Thank you! You’ve answered my questions about adding a rooster to my (future) flock. Im still in the research phase, but appreciate your comments on identifying and reducing stressors that contribute to behavioral outcomes. Your roosters are beautiful! Thanks again.

I'm very glad you found the video helpful. Given the right kinds of support, a rooster can make an amazing addition to your flock. I can't imagine our flock without our roosters. I truly treasure and appreciate what they bring to our homestead. Best of luck with your research!

Space is so important they have it, to feel he and his flock are safe was also important to me (city person taking care of them)..... so many other nice advices from you............I cried with your interaction with the Roosters, they can feel the respect you have for them.

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind words. The rooster episode took me several days to film and edit and while I pour my heart into all of my content, that episode is the one closest to my heart. I was crying as I was recording the audio because I am extremely humbled by how wrong I was about roosters prior to owning, working with, and training them. I hope by sharing my mistakes and my experiences I can demonstrate to others how misunderstood these animals are and that they are deserving of our respect and love. If their natural behaviors and needs are honored, they can and do make amazing additions to your flock. Thank you for your comment and for sharing your flock story.

I'm very glad you found the video helpful. I was so very wrong about roosters prior to owning them myself and I have learned so much on my journey owning, training, and working with them on our homestead. Given what they need to succeed and circumstances where they can express their natural behaviors, a rooster can be an amazing addition to your flock. Informed owners are able to provide better quality of care for their animals. Thank you for watching and engaging with my channel.

Thank you great video! I have 6 silver laced Wyandotte, I’ve raised as chicks. I have their nesting boxes covered so they can’t sleep in them. I read they start laying about 24-28 weeks old. When would you suggest I open up the nesting boxes so they can get use to them? My pullets are 13 weeks old. First time for having chickens. Thank you!

Silver laced Wyandotte chickens will begin to lay between 6-8 months old, which is a little later than some breeds, but they are steady winter layers as well. Your chickens if their basic needs are met will lay throughout the winter but their production will slow down somewhat compared to the warmer summer months. Providing them with healthy nutrition, water, and a safe environment will support their productivity. They will also be beautiful chickens. Welcome to the backyard chicken journey!

@@ChuckTheRooster could you recommend at what month I should allow them assess to roosting boxes?

@@Crusher14 I'm happy to give a recommendation but I want you to know I believe in you as a new chicken owner and ultimately you know your flock best. Keep up your research journey. The more you know, the better care you can provide for them and better care equates to better productivity. I would begin to open the boxes during the day between 4-5 months old and close the boxes at night before they roost. You can place a faux egg or a golf ball inside the new nesting boxes which will let your chickens know it is a safe place to lay their eggs. I would continue to close the boxes at night when they won't be laying eggs so they aren't tempted to sleep in them. Before they begin to lay you may notice your girls testing out the boxes during the day, this is a good sign! Before my girls were laying their first eggs they would climb into the boxes during the day to practice. Every flock will begin to lay eggs at a different time due to many factors. Don't worry, keep providing your flock with great nutrition, plenty of water, and a safe environment and the eggs will come. Receiving your first eggs from your flock is a magical moment. It won't be long! Good luck and good energy to you and your flock.
