  • In this video I talk about forming your own long-term flock plan. Given proper support, chickens can be very long lived animals. It is important to have a plan for their aging years.
*Correction 2:54 This video is not intended to provide ANY legal guidance whatsoever regarding the sale of home raised meat or products for profit. If you want to raise and sell chickens for meat or profit, I refer you to work of the channel Just A Few Acres Farm and the work of Joel Salatin. I do not have the information regarding the legal regulations of this kind of practice in your area. There are ways to create revenue as a homesteader but that is not the focus of this channel. Our flock is for family use and enjoyment only. Please do your own and additional research if this is your goal.

A really lovely and considerate way to introduce the idea of planning ahead for old age. We need to do this for ourselves too! I'm just planning new roosts. Think I plan to include a low one after watching this as 2 of my oldest girls are 4 years old now. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind words. Many people are surprised to find out with proper care chickens can be long lived animals. This was new to me too when I became a backyard chicken owner. I have included some lower perches and roosts for aging hens too. Thanks for being here on the channel!
