    I'm a truck driver AND I have a CB1100. I'm pissed at the trucker for not seeing you, this is why I run with the high beam on in the daytime.
    PS: You have a great positive attitude.

      Right! The guy coming down the road is always going to have the right-of-way over the guy pulling out of a parking lot, that's pretty basic stuff, huh?

    • @techo61
      @techo61 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True but look at the size and location of the truckies mirrors, no wonder he couldn't see a bike coming from his blind side (still no excuse for pulling out in front of a biker with right of way).

    • @assoverteakettle

      That was neither a blind spot fail, or lack of skills by the trucker. It was a brain fart. The trucker was probably too busy texting on his cel phone to notice the black bike coming down the road.

    Well, I guess this is 3 years late but just saw this video, glad nothing happened but a couple of observations from a 56-year-old rider. Starting with dirt bikes, been riding over 45 years and owned 26 bikes including Magnas, Interceptors, a Sabre, Superhawk 996 and an RC51. Never scratched so much as a single bike. Ever. Situational awareness, pure and simple. I'm a pilot and there's a phrase of "being ahead of the airplane". I will never allow a car to pull out in front of me, and that philosophy saved my bacon 3 times over the years, because when they DID I was at 5 mph and checking the rears to make sure no other idiot was going to plow in to me. Observation 1; it's a wet, rainy day, why ride and set yourself up? There's always tomorrow. Observation 2; you're vlogging and on a relatively unfamiliar bike, give yourself way more buffer space in ALL situations because your attention is divided. Observation 3; the road is wet and there's a semi nose-up to road? I'm already off the throttle several hundred yards before I even REACH the truck, and there's a perfect example why.
    I HATE those bumper-stickers "Look twice - Save a life, Motorcycles are everywhere!" Why on earth would you leave your safety up to someone else and expect them to look out for you??!! A motorcycle is an Iron Man suit, use it like the surgical instrument it is and it will become an extension of yourself.
    Love the videos, I'll always be a big fan.

    I have one of these (2013 model), which is I believe 84 HP, five gears (not the six introduced in 2014). It sort of tops out at 112mph (or at least my balls do). It's not a crotch rocket but it's still damn quick for anyone over 50. The brakes are really good. The 2013 & 2014 still had the sort-of squared off tanks (which I think look better and more retro). Starting in 2015 the tanks got out into more of a tear drop.........which is not retro looking. Somewhere along the line they also switched the headlight's to the modern whatever, which is brighter but also makes the bike look more modern. ...which, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of attracting us Boomers back to the "look of bikes" when we were young. They are AIR COOLED and I have never had an issue at all with the cooling system, despite my 24k miles. I have only had new brakes once. My 2013 has chrome fenders............ How often do you see that on Modern Japanese bikes. Oh, Instrument cluster also changed in 2014. The 2013 still had the round speedometer and Tach.......which is very retro.........but no gear indicator. 2013 also has four into one (righthand side) exhaust. The original exhaust looked like a stupid chrome horn (oversized), so I have a smaller aftermarket.

    @ 4:17 that was closed call, I always pay attention ahead of time to the "front wheel" of a vehicle if its waiting at intersection. once i see the front wheel starts to move, I honk and give them high beam to warn the crossing vehicle that I am approaching close to them. Often times I avoided collisions to crossing vehicles at intersections and parking lot entrances

The Honda to ride and the Yami to strip down and have fun working on (and ride occasionally when not in pieces) haha :). Need to sell my 22 Chief Darkhorse in the Spring first and hope they’re both still for sale come that time of year. Glad to know the ABS is rear wheel and I won’t be missing anything. I hate Big Truckers that drive like idiots. A friend of mine got run over by a Big Rig while he was on his bike. Truck cut him off just like in your case and he went under the trailer and the wheels went right over him and the bike. Believe it or not he actually survived with several broken bones and collapsed lung and 6 months in the hospital. Sadly he never got on a bike again after that ordeal. Glad it went a lot better in your case. Thinking of getting the CB1100. Not sure if it would be comfortable for someone that's 6'2" and 250 pounds? Another bike I am considering is the Vulcan S. Just want something to have fun on and do some weekend riding.

    @ 04:15 - Crazy stuff with that truck. I've been riding off and on for over 37 years. I currently have put over 64,000 miles on my Softail. In all of those miles, the closest I came to an accident I had no control over happened to me on the same day you posted this video (April 7th of this year). I took the day off work to ride my bike. I was on a 4 lane highway coming over a hill when a red blazer creeped across the highway to the median between the 4 lanes. The guy was literally riding his brake across 2 lanes (my 2 lanes) of traffic to get to the safe area between the 4 lanes. I had about enough time to slow down from 65 to 50 and less than 5 feet of space between his back bumper and ditch on the right side of the road. What just happened to you there is like a bird's eye view of the same thing I encountered. I've had plenty of minor close calls in all my years, but on that day, I think a little of my soul left my body. Glad to see you took care of business.

      Thanks. When I watched your video again, a few seconds after that semi pulled out, you looked back at him (roughly 04:22). At that point, he is across the road, damn near in the grass on your side of the road, which means you would have been out of pavement. Scary situation. When that blazer pulled out in front of me, I was going over a slight hilly overpass and he was coming from my right. He just pulled out of a MacDonalds parking lot and up the to stop sign. He stopped and then slowing started riding his brakes while crossing both of my lanes (4 lane highway, 2 lanes each way). It was either try to go in front of him, hit him, or hope for the best and just miss his back end (all this in less probably 3 or 4 seconds). You sounded like you took a few deep breaths there, I know I did. You were also lucky there was another road (or driveway) to your right. I just noticed that after watching your video again. You'd have no doubt been in the muddy grass if it weren't for that. Anyways, be safe out there.

Still, had you gone over the gravel if that truck got any closer you could have hurt your hands. Aside from that, I did notice you pull the clutch in to eliminate any traction to the rear wheel when going over the gravel (as taught & expected) - kudos on that one.

    I cant seem to find anyone that allows test rides near me. So my question is being that this is a different style of bike/motor than a vtwin cruiser, would this bikes 1140cc pull through lower gears real snappy compared to the 1300 v star i just sold? Im a traditional cruiser guy interested in this model and i didnt want to go down in CC’s but if that doesnt matter since its a sportier bike ide be interested in making the switch. Just not sure if tuning is different. Thanks in advance for any advice and i really enjoy your vids.

    Problem was you should of slowed down and anticipate that possibility of a trucker not seeing you.Instead you proceed to go forward assuming he will stop...That's an error of judgment on your side as well.When I ride a motorcycle I always assume the other cagier has not seen me.Its a defensive riding and everyone should practice.

      thats exactly what i did, do you slow down to a stop every time you participate someone might pull out in front of you ???

    It was a good thing you were on a bigger upright heavier bike with excellent breaking and real good suspension you didn't panic you let the bike take you for a ride where it wanted to go without jerking back hey Harley sport bikes or a cruiser anything sitting low would have went down

    Yeah I luv this bike, I would get one but I've still got my old Cbr1100xx. Luv that bike too. I do think ABS is good, I'm 68 and I've never had it on a bike, I wouldn't mind it though. Hey I've ridden through some terrible storms, couldn't see a darn thing, I'm going to try that rainx on my visor! Take care everyone! Covid days!

    You mentioned wheelies, I don't get it, I've been riding for almost 50 years, I've had every type of bike, three of them were a 1982 Kawasaki GPZ1100, a 2003 Yamaha R1 and a 2006 Honda Repsol, never did a wheelie, had zero interest doing one. I had a few friends who liked doing wheelies, ALL of them crashed their bikes doing wheelies and fortunately weren't injured badly.I don't get it, why do a stupid wheelie just to wreck your nice bike?

    I like a lot of the comments. While I appreciate knowing your attitude was positive during your interaction with the trucker, one thing you can do to lessen your risks while riding is to shut the hell up while riding. Record the video of your ride, then overdub your commentary from the safety of the inside of a building. Having the sound of the car honking was cool, too, but maybe if you weren't yammering on, you would have remembered to signal.
    Other than your distracted riding (and not wearing gloves) I liked your review. I bought that exact model, NOS last fall and love it. I'd like to point out that using the recommended shift points can get you well over 50 miles per gallon!

  • @pas0003
    @pas0003 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! You should wear gloves though! Also that truck.. he was definitely in the wrong, but dude - don't assume you can always run wide/etc - use your breaks. It's survival of the most paranoid on two wheels as far as I see it. I cover my brakes 95% of the time I see someone that could potentially pull out like that.

  • @freezerburn04

    Great review. I love these bikes. Glad you were more attentive than the truck driver. I pretend I'm invisible when I'm riding and ride accordingly.. because that's what we are out there whether we like it or not. I happen to be a (fuel) truck driver (eek!) and people pull out in front of me and I have a thousand lights and am as big as a house and people see right through me sometimes,. No shit bro. Glad you are all right and are staying attentive A++
