While I shall always have fond memories of XETV, Channel 6, I shall miss it dearly...especially programs like "The International Hour", "Weekend" and "Tijuana: Window to the South".
Anyone remember in 89 or 90 they used to play some very cool music over the color bars in the morning before the channel started programming? It was some instrumental guitar music that probable was some sort of smooth jazz. I've been trying to find onfo on that music for a while, anybody know?
XETV-TDT 6 of Tijuana, Baja California is now Canal 5, one of hundreds of simulcasts of TelevisaUnivision-owned station XHGC-TDT, Canal 5 in Mexico City. Its subchannel, XETV-TDT 16 is a simulcast of XEQ-TDT 9, NU9VE in Mexico City, also a TelevisaUnivision-owned station.
It's not an affiliate, it's an O&O of Televisa for the Channel 5 network. It was always owned by Televisa but they had an agreement to service San Diego. Televisa wanted this station to be part of the Channel 5 network for years, and you won't believe this: the concessionaire of XETV, Radio Televisión, S.A. de C.V., is the concessionaire of all Channel 5 TV stations, except for those in which Channel 5 is a subchannel. However, there are still two true affiliates of Channel 5, one is in Michoacan and the other in Tabasco, those stations are not owned by Televisa, are independent stations.
As a kid growing up in San Diego in the 70's - post-ABC as independent - we all watched Channel 6 for cartoons and reruns. Just like The Chargers leaving, this is a big loss
Christopher Sobieniak It is at least it not going away it just going to be a Spanish station. I wish I was still living in San Diego I wanna see XETV to the end
It happened to KFIZ-TV 34 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The station was founded in 1968 and lasted until 1972. The station could not find a buyer. The station also had to compete with other TV stations in Milwaukee and Green Bay for viewers. It also did not help that they lost the rights to broadcast educational fare such as Sesame Street and The Electric Company (some Independent, NBC, ABC and CBS affiliates did broadcast broadcast educational PBS programs on a per-program basis), not log after that, WPNE-TV 38 was established in Green Bay, Wisconsin as part of the network of Wisconsin Public Television affiliates. It would not be until 1980, that Green Bay, Wisconsin would get another independent station in the form of WLRE-TV (now WGBA-TV) 26, which began as an Independent station, became a FOX affiliate in 1992 (after original FOX affiliate, WXGZ-TV 32 of Appleton, Wisconsin, filed for bankruptcy and went dark) and finally, an NBC affiliate in 1995. The FOX affiliation would go to WLUK-TV 11.
KUSI should be part of a network but Tribune and Midwest TV overpaid them out in the past 9 years, if KUSI being sold to a major group they might get an affiliation swap or snatch
Wow! You're right. It's 2023 and now it will soon happen with Nexstar Media Group purchasing KUSI for $35 Million and will become a CW affiliate in 2025! FOX 5 KSWB and KUSI will be under one roof starting in the Fall of 2023!
Border television markets are very unique. Having stations from two countries in one market is pretty cool.
I like that uniqueness, despite the fact that English-speaking Mexican-owned TV stations are sadly a thing of the past...

LA ERA XEWT
"Local News, FOX Attitude" I remember that from my O'side days. Even saw a FOX 6 News van at Oceanside HS in 2004.

Sorry, but I have no information.😂😂😂
1:31 Look at these posters. They look very interesting. I wonder if we can find them online.

@@OM19_MO79 Good to know! I stand corrected...

goriajk San Diegan lost a family member and yeah the Chargers leaving hurt but the lost of XETV 6 will hurt the most
Even after losing the CW I was still hoping someone buy XETV and keep it as a independent station
Angel Barragan It's a shame.
Christopher Sobieniak It is at least it not going away it just going to be a Spanish station. I wish I was still living in San Diego I wanna see XETV to the end
Yeah I know, I just wish Televisa thought of something better for it than another repeater.
CW6 XETV is now CW San Diego KFMB-DT2
I'm surprised this hasn't happened to LA KCOP 13
