Today I fall asleep listening to the radio.
In the sixties I listened to Radio Caroline.

A most interesting wee programme. Lovely to have kept Ronan O'Rahilly's original idea afloat. Thanks for this TH-cam clip. The transmissions from the original Caroline vessel Fredericia in Ramsey Bay used to roar into my car radio down in SW Scotland. Sadly missed when the Labour Government shut down the offshore stations.

Nice Video - What a Great Ship. I went aboard in the 90s. Love the closing music too.

I'm amazed it's still going strong! It's a cool bit of British history.

Thank you David. The volunteers are doing an amazing job of keeping her going. can't wait to see the engine turning again one day. ... and the transmitters too .. that would be incredible.

16:48 The mentioned replacement antenna was not a dipole, but instead a T-antenna, vertically polarised (thanks to its vertical-wire section), with its top horizontal section helping to "make the vertical section think it was taller than it really was", as was needed to match it efficiently to the transmitter.

Nice to see the GATES console still working. So many, including my husband, worked behand this board. Private radio in Canada was quite different from being at sea. Every third song was Canadian content and some program directors hated this. It worked wonders for promoting our bands and singers. Cheers from Canada.

Valves as the British say are best when the equipment runs all the time. Turning tube boards on and off shortens the life of the tube. These GATES boards were so very tough and the sound from the monitor speaker was fantastic.

Looking at the ship I should nearly say: Light up the anchors, start the engines and push on the tranmitter ON button ;) I enjoyed the am relay at 219 metres fron the 15th till the 21th of November 2014

Very interesting indeed. Interesting that part of the interview is what I wanted for Bay Radio in Spain with John Curtis doing an interview with Peter Moore on Bay radio about the future of the station and ship. There was to be part 2 of an interview with Peter Moore that never materialized due to a disagreement that I had with Peter Moore about some ideas that I also had in mind about explaining what happened in the days of the raid on the Ross Revenge. Part 1, and hour long interview with Peter Moore having already been broadcast on Bay Radio. Martin Fisher was also invited! Also duly noted that the security locks on the door to the generator room on the ship that I fitted are still there and still being used! The very last paint job that I did during my very last visit to the ship before I left the UK for good is also on the video! Much of the idea of the Manx Radio Broadcast was the idea that I had in the back of my mind for Bay radio in Spain that did several programmes about Radio Caroline at my request. I am pleased that the right person, namely Chris "Carnaby Street" who obviously has a far greater in depth knowledge about Caroline and the Ross Revenge than John Curtis clearly has done a brilliant job and I have to congratulate both him, Peter Moore and the others that appeared in this video recording and I look forward to the programmes that will commence, not from Spain, but from the Isle of Man!
