The protagonist's name is Atsu. He reveals that Atsu's journey takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. Our story takes place in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in the heart of Ezo, a region of Japan known today as Hokkaido. By 1603, this region was outside of Japan's rule and filled with sprawling grasslands, snow-covered tundras, and unexpected dangers. This is a far cry from the organized samurai clans that lived in Tsushima
Fun little tidbit I learned from a commenter elsewhere, the origin of the shamisen in Japan can be traced to sometime in the 1500s, and the city that it originates from is called... Sakai. The spirit of Jin is following her in more ways than one.
Yess!! I played through it on the channel when it came out and adored it! Definitely will be doing a quick run through of the campaign again and then jump into the DLC.
I'm pretty sure they did the shamisen on purpose, as this music instrument originates from China and it is believed that it was introduced into mainland Japan via the Port City of Sakai. There is also a guy in the trailer who wears Samurai armor with a helmet which has antlers on it, which also looks eerily similar to the Sakai family armor you had to retrieve in GoT.
The Japanese first started to colonize the land of the native Ainu people in the 1400s. There was much trade and friction between them. This story takes place in 1603, so it was still something of a frontier. The newly formed Tokugawa Shogunate took an interest in the area (but had no control over it) and granted the local Matsumae Clan a monopoly on Trade in 1604, however there continued to be conflicts between the Japanese and the Ainu until the end of the century. It’ll be interesting to see how this story fits into the history of the area. (The first permanent European settlement in North America was at Jamestown in 1607.)
@@swiper_prime In the year 1584 Ikeda Sen led a troop of 200 women armed with firearms at the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute and in 1600 at the Battle of Sekigahara, a rare example of a teppō unit, or musketeer unit consisting only of women. Perhaps, this is where our Protagonist learned to shoot. At this time, Japan was the largest manufacturer of firearms.
Oh really, that's wild! I would love for Atsu to have some female mentors like the women that were in the Battle of Sekigahara. I bet would some interest dynamics of how they feel about society after being in war.
Ghost of Tsushima is one of the BEST games I've EVER played, its everything a samurai game should be. Still upset that Ghost didn't wjn GOTY in 2020 but it is what it is. Yes, I am looking forward to playing Assassin's Creed Shadows, but it'll NEVER top Ghost. I'll DEFINITELY grab that collector's edition for Ghost of Yōtei. Also, subscriber earned 🥰
Totally agree! It was the first game I ever platinumed! I feel kinda bad for AC Shadows because it will be *incredibly* hard to get out of Yotei's shadow (pun intended lol). Thank you for supporting the channel! 🥹
Takes place 300 years later after Tsushima
I CAN NOT wait to learn more!!

🔥🔥🔥
329 years after Tsushima! You forgot the other 29 years!
1274-1603=329, can't do simple math?
Just thought about it, it would be awesome if they mentioned Shōgun! It happens in a different prefecture but same time period!

That is so dope!!! I'm so curious what her tie is to Jin. Thank you for sharing!
Oooh you're a Ghost of Tsushima fan too? I played it when it came out on steam and absolutely loved it. Looking forward to Yotei.

I got so caught up with the scenery that I totally didn't notice the shamisen. Good eye!
Thank you! I'm so excited to see what else Atsu has in her kit!

Oooh, I gotta peep this. Good eye, lol!

Oh wow. I can definitely see that fitting into the story considering it looks like trading was happening since firearms are present.
