Yeelight DESTROYS Philips Hue in 3 Scientific Tests

  • PROOF that Yeelight smart home bulbs have a higher CRI value, a higher lumen value and a faster flicker rate for less money than Philips Hue. The majority of Yeelight's range works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Nest, but today I am testing out their latest Google exclusive bulb; the upcoming Yeelight M2.
    The Yeelight M2 works exclusively with Google Nest as it makes use of the Google's Seamless setup, and is a bluetooth bulb rather than a Wifi bulb, Bluetooth smart home bulbs are quicker to react, and don't need a hub. The Yeelight M2 also has the advantage that it isn't clogging up your Wifi network. Yeelight versus Philips Hue ? No contest.
    This video is sponsored by Yeelight, all opinions are my own.
    Until Yeelight release an equivalent smart bulb for Alexa the M2 will only suit Google Nest owners, the M2 will be released any day now BUT Yeelight also do bulbs that work with Alexa and Google Nest right now. The M2 will be released soon, all other products discussed in today's video are linked below:

    Such an amazing video - and thanks for talking about the quality of light! Most comparisons just look at the light fixture design, app features or smart home platform compatibility. While all these things matter, of course, what makes Yeelight so great is the light itself. Unfortunately, many people underestimate how important high quality lighting is for our health - especially considering that most of us are exposed to artificial light for most of the day. The right lighting can prevent us from having headaches, insomnia, poor concentration, etc.

    I may be mistaken but I believe the flicker on the Hue bulb when recording is caused due to the speed relative to your cameras shutter speed.

    • @Tarets
      @Tarets ปีที่แล้ว

      Shutter speed changes as the auto exposure of your camera increases or decreases. That's why you see him getting the phone closer and further from the light source and yet there is no flickering on Yeelight.

    First things first: I love the range and design of Yeelight products. However, the WiFi connection of the Yeelight products I have tested is quite unstable. Every now and then they drop off the network and can only be reconnected by physically taking them off the power - they won't ever reconnect by themselves. This happens randomly, and - in addition - quite regularly when the router(s) reboot. My dimmable white bulb (which looks almost exactly like the one you review here) actually messed up my smart home setup. In irregular intervals, my other WiFi-connected devices became sluggish like hell. Most obvious was the effect on my Alexa Echo devices. It took me quite a while to find the culprit - but finally I found it: the Yeelight bulb! Now, since I unscrewed it and tossed it in my "smarthome graveyard" chest, everything is running just fine. While I loved the bulb for its brightness and general quality, I just cannot afford its negative effects on the rest of my network.

    Cannot recommend Yeelight, precisely for the mentioned dimming issue: if you rely on sunset or sunrise functions, forget it. The 0-100% brightness range is *realistically* 50-100% and there’s an admission by the company that _this is quite deliberate_ because the colour saturation of their LEDs don’t work to their satisfaction at lower brightnesses.
    Take a trip to the Yeelight web forums, before buying, is what I’d strongly suggest. You’ll find thousands griping at this and at how the company is totally unresponsive to feedback.
    Where the bulb beats all competition hands down, however, is temperature range. 1700-6500K in the case of my bulb. You simply will not find a colour LED smartbulb on the market, anywhere, also capable of being reduced to that low level of White warmth. Believe me, I’ve looked.

    • @claudiaadams8650
      @claudiaadams8650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may want to check out the Lifx Mini Color bulbs; the temp range is 1500k - 9000k. They are a little pricey, though, and I wouldn't recommend their A19 Color right now because they're having problems staying connected to the app. The minis are my favorite of their bulbs so far.

    About half my house is Yeelight color 2 bulbs and the other half is Hue color bulbs. Had both over 18 months and the Yeelights are far superior in every way except one major issue, connection drops. I've tried every router from Nest, to Eero, Linksys and even Unifi and all had constant dropped connections with the Yeelights. And don't even get me started on the drops between Yeelight and SmartThings. Maybe the new bulbs are better. And yes, I have 9 Google homes and they are TRASH! How it keeps getting worse is mind blowing.

The problem initially made it turn back on after about 10 minutes but eventually it would turn back on almost instantly after turning it off. I tried resetting them multiple times with no resolution. Only issue I've had with yeelight was that I have a lamp that had LAN control before, which I needed for Homey. After an update, they pulled that feature. I had to setup the light again, to do that, I had to downgrade the app. Through a workaround it's possible for Android, but good look with iOS.

    i do have the yeelight but just like a lot of people having trouble connecting to it. on the philip hue it connects just fine.

    I'm sure the flicker issue is more complicated than that. You'd see flicker when the rate matches a multiple of your camera's rate, but not when it doesn't. Suppose your camera is scanning at 60Hz - then refresh rate of 120 will have artifacts, but rate of 50 won't. But the rate itself is not the full story anyway, because the speed of cooldown makes a big difference. Incandescent bulbs take a much longer time to stop glowing than LEDs, so at 60Hz the amplitude change is not nearly as perceptible. With an LED, you may see it appear as multiple lights if your eye is moving (I always see this effect in car tail lights)

    There's actually a deal on the Hue ambiance sets if you buy 4x E27 it's less than 12,- for one

    Bit late to the party, but I got a yeelight rgb led bulb for around 20 quid, way cheaper than phill hue, and I could do what I was planing.... It connects also to razer synapse software on my pc, where I can select screen areas to act like ambilight. Whatever is the most proeminent color in that area, its the color the bulb will light. Boy, it makes the gaming experience so much more immersive......

    Will these integrate into my existing hue ecosystem to be controlled through the hue app? I'm looking to add some more lights but would rather buy an alternative that are less expensive but can still be controlled by the hue bridge and app.

      This is a pretty late reply and you have probably already bought whatever bulbs you needed. But both Yeelights and Philips hue bulbs are supported in the Smarthings app by Samsung. the app is available in both apple device and android devices even if they aren't Samsung phones. So you can control both through that at the same time and integrate them with one another if you wish. I don't think you can use the Philips app to control yeelights though, you probably know more about that than me at this point.

    I don’t understand?
    I tried it on three bulbs and no flickering under any colors?

    Colour rendering index is to do with the spectrum of light they emit. This affects the colour reflected by the surfaces you are looking at. Early bulbs tended to only emit a narrow spectrum of light so while it was emitting a “white” light it was made up of red blue and green at specific wavelengths. Actual daylight has a more even output across the spectrum. So for example your room looks ok in daylight as the colour on the walls is reflecting a specific wave length that is strongly emitted in daylight, however your led bulb doesn’t admit that wavelength and the colour looks off.
    Philips could well be worse or actually better on CRI but without a light spectrum analyser we can’t verify the claims from either manufacturer.
    In any case Philips stuff is way overpriced and you don’t need any special kit to analyse that.

    I wish they made these as zigbee bulbs :/ I need to extend my zigbee network with them for the other sensors. I'm using the lidl smart bulbs but the dimness of everything except white and that certain colours make it flicker drives me nuts. I bought a yeelight bulb ages ago but have yet to actually put it anywhere (shouldn't have bought the screw fit)
