What am I talking about?
My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.
"Happy Mercedesing"
In this video watch everything about the airflow meter. I will be answering some doubts which I got as questions. Find out what is an airflow meter, what it consists of as a whole unit, what the mixture screw does, how it's readjusted, does is have to be readjusted at all if it has never been touched before and if yes what should you do and how do you have to adjust it properly, if it comes to detonations what you should do, what happens actually as you screw the 3mm allen in or out and how does it look like, in fact why is it that the lever becomes stiffer or why it gets more gap when deflected. For how much you should be turning the mixture screw in or out and if the car starts shaking should you turn the mixture screw or there are some other priorities instead of turning the mixture screw. You will see then why the K(E)-Jetronic is so reliable system. In fact if any issue happens with the electronic, the KE starts behaving as a fully mechanical K-Jetronic system - it needs no ECU, lambda, EHA or potentiometer to run. The car won't let you down, it's just going to have a higher fuel consumption and won't work as steady as if the E components were there but the engine won't stall - it is going to drive you to your home. If out of any reasons you have to make adjustments here on your airflow meter you are going to do it once and never again. The only downside on this system is the potentiometer which has to be checked/readjusted each 90k miles/150 km. Once set as it has to be the KE-Jetronic is a system you won't have to touch anything on for at least 10-15 years(depending on the mileage you make).
One happy reliable system, one happy owner make it - HAPPY MERCEDESING!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing this video. It is both entertaining and enlightening . I’m gonna make sure NEVER to touch that 3mm allen adjustment screw EVER!!! 😎
I confirm “don’t touch it” 😂 someone touch it on my car, I spend many hours to find why the car started and stop just after… have to adjust it and then car started perfectly after hours to verify and test many things… so I fully agree “don’t touch it” 😂😂 thanks for the video.. 👍

Educational videos like this are always useful! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Michelle. Greetings

Thanks for video..
You are welcome, anytime!
Hello . Very good Video!
hard to find in the internet good explanation about the Airflow meter.
i know that mine someone before changed the position of CO screw .
I open the air flow meter, how i can send you picture to show you what the position of laver the push the plunger ?
Send it on my email

Hello my friend I just finished putting new gas tank in my 300sl 1991 now I have no leaks so far now I have to turn my air flow meter adjusting screw counterclockwise to get it started . Tomorrow my friend would crank it while I try to find the correct adjustment. I hope it would start. I change filters everything
Hello. Just don't do the adjustments on your engine OFF, always while the engine is ON, running at the operating temperature.
👌
Hi….Im working on ‘85 jetta with cis-e system very similar….On my potentiometer, one of my 3 contacts in the harness connector is damaged(all bent up). I also have one of the wires about to break off….insulation hard and completely broke….just hanging by the copper strands. Can you tell me how to unpin these female contacts so I can repair my wiring harness?
I wasn't working so much with VW so I can't tell about that much.
@@mercedeske ok….I have taken them out before but its been years ago. I can seem to get the metal lock tap depressed…..I cant really see where it is. Thanks anyway
@@mercedeske awww…..found out from my son who was a vw tech. how to get them out. FYI….each contact has 2 metal taps that lock them in the plastic connector….one on each side of the contact….both have to be compressed inward at same time away from the plastic to clear the locking groove.
My plunger is sticking and the center plate goes down but doesn't return up. Should the plunger fall just under gravity or should there be a return spring to push it down? Thx
There is a spring on M102 engines, on M103 there is not as well as on M116/M117 engines. I suppose that you have rather problem with the airflow meter(spring stuck). Remove the airflow meter and flush it with a carb or brake cleaner and get everything back. If you have a problem with the plunger then soak the fuel distributor in WD40(although I would say that you have problem with the airflow meter).
Thank you for perfect video. I think I have problem, because guy who sold me a car told me that they turned with Co screw, but I dont know which direction and how much. I have problem with acceleration. When I push acceleraror too much car interupt acceleration then I must take off foot from accelerator. It lasts 2-3 seconds and than i can push accelerator and car accelerate again. It is problem durig overtaking. When I push accelerator to max50-60% car accelerate to max rpm without interupting. Can be the problem with co screw? Thank you for answer.
If you have more or less gap then 1.9mm then you have a problem with the plate. Check how much free play you have before the plate starts moving harder.
@@mercedeske Ok, thank you. I ´ll check it.
Ok260e 😍🥰👋👍
Thanks. I'm trying as hard as I can.👍🙋👏😃😀

Zove se Doli. Ima instagram ali ne da svakom.🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hvala puno na komplimentima. Što se šrafa tiče, on mora da se podesi da imaš mali zazor(1.9mm). Onda posle finije unimerom. Pozdrav i vama od mene
im having an issue as well. No matter how i tune the air flow adjuster the engine just isnt getting enough gas. No matter how i tune it i dont know what to do anymore is it possible u can help me?
Do the initial mixture adjustment, check all the sensors and mechanical components and then fine tune the mixture.
@@mercedeske this is my first mercedes and first car. What sensors should i check and how should i check them. Is there any way to contact u personally ill pay for your time if need be
