You can skip the second part, it didn't turn out very well, but the third part is mandatory to watch. The third part is a worthy continuation and conclusion of this story.
I love cats too they are very cute
I play DISNEY DREAMLIGHT VALLEY it is addicting
One of my favorite Disney movies I think your going to love it they make a sequel and a show that ties the 1st and 2rd movies and 1/2
Mary - the LION king was the very LAST hand drawn Disney animation the studio created.
all other movies after LION king were Digital.
This is Disney's masterpiece of a film that it didn't need a live-action remake. This will always be my childhood favorite film. RIP James Earl Jones
RIP
No film ever needs a remake and it's not live action it's animated just in a way that makes it look live action
Absolutely correct the film actually made an impact on Disney's productions that they threw certain characters into other Disney movies as cameos
"Live action" lol. Imagine getting real animals to do this movie.
Absolutely. Every once in a while I remember how good the animated movie is, and it fills me with the need to lie down for a bit
This is the pinnacle of the Disney Renaissance. Actually, of Disney in general. Rest in peace, James Earl Jones. May he look down on us from those stars.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I don't know about Disney in general
I remember watching the "trailer" for this movie in theaters. Disney just did a quick "coming from Disney" card and then the "trailer" was the opening of the movie. The entire Circle of Life thing. We're just sitting in the theater with our jaws dropping and watching the gorgeous animation. No additional explanation, no voice over to explain any of what we're watching, just that whole stunning opening number. Most effective movie trailer EVER.
I remember that trailer

The original animated Lion King film is so iconic and it’s WAY better than the live action version hands down

Just to clarify, Zazu's not a dodo. They couldn't fly. Nala called him that to mock him. He's actually a hornbill. Also, Rafiki's a mandrill, not a baboon.
They really missed an opportunity for Zazu to be a secretary bird 😂

Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King was pinnacle Disney animated movie for me, nothing else after these masterpieces was the same.
Those were ones from my childhood, but I like older ones too. 101 Dalmatians, Aristo Cats, Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone…
what about Pocahontas, Mulan, Tarzan, Hunchback of Notre Dame ? Don´t you like them?
I saw this movie at least 5 times with my mom in theaters. The score is still my favorite of all time.
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was a South African song written in 1939. It was covered by The Tokens in 1961 & became a #1 hit in the USA. "The Lion King" (1994) include the song in the movie score.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight- The original song title was "Mbube" (the Zulu word for "lion") and was written and first recorded in 1939 by Solomon Linda, a South African Zulu singer. In 1961, a version adapted into English with the title "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the doo-wop group The Tokens became a number-one hit in the United States. It earned millions in royalties from cover versions and film licensing
Sad fact: It’s almost painful to listen to the music, because Hans Zimmers dad died when he was really little. Just like Simba. So the story of lion king really connected to him on a painfully personal level. He used his whole personal pain in the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer said that this soundtrack was a requiem to his father.
Before I fully read this, why share the sadness? You can keep certain things to yourself. People don't look up reactions to Lion King to be depressed by reality.
We also tend to forget that apart from Jeremy Irons (Scar) and James Earl Jones (Mufasa), we also had Matthew Broderick (Simba), Nathan Lane (Timon), Rowan Atkinson (Zazu) and Whoopi Goldberg (Shenzi) among the cast as well. What an incredible lineup!
Not to mention the great Robert Guillaume and Cheech Marin.

You definitely need to watch Lion King 2 Simba's Pride. It shows Simba as a King and as a Father. You'll love it
The way the movie ends the same way it begins with the song Circle of Life is perfection. The music is seriously next level as is the voice acting across the board.
RIP James Earl Jones. Continue to look on us with the Great Kings of the Past. We shall remember you and your iconic voice.
Excellent choice for reacting a disney's True masterpiece!!🦁👑
@LisekTod but it had hans zimmer who made this spectacular musicscore and songs of elton john.
I think one of the reasons I liked this movie so much as a kid is cause Simba and Mufasa's relationship was very similar to me and my dad's relationship. He really was a super dad to me.

This came out I was in highschool. Took my little sister to see it. Rafiki kung fu nearly killed us. We laughed so hard I thought we were gonna die.

"The Lion King" has many details in common with "Hamlet", the famous novel by Shakespeare. For me, it´s the best animated film ever, with one of the best OST ever composed (by the great Hans Zimmer). ALWAYS touches my heart in some scenes. It´s truly a masterpiece.
It’s based on Hamlet, yeah, that’s why it shares so much in common with it.
This is definitely my favorite movie of all time. The animation, the characters, the songs, the story, all top notch. I can watch this movie so many times and never get tired of it I love it so much. I am so glad you got to react to this, Mary.

This film really didn’t need a “live action remake”! It’s an absolute classic
Nah, live action and this one have their own things greater than the other.
1994: the songs, the stampede, Nala chasing Pumba, Simba meeting Rafiki and Simba vs Scar.
2019: Simba's presentation, Mufasa talking to Simba, the battle on the lion's rock against the hyenas and Scar's death.

Seeing this on Broadway was an indescribable thrill. I was blown away.

You mentioned playing Disney Dreamlight Valley with Scar in it. Not sure how long ago you stopped playing, but there’s Simba, Nala, and recently added Timon and Pumbaa! 😊
Keep in mind Mufasa was also voiced by Vader's voice actor James Earl Jones. RIP.
Best and worse dad in movies.
Nala called Zazu a "dodo" derogatorily, not literally.
The sexy eyes from Nala when Simba is on on the ground under the waterfall.... it awoke something in many teens somehow. lol
The Lion King musical that is on Broadway and also has a North American tour is pretty awesome too! See that if you ever get a chance.
The first person I’ve seen who could watch Simba try desperately to wake his dead dad without a fountain of eye sweat
Jeremy Irons when voicing Scar was also the villian in Die Hard With Vengeance. He also Plays Alfred in Batman Vs Superman

This was such a big deal when this came out. Thanks Miss Mary Cherry. Love that great accent. Big shoutout from your guy in the States. Your smart as a whip and funny as hell. Keep em coming. Much peace and lots of love to you and yours. Later, Love.
Great reaction, as always, Mary!
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart. Especially the fact that Scar gaslights Simba into thinking it was his (Simba's) fault and Johnathan Taylor Thomas' line delivery.
Also, I am very glad they cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa. As much as I respect the actor, they almost cast Christopher Walken.
Side note: Some of the character's names have meanings translated out of Swahili
Simba: Lion
Nala: Gift
Mufasa: King
Sarabi: Mirage
Rafiki: Friend
Pumbaa: Slow-Witted
Zazu: Movement
Shenzi: Savage
Banzai: Skulk or lurk
Taka (Scar's original name): Dirt or Garbage
Timon (His name actually comes from Greek): Respect or Honor
27:53 - "This is just your memory. I can't give you any new information"
I understand Scar’s side now that the new movie came out and he’s my new favorite character
What’s funny is, the Disney A Team (better artists) were all begging to work on “Pocahontas”. They believed it was going to be the next “Beauty and the Beast” possibly better. The B-Team was assigned to “The Lion King” because they thought Disney was past the “talking animals” phase and the new way forward was just fables, with people. So the B-Team went all in. They took inspiration from Moses, Hamlet, Kimba the White Lion. Then, they poured their hearts and souls into this film. It ended up being the best of the Renaissance Period (1989-1999).
the musical score of this movie will forever be a part of my childhood to this very day, I still sing along with the songs whenever I hear them
If you don't cry when Mufasa dies, you can not be my friend
Peak childhood right here 🥲
Lion King is an epic classic from Disney, best soundtrack by far. #3 favorite Disney movie on my list, behind only Aladdin and Hercules

Rip James earl jones 😢
After watching the new mufasa movie; I completely understand why scar acted the way he did
Timone hitting the high note in "aweeeeeeeee" while singing is one of the best moments in this movie
Nostalgia at MAXIMUM, . . . Incredible Movie & Heartfelt Reaction Mary 😌😌😌
With the new Mufasa movie, our perspective on Scar has changed. I know that many people, when they watched The Lion King, hated Scar for killing his own brother and taking something that didn’t belong to him. But with the Mufasa movie, many of us understood Scar and realized why he went from being a good brother and companion to a monster blinded by resentment.
32:40
What's funny, is that in almost every other non-english dub of the film, especially norwegian, spanish, and german, Pumba says "I am not a pig, I'm a WARTHOG!"
You're right, it does sound suspiciously like Nathan Lane. Nathan Lane and Ferris Bueller, talking to a warthog.
19:24
Timon is a meerkat, and Pumba is a warthog :)
Earlier concept designs had them looking more realistic, with Timon having a long pointed snout and Pumba being beige-ish gray in colour, but the final designs were done more cartoonified
Another amazing reaction Mary ❤❤🔥🔥.
Scar didn’t despise simba just because he didn’t like him, he despised simba because for one, he was gonna be the new king, and 2 because he is a product of the lady he use to love and mufasa (before she admitted to loving mufasa). It’s literally like when some people can’t stand to look at their “son” or daughter anymore after the mom reveals they cheated and they aren’t the father
A hyena looks exactly the same as in the cartoon but more realistic, obviously
Oh so you know, the voice of older Simba is the guy who plays Ferris Bueller haha
Rest assured, The Lion King 2 is a decent sequel. Favorite animated Disney movie is Aladdin (1992)
No. Rescuers Down Under is the only sequel worth a damn.
23:21 I always choose to interpret him as wanting to say “a**” but then Nala running at him cuts him off
There is no time the speech by Mufasa to Simba fails to make me cry
If you ever get the chance to see the production def go and see it. Great reaction.
Love your reaction Mary, can you react to part 2 “Simba’s Pride”
33:04 if I am being honest Mary Scar was right for saying it the hyaenas idea to unalive Mufasa remember when Banzi said in the elephant graveyard what are we supposed to kill Mufasa Scar agreed with that idea and brought it to life but him selling them out is still jack cold to this day Mary.
If you know anything about how hyenas kill their prey, Scar's death is particularly gruesome.
I had this soundtrack on cassette tape and listened to it on repeat in 3rd grade. My fave Disney movie until mulan came out. Now those two rotate for top spot
As a younger brother who had to be craftier to beat strength, I relate to Scar haha. Plus his song slaps so hard
If you hate the villain, then the villain is very good.
This one is a very dark and classic story, and the 2nd has a edgier tone to it. So, I can't wait for The Lion King 2
My left eye just twitched so you know I just had a flashback to The Lion King SNES game level "I Just Wait To Be King". Oh lordy lord, does anyone else know what I mean?? 😰😰😰😰
