I gutted ever part that repeated more than once. Felt like it felt less copy and pasted. But I do realize short songs are kinda of more my personal preference! So my bad! Lol

I agree, its a minute shorter than the original and it feels like it has ended too soon. I could say the same for the Supernova remix as well.

@Maggai got a nice bump from dino's quote so that is much appreciated. Thought I'd just share my 2cents. I did try to fix the guitars, I layered impact soundwork's shreddage in thier going through dino's distupter effect processor but it was almost too precise, so I worked the original guitars back in.

@@PanicLift dude there's some awesome stuff on there. I'm really enjoying this, but it's my birthday today and I thought I'd cheekily ask if you'd consider doing your magic on the track My Grave. It didn't make the core album but fuck me was it the best on there. Can't help a bit of shameless guilt tripping but I've enjoyed this so much I'd love to see what you can do with my grave.

Interesting even though I like the steely sound of the original.
Sounds pretty neat this Remix of yours and very good.
I think the original album production sounds pretty good and solid, may be not perfect, but still sounds like a real Fear Factory record. The only bads from this album are the bad desicions and choices at how to do it inside the musical writing process, specially if it were rushed so bad because of the Record Label.
I think there are some great ideas, that were unfortunately rushed!

Great work, but in my opinion the lead synths are WAY too loud and harsh, I'd lowpass them and tuck them back a bit so that they offer more atmosphere and texture rather than forward presence, as I find them quite distracting. However, the way you incorporated more industrial elements, brought clarity to the mix and brought the vocals to a clear level with the harmonies is absolutely wonderful.
thank you so much for the kind words! I think I was aiming for an over-driven synth string similar to the intro to 'demanufacture' but I think I went an octave higher than I should have. I think that lead to the harshness on the high end. thanks for your feedback and in my next pass on the mixdown I'll certainly address it. I hope to do a few more than post them in a playlist and when i do, I'll be sure its an adjusted version. thanks!

thank you so much. I think i got too excited getting the synth sounds back into the mix. they seemed to washed away on this album i probably over compensated! I will make sure to lower them slightly in the next version

This is very cool. Sounds like it has more punch. It's a little different from what I'm attempting here, but more ears on this album the better!
For stems, it's probably best I work with the less compressed original, but his version is great to listen to!
@@PanicLift how can you get the stems, are you using a program/AI for that?
Yes, im using an AI website, it gets the basic stuff but a lot i have to recreate to be able to mix correctly. It would be a lot easier if i had the real stems, but i think thats impossible!
Pretty cool. Though the production overall still sounds muffled and cloudy compared to a modern FF mix. Drums are also kinda boxy and flat. Need the low mids to be carved in the guitars to let the drums punch through there. FF kiks need to punch you in the mouth. The drums overall feel too flat and thin. Vocals a bit too loud and disconnected from the music. But overall it's a cool vision.
Definitely would have been easier to do with the actual stems and dry tracks. So I get it. When I do the final download I'll take your suggests in mind when prepping the final mix! Thanks! I'm hobbyist, so this is always good practice!
