Early in her career, she worked with the great Burt Bacharach. She recorded a number of songs he wrote. My personal favorite is "Anyone Who Had a Heart".

Dionne also had a sister named Dee Dee Warwick who was a professional recording artist as well. She sung hit songs like "You're No Good" ('64), and "I Want To Be With You" ('67),
The niece of Cissy Houston, and first cousin of Whitney Houston. Three voices like that in one family, amazing! By the way Cissy and Luther Vandross sing background on Chaka Khan's hit "Papillion".

The song charted #1 all over the world but only made it to #66 on the U.S. Billboard 100 Charts in '86. I heard Diana was so passionate about this song that she got it done with only one vocal track in the studio.
Dionne Warwick made her name singing Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs like "Walk on By" and "Wishin' and Hopin'. Is also the cousin of Whitney Houston.
I second the comment about her work with Burt Bacharach in the late sixties: Say a Little Prayer, Walk on By, Do you Know the Way to San Jose. That was gold for the times. Well worth the listen.
The first song you listened to was That’s What Friends Are For With Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight and Elton John !!! You guys really loved that one!!!

So glad you finally reacted to this one. It was a huge hit in the UK for Miss Dionne Warwick in 1982. She started out in the 60s with hits "Walk On By" 1964 "Do You Know The Way To San Hose" 1968 "I'll Never Love This Way Again" 1970. 🎶🎼❤
As you noted Amber, Dionne is a master of leaping through notes from top to bottom and back again. My favorite of hers is "Do you know the way to San Jose?"
I absolutely love this woman and ALL her music! Ms Warwick and Burt Bacharach were a tour de force starting in the early 60s through the early 70s. Bacharach (6 Grammys & 3 Acadamy awards) is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who wrote hundreds of pop songs between the late 1950s and the 1980s. I believe they, together, basically created the "pop" music genre.
Ya, but Burt also had a female lyricist. I forget her name. They collaborated to create songs that only Dionne’s voice could carry off so effortlessly. 👏👍
Yes, please react to Dionne Warwick’s early work. She’s got an AMAZING voice. The work she did with producer Burt Bacharach in the 60s are classic hits 😊
I am speechless. I grew up listening to Dionne Warwick and absolutely loving her. She hosted "Solid Gold" back in the late 1970's to early 1980's. But I never knew until looking her up on Wikipedia for more songs that I have forgotten that she is directly related to Whitney Houston. They were first cousins. Wow! Just wow.
She had great hits earlier.”I Say a little prayer”.”I’ll never fall in love again” “Do you know the way to San Jose” “ Walk on by” late 60s early 70s classics. Her clothes and general style was also awesome. She was great later also but in the late 60s and early 70s she was lightning in a bottle.
Her voice is one of the best. She is is Whitney Houston's cousin, and they share some similarities in their vocals, which you will hear if you check out any live version of Dionne Warwick singing her classic hit I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again. She will surprise you with the power of her voice.
I've been listening to Dionne ever since the early 60s when she sang" Message to Michael". She's had so many big hits including "Walk on By", "Don't Make Me Over", "Anyone who had a Heart", and my personal favorite "No Night So Long". She's been "cranking " out hits for over 40 years. I'm so glad you featured her on Female Friday.
The Bee Gees also wrote and sang backup on two other big female solo hits "Emotion" (Samantha Sang) and "If I Can't Have You" (Yvonne Elliman, from Saturday Night Fever).
A multi-Grammy legend from Motown days on and Whitney Houston’s aunt. She’s a powerhouse, this is a more subtle song given to her by the Bee Gee’s. You could do a lot of shows with just hits written by the Barry for others. The top would be Immortality with Celine & the Guilty album with Barbara (Celine & Barbara have an amazing duet - Tell Him).
Yes, Barry Gibb has that distinctive habit of seamlessly add a beat to a bar (or measure) without it all sounding strange. Or subtract a beat. But it always flows perfectly. To do that without making the song sound weird is musical genius.
I'll forever remember Dionne Warwick hosting "Solid Gold" in my younger years (a music program with the top musical guests performing their hits plus a top 10 countdown with the "Solid Gold Dancers").
Dionne Warwick was so big in the 60s. You should look at her early collaborations with Burt Bacharach and Hal Davis. She is also the aunt of Whitney Houston. One of my favorite songs of hers is “walk on by” and Alfie.
Dionne Warwick has a beautiful voice! You should check out Deja Vu Walk on By and Then Came You which featured Dionne with The Spinners. Dionne is Whitney Houston's first cousin!
I was so fortunate to see her live in Vegas at a dinner show. It was a very small, intimate venue and like she was singing in your living room. She had a huge stage presence. She was on my bucket list whenI lived in Vegas. So many hits, a huge star and deserved all the accolades!
The other night, I was watching the Clive Davis documentary on Netflix. Clive brought both Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin onto Arista Records and resurrected their careers. Both ladies were languishing with not having a hit in several years. Clive was able to talk Dionne and Aretha into joining Arista, and both ladies came back to win awards for songs that Clive found. Clive Davis was known as the man with the golden ear.
Dionne is a legend and forever will be. "I'll Never Love This Way Again" "Don't Make Me Over" "Walk On By" are a few of her other songs to check out. She is very mellow and laid back. Hope you do a livestream soon :D

Another great Bee Gees's song🎶🎶🎶 Been listening to her since the early 70s. What a voice 🎶🎶🎶
Yes, please react to Dionne Warwick’s early work. She’s got an AMAZING voice. The work she did with producer Burt Bacharach in the 60s are classic hits 😊
Dionne's voice is so unique to me. Strong and fragile at the same time. Definitely entrenched in the R&B soul of my childhood
A first cousin to the late pop superstar Whitney Houston, Warwick's mother and Houston's mother, Cissy, were sisters. Peace out.
One of the best voices in music
Just watched her new bio documentary
Such an Amazing woman
Please review Dionne’s “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?” or her duet with The Spinners “Then Came You”.
The Bee Gees were backing singers on this 😎
Tidbit info: Dionne Warwick is 1st cousins with Whitney Houston and this song was written Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.
Her voice is one of the best. She is is Whitney Houston's cousin, and they share some similarities in their vocals, which you will hear if you check out any live version of Dionne Warwick singing her classic hit I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again. She will surprise you with the power of her voice.
For the ultimate Dionne experience, you need to listen to her 60’s music. So good.
One of the most heart wrenchingly beautiful songs of all time. Wish there were artists writing and singing songs like this today.
Dionne Warwick is the cousin of the late & talented, Grammy winner Whitney Houston.
R.I.P. Whitney & your daughter R.I.P. Bobbi Christina
The top would be Immortality with Celine & the Guilty album with Barbara (Celine & Barbara have an amazing duet - Tell Him).
they are first cousins (Dionne's mom is an older sister to Cissy Houston).
Correct! First cousins
Yes, Barry Gibb has that distinctive habit of seamlessly add a beat to a bar (or measure) without it all sounding strange. Or subtract a beat. But it always flows perfectly. To do that without making the song sound weird is musical genius.
Man, Amber can you pick them. Not only was Dionne a fantastic singer but this song was written by The Bee Gees.
I'll forever remember Dionne Warwick hosting "Solid Gold" in my younger years (a music program with the top musical guests performing their hits plus a top 10 countdown with the "Solid Gold Dancers").

She has a beautiful voice.....so soft and blusey.... Love it
My first concert was Dionne Warwick!! Whitney's cousin!
Dionne Warwick was so big in the 60s. You should look at her early collaborations with Burt Bacharach and Hal Davis. She is also the aunt of Whitney Houston. One of my favorite songs of hers is “walk on by” and Alfie.
Dionne & Whitney are 1st cousins. Their mother's, Lee & Cissy, are sisters (Lee being 13 years older than Cissy).
Her biggest hit (on the charts). She turned it down several times, but the Bee Gees convinced her to sing it. And did she ever!
Dionne Warwick has a beautiful voice! You should check out Deja Vu Walk on By and Then Came You which featured Dionne with The Spinners. Dionne is Whitney Houston's first cousin!
always loved Dionne Warwick. Yep. Bee Bees tune. Thanks.
What a Talent loved listening to her back in the day and still do . Her voice is so perfect
Great choice!! What synergism between the Bee Gees and Dionne Warwick! I believe she covered this song in 1982. The Bee Gees are absolutely legendary.
I was so fortunate to see her live in Vegas at a dinner show. It was a very small, intimate venue and like she was singing in your living room. She had a huge stage presence. She was on my bucket list whenI lived in Vegas. So many hits, a huge star and deserved all the accolades!
Always loved Dionne Warwick!! Such an amazing voice....from way back in the day!!! ♥️
