I getting ready to start knitting my first sweater using the Cocoknits Workshop book. Julie has been helping me, I’ve knit a bazillion swatches and Julie helped me choose the needle size. I am a plus size and am a size bigger than the 3x. I needed some hand holding here... she was great. I think this might fit me...

What is so encouraging to me is seeing people's GOOD and reasonable responses to unreasonable situations. Change the conversation, give people a chance to learn, give people a chance to see what needs to change. It doesn't have to be so... I don't know what the word is? The overwhelming tide of anger and wave of aggressive mean-ness (for lack of a better way of putting it) has had me almost in tears. :/ When the gal sitting by you said " Don't call them out, call them IN." Everything in me cried out YES THIS! THIS is how we affect people and change one-on-one. This is how hearts soften or when people really hear. I have seen this to be so true my whole life.
So many things DO need to change for the better. Even the way that people are seeking to make the changes need revamping. One approach or way of doing something does not work for every situation or every group of people.

Gaye, I am writing because diversity is a conversation you like to have. I think that you might enjoy my story. I am a 68 year old (primarily) white woman. When I was little I had a friend that I spent time with but we didn’t go to school together. Our parents worked together at the same school, both educators. In junior high we finally were at the same school. She introduced me to 3 of her friends and we all became friends. I introduced her to my friends, we all enjoyed each other’s company. By high school clicks were forming and we didn’t do as much together. But we danced together, and walked to classes together. Chatted in the halls and at lunch. In 1969 race riots were a big thing. One day we were practicing our dance final at Sandy’s house. Alethia was teaching us a new step called the panther shuffle. Juanita (my oldest friend) looked at me and said”she’s pretty good for one of those”. I didn’t understand, when had I become “one of those”? A week later before school let out for graduation the black student union held a protest. Violence did happen. Rocks were thrown at me by my friends. We graduated. I married and moved away. Came back some years later. Ran into Diane and Sandy at the store. It was so nice to see them again. Sometimes the world gets in the way. Now just because I hold conservative values I’m accused of being a white supremacist by Ravelry. But I have friends of color who are even more conservative than I am. We just don’t give each other a chance sometimes.
