I have a smaller Chanel bag in lambskin with gold HW, and a bigger Chanel bag in caviar leather and silver HW. Both in black :) I have NEVER used the lambskin bag for daytime/work, but I have used the caviar one daily and in more special occasions. My guess is that both HW colour and material plays parts in that, personally I tend to go for silver for everyday use and caviar is definitely more durable in my opinion. My lambskin bag is my little baby though :)

Oh well, I'm looking at $14,000 in handbags! I opted to buy an "inspired Chanel" lambskin (not a replica, but an inspired -- without a logo of course), so I won't be crushed when it shows signs of wear. If I had spent $7,000+ (with sales tax), I'd have to select the cavier for durability. I agree with liking the look of lambskin when it is new.
The caviar looks really weird and grey in your lighting. In real life it really does look a lot better and glossier. For the jumbo size I would definitely say caviar. Lamb is if you want to let it sit in the box or up on your shelf. Especially if you are paying so much, you don't want a scratched up bag ṭhat you always have to baby
I bought the Caviar GST tote just a few months ago and I am way more casual with that bag. Sure the lambskin is pretty but Chanel is Chanel no matter what. The single scratch on my other lambskin gives me heartache everytime I wear it, so as for the price, I'm team Calfskin/Cavier all day.

Especially now we’re in 2021... the prices are crazy and I don’t want to pay over 6k for a plastic hard looking bag! I got a classic flap in cavier and I have no complaints about ruining it because it hasn't has any scratches but I have to say I take care all my luxury bags. I have been thinking of getting a lambskin woc. After watching reviews I decided on a lambskin for 3 reasons. 1. Since I already have a cavier I want to have a lambskin. 4. Woc is small enough that I don't worry not being to protect it. 3. I take care all my bags. 4. Lambskin looks more luxurious and timeless. Thought I should have at least 1 lambskin. On my next one after a WOC will most likely get a cavier.
I just love the look of the lambskin. This is an expensive bag, I want it to look luxe. Sure the caviar is more durable, but if I am running errands, I'd probably grab my NF. My CF is for lunch with ladies, afternoon tea, or a date night.

I am team Caviar all the way! But on the classic flap, I think lambskin looks much better. I was lucky enough to score a soft caviar on my flap bag so it was not as grained as normal and I love it! It's like a hybrid child of lambskin and caviar.

I intially bought a WOC in caviar after watching millions of videos however I was still lusting for the lambskin. Yes the caviar is durable but just looks dull and dry, well in my opinion. So I sold it and saved up for a year and bought this new baby 2days ago and am loving it. I won't lie it does scratch but mainly on the flap but you know what, I love it. Something weird happened in this video for me, the video lagged a couple of seconds behind the sound. Anyway I followed my heart a few years ago and got a beautiful lambskin jumbo in brown. Fast forward 3 years and I've only worn it maybe 3 times since it stressed me out so much to wear. The price is quite reasonable and it has more space than medium large classic flap . It has same quilted lamb skin and the model is like a envelope one. Its a pretty handbag . Hi Mel, thank you for doing this. It's an eye opener. Great video! I am actually for team caviar but I do have calfskin as well. But you know what I think I will try the lamb skin next time. Just an FYI, the caviar if you think it's too worn out, you can bring it back to Chanel and they can fix it. I had them work on my tote that was scuffed at the corners and now it looks really good. It didn't seem it got scuffed at all. They weren't able to fix the creasing though. And yes the lamb skin looks much nicer than the caviar. Oh quick question, what do you think would wear better in terms of structure through the years? Thank you again.
So if I want a classic card holder should I go with caviar or lambskin. I would be using it daily as a wallet. So all the time which would you prefer. I have little kids too. I’m torn my husband says get lambskin it looks rich caviar looks fake.
I think the lambskin these days (especially on the classic flap jumbo bags) feels like it has a plastic coating on it. I suppose this makes it more durable but it totally takes away from the luxury feel. The medium classic flap bags seem much softer. I think this is such a shame. The vintage look calf skin seems to be a good option these days, as it is softer than caviar and tougher than lambskin.

I just love the look of the lambskin. This is an expensive bag, I want it to look luxe. Sure the caviar is more durable, but if I am running errands, I'd probably grab my NF. My CF is for lunch with ladies, afternoon tea, or a date night.

Thank you so much for this video, I finally got a jumbo in the lambskin with gold hardware. Initially got the caviar calf skin but didn't love it that much and had to do an exchange for the lambskin. I agree with your points.
I have both & I have them for long they less for ever my lambskin used mostly for dinners & when I go Paris but still look great for 5 years and caviar i used most of time
Exactly as you've described - I find caviar practical but my heart tells me lambskin. But based on my lifestyle, I should go for caviar since it is more 'versatile' since you can dress up or down with it. :/ Decisions, decisions...

I have a Lambskin Trendy CC 19 in Vert (basically a Tiffany blue)...I knew nothing about the difference of lambskin and caviar when I made the purchase. I do like the look of the lambskin, but for my next one, I think I will try caviar so I can compare. This video was very helpful

Choose caviar for durability and for peace of mind, i buy a trendy cc lambskim before and used it 5x only and i see many scratches and creases even i take care of it😞 and ps. If u are new to buy your chanel bag choose the classic collection

I am team Caviar all the way! But on the classic flap, I think lambskin looks much better. I was lucky enough to score a soft caviar on my flap bag so it was not as grained as normal and I love it! It's like a hybrid child of lambskin and caviar.

My vintage flap is lamb with gold hardware. My WOC is silver in caviar. I really feel that lamb is dressier. I love them both but I'll reach for my WOC and use it as a daily grab and go. Your videos are great and very informative. Thanks for sharing.

Scratches come on different sources. and I do not like scratches on my bag. I prefer calf skin!

I bought a lambskin bag recently. Some of the pieces looked and felt almost plastic coated. I chose carefully the softer smoother bag.

Lovely comparison video. I own both types too, I've got three caviar (black mini square, black M/L, classic clutch) and 2 lambskin (beige M/L and red boy WOC). You're right when you say you can never stop at one...my husband has me on a ban right now!

OMG I now own a brand new Chanel Classic Medium Flap in lambskin. Thanks to your very informative review, you and Super Dacob changed my mind. I intially bought a WOC in caviar after watching millions of videos however I was still lusting for the lambskin. Yes the caviar is durable but just looks dull and dry, well in my opinion. So I sold it and saved up for a year and bought this new baby 2days ago and am loving it. I won't lie it does scratch but mainly on the flap but you know what, I love it. This video was one of the best. Keep them coming... xxxx

hi, sorry in advance for my english. I'm going to buy my second Chanel now and I want one jumbo and have found two. one is a black caviar from 2011, the other is a black lamb from 2021. I already own a maxi in caviar and am very happy. these are not bags I use every day so they will stand upright a lot on my shelves. I HATE sagging on the bags, and am terrified that the sides of the bag will start to sag. how to avoid it and which skin is the smartest to go for to avoid sagging? has bought organizer from samorga. Something weird happened in this video for me, the video lagged a couple of seconds behind the sound.
Anyway I followed my heart a few years ago and got a beautiful lambskin jumbo in brown. Fast forward 3 years and I've only worn it maybe 3 times since it stressed me out so much to wear. I've sold it a couple of months ago and now looking for a preloved caviar one since I know I'll get a lot more wear out of it.

Hi Mel .... I have reserved a hand bag in Chanel boutique in Beige colour lamb skin , until 23rd September the new collection comes in. The bag is from their pre autumn winter collection. The price is quite reasonable and it has more space than medium large classic flap . It has same quilted lamb skin and the model is like a envelope one. Its a pretty handbag . What do you think about the beige colour !! they said that beige colour doesnot come often .

Hi Mel, thank you for doing this. It's an eye opener. Great video! I am actually for team caviar but I do have calfskin as well. But you know what I think I will try the lamb skin next time. Just an FYI, the caviar if you think it's too worn out, you can bring it back to Chanel and they can fix it. I had them work on my tote that was scuffed at the corners and now it looks really good. It didn't seem it got scuffed at all. They weren't able to fix the creasing though. And yes the lamb skin looks much nicer than the caviar. Oh quick question, what do you think would wear better in terms of structure through the years? Thank you again.
So if I want a classic card holder should I go with caviar or lambskin. I would be using it daily as a wallet. So all the time which would you prefer. I have little kids too. I’m torn my husband says get lambskin it looks rich caviar looks fake.

I think the lambskin these days (especially on the classic flap jumbo bags) feels like it has a plastic coating on it. I suppose this makes it more durable but it totally takes away from the luxury feel. The medium classic flap bags seem much softer. I think this is such a shame. The vintage look calf skin seems to be a good option these days, as it is softer than caviar and tougher than lambskin.
Definitely lambskin for me. Do you have any recommendations of where to purchase a vintage Classic flap with the old 24ct gold hardware pre 2008?

Hi, I love the look of the lambskin but I’m afraid tht this one might loose it’s puffiness more quickly than the caviar . Most of the old lambskin jumbos have dents like thumb prints on them but I have yet to see an old caviar with them . Whts ur take on tht ?
