You did good with that little 2-stroke engine! You were right to call it, no need to push safety or personal comfort. I did something similar years ago in my 172, it was a 100 degree day here - really hot for here, and I just did the continual circle above my airport at the time, I made it to 10,200 ft and she just stopped climbing. I don't recall how long it took but I'm sure it was a while. It was nice and cool up there...hehehe. Oh, are you aware you won't get all of the traffic if you don't have ADS-B OUT as well? I forget the details behind it, the stratus being only ADS-B IN will show some traffic, so it's better than nothing, but it's not everything. In your area it's probably not a big deal.
You'd only let me down if you didn't practice good ADM, and in this situation, I think you made a great decision and showed us what is safe. Thank you. :)
@seangfoster1974 safety is #1 I never put the video in front of safety. The day I do that I would stop the videos. But I am gonna drop something from my plane soon lol safely and legally so stick around 😆
Questions: Is the engine a 503? What's the Vy at takeoff. My quicksilver climbs at 450fpm at 45mph from 5300 DA, CHT 300-320, EGT 1100-1150. That's on a 503. Helps to ensure the carb jetting is adjusted to the field elevation. Great video, thanks. Follow your excitement. Flywayhi
@alkempton1512 thanks Al yes I had my hands full! Thank you for watching the video all the way through 😆 I figured Noone would even see it!! Appreciate your continued support 🙏
When I climbed to 5500 feet, I did it in stages. If you flying east to west, required to be a even altitudes plus 500, west to east, odd altitudes plus 500. So Would take it up to 3500, easy, level off, give the engine a minute or two break, then back to high throttle for another 1000 feet, level off just long enough to give the engine a break, then to 5500. If I give a go at 10000, will do it that way.
@kentwilkens3435 when you're climbing to an altitude of choice you don't have to change headings you can go direct but yes it's definitely smart to pay close attention! I was very very aware of my surroundings visually and digitally! Thanks for watching!
@@TheJonjonj Fabulous video. You have a 503? Did amazing getting it that high. I have a 582 so think it should make it to 10000. Might do it in the next day or two, calm airs, plus have not put on the floats yet, so chances of pulling it off are far higher without the airbags strapped to the bottom. Maybe not top off the next time, but another three or four gallons would not hurt, say 3/4 full. How do you integrate the aircraft radio audio with the video? Again, great video and presentation. A raging success!
Don’t know if others notice that your on plane audio only comes out on listener’s left channel… right channel audio is barely there… is that just from your feed from the headset mic? Great flights and videos
@keithpearson1552 that's odd I wonder why that is? Is it possible it's from my go pros? I do all my editing on android devices so I don't recall seeing an option for it. Thank you for pointing it out!
What’s your conclusion on why you were getting so much feedback on the stick? Did you check your elevator and trim linkage? I’m 60, taking Sport Pilot lessons now, and hope to be licensed soon. I can’t wait to get my own plane in the air 👍😎
@Tom_in_CA yes I inspected everything appears good at this point in contributing it to the reported 16knot winds at 9k and the density of the air! As soon as I lost altitude it was fine! Thank you for watching and enjoy the training it's important!
That was very interesting, John/Juan... 🙂. I watched the whole thing. What did you mean by ' I lost the stratos ' at about 20 in. And, you let no one down! 9600' gave me the heebee jeebees and I thought it was amazing. I thought you were so smart to listen to your need to be cautious and abort when the plane was giving you feedback that made you concerned. You're not Tom Cruise in Top Gun 2 trying to get to Mach 10.... Well done. I liked and subscribed! I'm in Fort Worth...my daughter lives in Canton. If you ever do a CFI and offer instructions, I'm really trying hard to find a place to learn. I have the money for a plane and instructions... I just can't find anyone to help me prove I don't have aero phobia. I don't think I do, but I should verify.... I'm heavily into MSFS 2020 flight sim and tried the 10k in a 103... pretty fun, but I kept struggling with a stall at about 9k over mountains in Boseman Montana... So, you doing this for real, was extremely cool. I'd like an ultralight for sight seeing, and I loved your camping idea!!!! Holy cow, would that be cool to have a bunch of guys to fly with and camp in planned locations... I'd love that! Anyway, cudos for a very interesting video... I think you're wise to avoid the 'Get There itis' dangers.... SMART!

@@effectspedals oh the stratus is in a mount the sticks to the the windscreen near my left knee and it fell twice so I left it below me so I didn't take my focus off the flight! The vsi was still accurate
I wonder If adding some fairings would reduce the drag and give you that little bit of extra climb performance. Also curious if you figured out what caused the stick feedback/fluttering.
Hey Jon great video. Do you think a 582 would have made a big difference and do you know why no one runs CV or constant velocity carbs on their Rotax engines to automatically compensate for altitude changes. Anyway great job keep em coming.
@Marshal601 honestly I've been wondering that myself and have to think that a 582 probably would have done it quicker for sure but would it have the same results like stick movement that basically is what really caused me to stop? So I can't definitively answer that. It's a good question, maybe a rotax person will chime in. Hopefully that person can answer both questions lol.. we need Rotax Rick!
@@TheJonjonj Could you have been riding the edge of a stall causing the stick shake due to the density at altitude? The airspeed indicated on the tablet is it gps or from the pito tube if it was gps and in the low 40mph range your true airspeed may have been quite low if Im thinking this through right your indicated airspeed from your pito source indicating lets say 40 mph your gps should have been quute a bit higher. I think as an armchair quaterback you may have been at your service ceiling for that day. Thanks for the great videos.
@@Marshal601 ASI airspeed stall does not change with altitude, as it is a direct measure of air going in the tube, so no matter the altitude, your indicated stall on the ASI should remain the same. (assuming you keep a proper attitude)
@@kentwilkens3435 right. I was wondering about the speed indicated on his tablet, if it is gps sourced it should be higher than indicated on his pito driven asi which leads me to think he was going pretty slow if the gps showed 40mph at 9k ft with a healthy density altitude.
