- This Cadd9 tuning is really fun to use! It's CGCGCD so it only really consists of 3 notes but having all these Roots and 5ths in there makes it very earthy and grounded and then because it's very low in pitch that then adds to the fullness of it.
If you play in DADGAD then it's very similar to that tuning with the 6th 5th and 4th string both Root 5th Root.
Try this tuning out and let me know what you think? Or maybe you already use this tuning or perhaps another C tuning?

Thank you for this! It sounds gorgeous. I play on CGCFGC and CGCEGC a lot, but I’ve not tried this one. Looking forward to having a go!
Hi, thanks! Yeah those other tunings are great as well. Hope you have fun with this one! 🙂👍
I'll be adding this one to the open tuning rotation. Cadd9 has always been a favourite first position cowboy chord
I’ve been tuning like this for a long time, I started toying with open c major, but got turned onto this tuning shortly after by a buddy. I play in standard c, standard d and this tuning almost exclusively and have for probably like 10 years! Rad video!
Hi, thanks for the comment!! Ah nice, yeah it’s a really nice tuning, I’m still exploring it and some other variations around C 😊👍
I like that, I can't say I know any songs in that tuning, but I love that low drone tone you get from it. I'm gonna have to take a deeper dive in that kind of tuning. I like the post and appreciate your videos.
Hey, thanks so much! Yeah I’ve been diving into more C tunings these days as well, you just need to make sure your strings are thick enough to handle the low C 😉👍
Travis Meadows! Check out his album “killing uncle buzzy” Thank me later
Thanks! This make sense and sounds fantastic
Cheers Dale, glad you enjoyed it 😊
You will not believe this; I have been practicing a song by Travis Meadows for over two weeks now. Actually two songs, one is called “Learning To Live Alone” and the other is called “It Gets Better” It is in open tuning, I found out open ~C but there was still something missing. I also found out that the e string needed to be tuned to d. No tutorials anywhere. Today I went back to this video and now I know what it is called lol. Cadd9. Check out Travis Meadows, he has a story to tell, amazing!!
Hey Jasper! How’s it going? Oh yeah that sounds interesting! I’ll check him out. By the way, I see that you took down all your videos on your TH-cam channel, how come? There were some really nice songs on there!
@@FabianHollandGuitar can’t believe you looked at them!!!! Yes I am never satisfied with my performance. I was so bad last month and the month before etc. Embarrassed often. They almost had 5+ years. Terrible. Yes please open Cadd9 Travis Meadows. Videos will come. Promised.
I worte a song rigth away before i finish your video, thanks man
Nice! Glad it inspired you man!! 😉👍
Absolutely lovely. I discovered this tuning from open C and am working on a song with acoustic and heavy electric sections, yu can use this tuning in metal too.
Nice! Oh yeah im not surprised it would work with metal 🤘 nice one!
And you can get beautiful complicated jazzy chords with familair shapes of a standad tuning chords. Moreover you can play Led Zeppelin's The Rain Song with it with a slight alteration because Jimmy Page used DGCGCD and low D is not that crucial for that song.
Oh yeah absolutely! Thanks for the tip!! 😉👍
Simon Fox has a couple songs in this tuning, I’m learning “Eleven Icebergs” off his Night Fishing album. Fun tuning!
Ah nice! I haven't heard of that one, I'll check it out!! Thanks🙂
Great stuff, lovely presentation and content. Ive been using this tuning a bit for slide, it feels more flexible due to no major third. Its also close to CGDGCD (Orkney tuning) which i use alot.
Whats the mic you are using on your voice? Also now you have me thinking about a Lowden O-10
Hi, thanks so much for your comment. Sorry it's talking me a while to reply to comments, we're still in school holidays over here.
Glad you enjoy the tuning, yeah I find it works well with slide also. The mic I'm using is a NoHype Audio LRM-2 Ribbon mic. Oh yeah these Lowden O-10's are great, I love mine!
Nice sound! Which one string you use in each note?
Hi, thanks! Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I'm not sure I understand your question? Do you mean which strings am I playing with every note that you hear me playing in the video?
its my tuning
I think It would be amazing If you borrowed a Martin 000-15sm 12 fret and played it in a few videos. I would love to hear the comparison of both guitars 🎸
Oh yeah those little Martins look lovely. I've played a few Martins and I do like the sound of them for sure. They have a very particular sound I find, a bit like Lowdens you know it's a Martin when you hear it. I also do really like the Martin D28 as well.
