    Hey everyone! I set up the fiber optic decoder box in the trunk because that's what worked most reliably for my car, but you should test it behind the radio first! Some people have had good results with everything connected behind the new head head unit.

    • @ronwolfe9919
      @ronwolfe9919 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you place the decoder box behind radio do you need to do anything to existing equipment in trunk or just leave it alone and all connections other than the back up cam if used would be in trunk

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ronwolfe9919 If it works behind the new radio, there is nothing do in the trunk since you can make all the connections at the radio harness.
      The backup camera can be routed with whichever method you prefer. On my other S-Class I have it mounted inside the rear windshield and ran the wire above the door seals.

      @@frenchineeryeah I’m confused about that…everything you did was in the trunk, so if the fiber optic decoder box box will go behind the unit, I don’t need to do anything in the trunk?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Right, if the fiber optic box works with no issues when you make all the connections behind the head unit, you don't need to do anything in the trunk. That didn't work in my car so I relocated the decoder to the trunk to have a direct fiber connection from the box to the amp.

      @@frenchineer what is the minute mark on the video where you would do this? Also, do you have a recommendation on RCA’s to purchase? And also a backup cam, which one would you go with? You still gonna put the video out?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I only showed the connection for the canbus behind the unit, but you can tap into power and ground for the box on the radio harness. If it works behind the head unit you don't need any RCA cables, that's only if you need to connect the box near the amp.
      For the backup camera the type will depend on how you want to mount it. I'll be making a video of for the backup camera, but I am not sure when.

    i’ve been tryna do as much research as possible but i’m lost, i did pretty much everything i needed or so i thought, but there’s no audio the steering controls and everything works, just no audio at all, i have the d2b speaker cable tapping into the original power cable in the car(thought it’d give the amp power) but that didn’t work. do you know how to fix it…. i also haven’t done anything in the trunk or rca extensions was trying to not have to do that, any recommendations or advice?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The first thing you will need to do is connect the D2B fiber box to the D2B wake wire on the car's harness. It should be the blue wire on one of the harnesses that connected to the original head unit. The D2B box will send the correct type of signal to the amplifier to wake it up. If it's all working properly when that's done, you'll hear the amplifier click on in the trunk when the car powers on.

      The best way to determine if you need an amp is to look at the wiring harnesses that come off the radio. If there are wire pairs for each speaker that match up with the harness for the radio you are putting in, the amplifier is in the head unit. If not then you have an amplifier connected via fiber optic.

      That's strange, did your original radio work with all the speakers?

      @@frenchineer on the DSP it won’t play past the center of the car towards the rear

      Because of how the fiber optic decoder boxes work, the signal from the front speakers is passed as all channels to the factory amplifier. You can adjust balance L/R in the DSP, but fade front/back does not work because only the front audio outputs from the new head unit are connected to the decoder.
      If you set the fade to front or center audio should come out of all the speakers.

      I understand! Some people have had success with the decoder box installed behind the head unit and using a fiber loop to bypass the CD changer if necessary.
      In my case going to the trunk gave me the best results with amplifier wakeup.

      My d2b didn't work, you think it's because i didn't using fiber loop to bypass cd changer? @@frenchineer
      It's the cd changer the problem?
      (Sorry for my Bad english)

      It's possible you would need to bypass the CD changer. You could bypass it by reconfiguring the fiber or using a bypass loop. In my car that didn't work so I needed to do what I showed in the video.

      I have a question when I bought my s500 it didn’t have sound. But the original radio does work perfectly fine ,I did a diagnostic through the car and it popped up as the cd changer problem and I’ve been told that could be the reasoning for no audio. Will I get sound if I just buy the bypass loop for the cd changer without buying a new radio? Or do I have to get the new radio, decoder and the bypass loop for the sound to come back?
