I've never found anything like this in hardware.
This isn't a compressor for every situation, but it sure does remodel dynamics in an interesting way.

I love this plugin! It really shines when you go extreme and i like to use it as a creative effect. I'm also a big fan of the SketchCassette 2

The extremes are where plugs like ShapeShifter and SketchCassette 2 shine.
When they're mixed in with the original signal, the subtly or obnoxiousness can be salted to taste.
