- This category has you not only obtain the best ending for Dead Rising 3 but also requires the runner to also kill every other optional boss in the game. The only boss we do not kill is Gary since he's mandatory to keep alive for the best ending.
Pretty fun category and a neat reason to run on Nightmare since it saves 1 hour. -- Watch live at / ecdycis
I feel like every game in the Dead Rising series has something special to it. I won't disagree that DR3 has some gameplay issues but it feels like it has the best "mowing down zombies" appeal.
Dead Rising 3 is easily one of the most surprising games for me in 2021. I enjoy this one way more than I thought I would
@@Ecdycis I played it the first time in 2021 as well. It's far from perfect, but I definitely feel like it's worthy to stand among Dead Rising 2 (+ OtR) and the original.
For clarification, I don't think Dead Rising 4 is absolutely-definitely-positively the worst game ever, but it feels too divorced from the mechanics of prior games to really feel like it's fair to compare.
Game is definitely "Dynasty Warriors Zombies", which isn't to knock it. I had a great time mowing down dudes
Basically all of 4's divergence from staple mechanics started with this entry though.
Not to mention worse side content, lamer bosses overall, a worse written story that butchers previous entries stories and a lot of forced humor, ugly art style, really annoying characters, feeling like a completely different series, way too much emphasis put on killing zombies over anything else, an absurd push for increasingly ridiculous combo weapons, over complicating the leveling system. I could honestly keep going on and on but seriously, if we can all agree 4 is bad then we should acknowledge that 3 was just as much of a step down from the previous entry OTR. The series went on a gradual decline getting worse and worse losing more of it's identity. Not to mention a 10 year time skip and completely throwing away what Case West set up was just plain stupid, on top of bringing the orphan plot back and completely changing it creating a ton of inconsistencies using baffling logic.

Darlene (the gluttony boss) is originally from Willamette, Colorado (where Dead Rising 1 took place). This is confirmed in Dead Rising 4 through newspaper clippings. Apparently she left Willamette some time before the outbreak though.

The game is a bit of a mixed bag. Cheesy writing, repetitive combat and somewhat a clunky / iffy engine could ruin the fun for many people.
If you're not the most demanding or critical player, the game offers a fairly big and "open-world" map to explore, with many different weapons to find or craft and many impressive options for annihilating hordes of zombies. That the story and characters are rather trashy provides its own type of B-movie entertainment.
In short, there's some fun to have.

You should try a New Game Nightmare 100% Clear speedrun. I did one last year, completing every scoop, collectible, combo weapon and score attack gold medal (thing) on the map, and finished with only 7 in-game hours left to spare. There's absolutely no downtime and not a lot of wiggle room, but it's one hell of a marathon.
My next step is all survivors, admittedly NG 100% sounds ROUGH

It's in a weird state of comparison. I think Dead Rising 3 is a solid entry with some design flaws but overall a pretty solid experience. People hate on it because it's not 1 or 2

You can't tell me with a straight face 2/OTR jumped the shark when DR3's diego fight is some of the most unhinged wacky stupid shit I've ever seen.
The most anything related to 2 gets to jumping the shark imo is the Mech Boss in OTR and even then while conceptually it's a silly idea the fight itself is pretty standard, and imo it's justified by being a Phenotrans weapon. Plus OTR in general is just having more fun with the "non-canon" premise.
3 likes to act like it's a gritty game and judging by the style and writing I'd assume would be darker and intense but instead features some of the absolute dumbest enemies imaginable along with pumping the combo weapon mechanics full of steroids.

How do you start a new game? I can only play on NG+ because I can't figure it out
You have to delete your save file. It's a pain but it's an in game setting
I'm not sure how consistent this is or if it was because I was level 50, but on the Jherri fight I threw 2 small dumbbells in the boss arena at her and she died. I did this on both story mode and Nightmare. I tried taking a dumbbell to another fight to see if it did the same amount of damage, but it didn't.
I'll have to try that out next time I take a swing at DR3
@@Ecdycis: So this is something I can actually provide some knowledge on, for some reason or another, at Level 50 (possibly lower, not sure on that one), you can actually one-hit Jherri with a dumbbell or yoga block, or at least get incredibly close to it, you do have to be somewhat precise with the hit though

Usually for me the game struggles to not look like a grey blurry mess with it's unloaded textures. Especially on original hardware.
Plus the filter/colour palette is very ugly. A lot of factors go into appealing visuals.

They basically are. It's just those that are snooty about what they are doing that try to separate them out. Usually trying to elevate one or the other to some loftier status. BBQ is based on what you cook the food on/in and not some special distinct style and really top tier bbq doesn't use just one style.
