Great video, I get even better performance in the Quest 3 a solid 60 fps in London although I also use the render target to set to 45 as I also have Virtual Desktop motion smoothing. The X3D comment was interesting. I don't think streaming has any bearing on the X3D as it's still rendering the 3D image in the GPU, you make it sound like your are streaming a friggin video from the cloud LOL. I would have thought though a CPU like the one I've got 13900K would get a lot closer to a 7800X3D because of the additional cores in the Intel CPU, would be interesting to see some MSFS 2024 benchmarks.
37 fps is rubbish. Why people accept this abysmal performance and then apologize for the inability of developers to do better is a mystery to me.
If 35fps provides a smooth, stutter free VR experience I don’t understand why it is considered’abysmal’
Man if you run smooth at 37fps or 90fps the experience is good and the difference is negligible
nah, turn your head quick and you will notice the difference in fps@@larryr.6473
I have the game setup wrong and get roughly that without vr. Point me in the right direction, please, Buddy Slainte 🙏
It’s not CSGO. With motion reprojection, 37 is fine with a 75 hz refresh rate and motion reprojection (Pimax calls it Smart Smoothing).
Thanks for the detailed Vid. Much appreciated. I will try these settings a bit later. I have the same setup as you except I have the 4090 and mine is the Crystal OG. Unfortunately I don't have the 90hz upscaling min my Pimax Play software. It seems to only be for the PCL. I am wondering how much of an impact this is and if I could "simulate" that feature with other software instead. Also, I see you are using render resolution in Pimax Play at Medium. Mine defaults to High. Is there much visual difference between the two? Finally, with the smart smoothing - Pimax has had a lot of issues in the past with smart smoothing. There used to be a lot of flickering or white screen flashes in the past. Has this all disappeared now? Some people say you should use smart smoothing with locked half frame rates. What are your thoughts on that? I didn't notice in your video if you are using the dynamic fps settings target slider in the sim - if so, what are you setting the target fps to? Thanks in advance.
I am using the new PimaxXR , can you display the FPS like the previous OpenXr app?
Thanks Bud - this really helped!
I’m glad it helped!!
3060 here and my performance is Pretty good with settings on high .. quite impressed actually… love the sim by the way despite its problems which will get sorted👍…. I live in York uk but I know Tucson very very well…. I have family there… will give you a shout when I come over 🍻👍 we will have to go for a beer!!😃
Make sure you join me on the Discord or shoot me an email when you're here and I'll definitely join you :)
Hey man, great vid! Question: what render resolution do you set within open XR? VR Flight Sim guy usually sets it to 3500x.... in TAA...?
I hope the OP answers this but my guess is that he isn't using Open XR toolkit as I saw he is using Pimax OpenXR in his video. I might be wrong though
He's using balanced resolution combined with 90 Hz upscale mode and DLSS.
Thats roughly 75% of 75% of 75% of native resolution, or about a 42% render scale, and reprojecting. That's why everyone's complaining.
I have a 7800x3d and 4090. In the previous title, I could hit 72hz native with DLAA at a balanced render target (~75% of native crystal resolution).
The new title runs about 20% worse setting for setting. And there's something wrong with waves, the water is all flat.
Personally, I use the PimaxXR manager instead of the native software. I lock it to half frame rate, and I can hit 45 fps at DLSS quality with 100% render target fairly readily.
My LOD needs to be significantly lower than the last title to do that as well though.
when turning your head left or right, do you see a slight flashing on the edge of the screen? That's what my PCL is doing.
I want to learn how to fly VR I have pretty much everything just want to do it right when I start.
I am getting pretty good VR performance with my PCL even with my 3080. Seems like TAA is much improved over MSFS 2020.
When this sim gets the bugs fixed on missions, and cursor function in VR it is going to be very good.
Have you tried mapping movement options onto your Pimax controllers, so we can walk around in VR roomscale style. I would like to see you content creators start pushing for this please.
As well as a single screen display for monitors, so people can watch us fly. That would be nice.
may I ask you some things?
sooo you are using TAA in the msfs vr graphic settings?
do you also use openxr? if yes, what upscaling do you use there? and what resolution do you use there?
please make a video . i don t believe you :)) with 4070 ive lost almost half of fps from 2020
Make a video about what? LOL isn't that what this video is??
@@OverkillSimulations half of the planet have a bad exp in vr and you not .
Wonder if Win 11 24H2 will improve things further with direct memory access etc, believe it will shift a chunk of CPU work to the GPU, so with a decent GPU, could see even more improvement
Thanks for the tips. Only problem is that I still don't have access to the Pimax update you are using 😔
Is your EFB working in VR or you just have it open for giggles? I know that there is a bug that won’t let us use the EFB.
Finally works for me.Its great for GA but that’s about it..
Really? I've had no issues with my VR. 60 fps min even in built up areas. I've had no issues with performance and absolutely love the fidelity in the sim that I'm seeing through the headset, even on an RTX 4080.
@ yea it looks good on my end so maybe some have lack luster internet like some from U.K. who said that they deliberately slow down severs. So they need a VPN to block the I.S.P
@@stephenbrown2367I think that’s just a conspiracy theory. I am in the UK and it’s literally because UK internet is beyond disgraceful. They dug up my street during COVID to put in fibre optic. 4 years and I’m still on 1970’s copper.
Hi a quick question a bit off topic. I noticed that you have a small FPS counter displayed on you screen. I used to have this as well. However, I recently had to a full reinstall and no longer have it, and have forgotten how to turn it on. If you don't mind could you let me know? Thanks Kevin
FYI that yellow FPS counter is from the OpenXR Toolkit. If you reinstall that and enable FPS it will reappear for you.
Thanks very much.@@jordovevrsims1796
Are these settings applicable for the original Crystal as well?
What are your open xr settings and most of all res in open xr? Im running a varjo aero with a 4090 and everything on high -some ultra and getting around 30 fps - with motion smoothing so basically 60. There are stutters still at times....but I hope they will iron that out. Also what dlss are you using? Thanks
OpenXR is all default :)
@ yes but what is your resolution on it as default.
How is 30 playable for you? Don't you need 45 minimum as the refresh rate is 90 so half
@ motion smoothing and dlss! It’s in varjo base software. Without to getting around 45.
VRFlightsimguy has actually done a real back to back performance test and 2024 performs approx 5-8 FPS worse than 2020
You’re in windowed mode surly you’ll get better performance in full screen
He’s got a VR headset on, you are only seeing the mirror on his screen. You can’t possibly recreate VR on a flatscreen. It’s impossible to recreate VR in 2D.
How you not getting stuttering at 30 fps? The minimum you need is 45 isnt it for half refesh rate reprojection?
It depends on the headset and refresh rate. Some headsets have variable refresh. On the Pimax you can set 75 HZ. So 37 gives you reprojection. If you set 90hz on the display then 45 gives you reprojection. With the Pimax and Quest 3, you can even set 120hz. With 120 you get reprojection at 60 fps.
Should I be unplugging my monitor when using VR. How does that affect FPS for you? I have both a 1080 P monitor and a 1440 P wide screen, but the 1440 P has been unplugged. I am using a quest three
No. I would definitely not. I see no difference in performance. IF you saw a difference it would be a frame or two at MOST
great settings, just a shame the photogrammerty looks so poor!
What are you using for the FPS display on VR?
That is the OpenXR counter
@ I was looking at downloading the tool kit, but it said it’s not supported anymore and I wasn’t sure if it was compatible with Primax crystal light since openXR is now integrated in the Pimax software. Everything works OK?
Would these setting work for the normal Pimax Crystal
I wouldn’t see why not but as always test it and let’s hope. My Crystal is being shipped back to me from a friend as we speak. So I’ll let you know once I can test it :)
Love your channel. Thanks for all the hard work. Can someone help me with mouse control in VR. I have the PSVR 2 and when in VR the mouse works for like 5 secs then switches from the arrow pointer to a round circle and nothing is clickable. It's almost like it immediately switches to the handheld controllers even though I have them powered off. I've tried legacy mode with no resolution. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is there a setting in Steam VR I'm missing? Thanks in advance.
Oh that’s the aircraft interaction mode. Middle mouse button :) should bring the cursor back
It's working now. Did absolutely nothing lol. Thanks again for the channel..
And can you use smart smoothing with DLSS?
Yes.
If you zoom in on this video...the buildings and terrain is melted. Looks like a wasteland. So i wouldn't have faith about how reliable his framerate or frame times are
Why?? The last video where people were asking me to do this was in Sedona where everything was perfect??
@OverkillSimulations I should have explained that my comments are intended towards the folks who haven't purchased the game yet. My bad. But the scenery is cooked. The community is absolutely divided about the vr experience
Yep looks like absolute shit
Try to turn off gsync.
Really?? In the nvidia panel?
@@OverkillSimulationsyes, I am not saying it is in conflict with VR but it might be, I always turn gsync off when in VR
