"We have four good engines, tank full of gas. Half a pack of cigarettes and we're wearing sunglasses."
    "Hit it!"

I maintained a DC-3 out of Fairbanks thru out the 90's, with good pilots and good maintenance she was pretty reliable, put some ham fisted aviator in the left seat and you're changing cylinders every week. Last I read, Precision Engines were building new cylinders for the R2800 CB-16 for the DC-6, which is badly needed, but thats the only major new component thats being build for these old radial engines that I know of.

Hi, Thanks for the comment. I always fear that the lovers of the Horrible Greta van Thunberg will put us out of action before we run out of spare parts... Friends at Everts say they have no real parts worries but they see the political agenda as the main worry...

@@BetterAircraftFabric I still have several friends that work for Everts, Cliff and Rob have definitely helped secure their future by buying up every warehouse full of DC -6 parts they could find. In fact I was a flight engineer for a little while on one DC-6 for NAC, until it was timed out, N7780B, the one previously owned by Howard Hughes, but, somehow, Cliff got it going again. I had about 400 hours in the center seat and never lost a cylinder. The DC-6 always impressed me, no matter what the mission was, the 6 could handle it

Gorgeous sounds of the exhausts on those radials!

Yeah they are wonderful and right now the Palmer-city-Airport Manager is trying to push the bit transports off the airport, because "he wants more helicopters!" - sickening.

Hi marc! Roger Brooks sold several DC-4's and they are now happily flying with the new owner out of Palmer. Btw.: Stupid U-Tube classified your comment as spam and I cant get to to stay visible...

Very nice. The hero of Berlin, and one of my favs. The MATS C-54 was here in Rome Ga. last yr for an airshow static, but It was delayed on takeoff, so I missed it. I would love to hang there with my cameras for a few days in a busy period. Love the C-119s and C-47s in the background. Aviation equivalent of erotica.

Yeah really really sad affairs... Looks like they declared an emergency, turned 180 back to Fairbanks and then crashed approaching the river...

Was that plane with a fire fighting service and visited the North Carolina Forest Service in Kinston NC in the 90's? In a previous life, I was a crew chief on a North Carolina Forest Service C-47(known as plane 10 the DC3) and I believe the plane in the video was under contract there for the spring fire season in the mid ,90's or Early 2000's.

Hi, I believe that is likely; at that time it would have been operated by Matt J. Ziomek from Kingman, Arizona. Either as Aero Flite Inc, or ARDco, Inc.

@@BetterAircraftFabric kewl beans. I can not remember if I ever got a picture of the one that stopped in with us, but I remember the globe on the side and the red stripe. We joked around about how all the other planes that came in always had a really nice clean paint job but my plane looked like something found on a abandoned ww2 jungle airstrip. Lol about the same time I had to do some touch up to the plane 10's fabric surfaces, and got a fire call so we took off. While flying over towards stumpy point NC, one of the SEAT pilots, Jim Rouse, who was a ww2 buff, flew up from behind and called us on the radio and said we looked like we were returning from an air battle with all those silver repair spots all over the elevator, rudder and ailerons. After we got on the ground and got the SEATs loaded, I went back to painting and touching up plane 10.

it was Aero Flite Inc, not ARDco, Inc. - They had another C54 that wound up with Roger Brooks.

@@BetterAircraftFabric kewl. It would be interesting if it was the same plane. Nice to know there are others that enjoy these planes as much as I do.

Is Brooks active again? Love the vid!

    • @BetterAircraftFabric
      @BetterAircraftFabric  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Its not Brooks but the two planes are former Brooks Air Fuel planes out of Fairbanks. Chris Houchin bought them and flies 'em.

полетайка пожалуйста, дуглас - летайка? ёщё скажите ,,електра не летайка,, Дуглас ням ням.

Igor Mikhailov: The two DC4/C54 are still flying fuel haul all over Alaska every day. One is being maintained, the other one flies, from time to time they swap. Yeah the Lockheed Electra just whines, does not sound good at all.
