I think they write some of the jokes for each other which is why. It probably was Michaels joke. And they try to give each other the most absurd jokes.

To be fair saying “Goodnight” is the same as saying “Good morning”. It’s just at a different time of day. The only confusion is because since it’s the last one you would say, people take it as meaning “goodbye”.
But much like “Aloha”, it can mean either hello or goodbye.
Are you a native English speaker? In most dialects (American, at least), "Good evening" means hello and "Goodnight" means goodbye. I have no idea why, just one of those things. Logically it ought to be as you say, but conventionally it just isn't.
Weekend Update is my favorite part of SNL
It's the only stong point you can count on. I think it's the group effort of all the writers to hit home runs as reliably as possible

With the new cast overhaul, Lorne insisted that Che and Jost remain on Weekend Update as it's one of the strongest segments each week while other sketches could be touch and go.
Jokes aside, Fetterman was really brave to go on stage and debate Oz. Regardless of his recent difficulties with talking, mentally, he is still strong, and he is far more intelligent, empathetic, and moral than Oz.
What would be really brave is focusing on his health and see if he can completely recover before trying to serve millions of other people. Strokes and recovery are very tricky, and different for everyone. Often 3-6 months after a stroke you’ve reached max recovery as well.

They tried this already, about 10 or 15 years ago. Didn’t really work. The best things in life are served in appropriate sizes; bigger doesn’t mean better.
Seems like they tried during the Reagan administration, too. One of the first episodes insulted the president. The show was canceled by the next episode
They could if they do away with the 2nd musical performance of the night. I don't watch the musical shit anyway but one & done would be way better.

It’s incredibly difficult to write sharp topical jokes that will be relevant and funny for a live broadcast on a Saturday night, week after week. Certain aspects of the show’s format - including the double musical performances - exist to help fill time.
They'll bring it back in 2024 (which is an election year in the US). I'm hoping they do.
Nougats in Pretzels had me crying
Everyone from the Caribbean is confused by the “goodnight” outrage. Goodnight is what we say every time we greet someone at night! I really can’t understand how good morning is ok. But goodnight is incorrect. Americans are crazy.
Whether the rest of the episode is bad or not, you can always count on Weekend Update.
Goodwill's denouncement is in anticipation of getting all that unsold stock. They were about to be inundated with it.

I met Fetterman when I was selling gyros in Braddock at a fair and a drunk driver crashed and the entire police force showed up and the man came down just to see what was happening. Fetterman is a real one. Oz is all smoke and mirrors.

Computer programs everywhere have been trying to eliminate apostrophes from people’s names. Whether it’s my bank, a school, marathon registration, hotel reservations, etc, there’s always a problem with my name. I was just at the OCR World Championships last month and they couldn’t find my name in their registration because of the apostrophe in my last name. Their system had it spelled as “Mr. O??Connor” 🙄

@@anneb889 B/C he could've done what a lot of GOPers are doing and refused to debate. He could've used his stroke as an excuse to NOT debate, instead, knowing that he's at a weakened state, he went up there and responded to every challenge. And to the critics, I don't get the critiques. He countered every point, avoided a couple of questions like any politician does (which sucks but it's par for the course), and remembered all of his canned lines. Not sure how any of that is bad.
I think this is because his policies are transformative and are offering necessary change to broken parts of the system, and news commentators don't want that.
