    Great presentation. I wish the numbers you are giving for the cost were Canadian . Oh well it is still a good price for a motor and installation with such a reliable and easy to operate easy to maintain or replace with identical Honda motor if desired. I sure would like to know if you would sell your reduction drive separate .

    If only we could get Dan Johnson, AvWeb and ANN/Campbell to do some muckraking on Jan's Subaru engine exploits. Oh well, no time for that.

    Jan I would like to see the Engine Manual for your 180T Honda I think that might be the best call for a Zenith

    That Viking invented torsion dampening system has been used on AWD and 4WD SUVs for many years , :-)

    What about the 180hp engine, no mention of that? Is it still available? Likewise not alot about it on the Viking website

      Brett Senior hey! Still have it, just didn’t have our plane or one on a stand ready for the show. Plenty available sold another setup for the Zenith Superduty at the show. We have a lot of videos on our channel about it and will also be another soon. We get around 9.3 gph with it and cruise about 105 is the Superduty, but it’s a pretty draggy frame for stol purposes.

    I think ill pass on this engine, I'd rather buy something that hasn't been in a car accident (Viking buys wrecked car engines and converts them)

    Is there any performance numbers with your 130 horsepower engine on the Ran's S-20?

      J P yes we have some we will be posting on our website soon all in its own page, he has 55 hours on his, another customer has an s20 with over 200 hours as well. They get around 120 normal cruise, but it has a fabric fuselage, wire braces tail, and metal wings. Max speed is over 130 level, and prop pitch is adjusted for happy medium between cruise and climb

    How does the O2 sensor work with leaded fuel🤔

      The engine is tuned using an O2 sensor. It is not used after that

    Perhaps hire a competent auto mechanic with sales experience? I had to stop at 2000 psi common rail fuel pressure. It would never run past idle that low.

      Yeah...but complexity reduces reliability and increases costs. Aviation engines...a whole different world than automotive.

    Of course Jan does not mention that these Honda and Mitsubishi engines come from a wrecked and totaled vehicle... Then purchased from a junkyard! That is where I have the issue... Jan needs to be open and honest about this and explain to the customer what they are actually getting is a gamble! Do some research on these engines and Jan before you spend your hard earned money! Jan is a great Salesman but you might as well take your $15k to Vegas and put it down on the craps table! Just bet black or red...

      Dirt Nerds No Slander my friend... Fact! I know because I have done my research on these engines, and Jan himself has stated that much in the past. Now he seems to fail to mention that these engines come from totaled vehicles! Do your research, and you will quickly find that Jan is a great salesman... of junk. Ask any of the Van's RV builders about Eggenfellner Subaru based engines... where many spent hundred's of thousands of dollars, and received either nothing or an engine that did not function properly! Jan simply filed bankruptcy and opened another company called Viking! From my first hand experience with Viking engines... They either work great or they do not work at all! Which makes sense considering they come from a wrecked and totaled vehicle! Like I said, it is a total crap shoot... do you have $15k to gamble with? Go for it! Taken from the Viking Forum...       This is what I found when I researched the engine VIN number on this Viking 130 (a converted 2015 Honda 1.5L L4 DOHC 16V i-VTEC).
      Vehicle Information:

      HATCHBACK 4 door
      1.5L L4 DIR DOHC 16V
      GASOLINE
      FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
      The car was purchased as a POV in September of 2014 from Crown Honda in Pinellas Park, FL. The car's title number by Florida Motor Vehicle Dept in Saint Petersburg, FL was 0116310064. It was owned and well maintained in Florida for 2 years 1 month and driven 11,750 miles until it was involved in an accident on October 24, 2016 resulting in a reported total loss. The accident was with another vehicle in which the left front of the car was primarily damaged leaving the car disabled and requiring tow. The front airbag deployed.
      What happens next is the magic of Viking Aircraft Engines

      Even better yet... I have a great test for you to see how well a Honda engine will work on your aircraft! Go to your local Honda dealer and ask for a test drive in a new or used manual Honda Fit. Take the vehicle out on the nearest highway and downshift to 3rd gear or so... Then just maintain 5,000+rpm at Highway speeds for as long as the Salesman will allow. I am sure that will not be that long... This is what your Honda based Viking engine will be doing in your aircraft 80+% of the time at cruise! These engines were designed to be installed in a vehicle, and not designed for this sort of operation in an Aircraft! Honda makes an excellent engine, as Jan loves to point out... however they were not designed for this sort of operation in an Aircraft! Jan also loves to talk about the ease of maintenance, however where are you going to find a Honda mechanic willing to work on your "aircraft" engine? How about finding an A&P who knows how to work on a Honda engine... good luck with that!

      @@flynic3 That's a nasty-sounding accident, but it wouldn't necessarily bend/damage the engine. I saw a totaled Renault that a friend bought the engine and gearbox off of, after a similar accident. My friend had insisted on seeing the engine in the accident car and removing it himself. Front-left damage, radiator split in three, left wheel arch almost folded in half. The engine was still sitting pretty on its rubber mounts, except one that had been bent laterally and broken off -- the mount screw was still tight on the engine. Not a scratch anywhere on it. The only alarming thing (discovered later) was the timing belt was a couple of teeth off, almost certainly caused by the accident (not unheard of). It's been running fine on his car for 4-5 years now, and it was over a decade old before the crash.
      A much bigger concern about using engines coming off of wrecked cars is if they're water-damaged...

      Spyros G That is all well and good for a car which can be pulled over to the side of the road if the engine dies... however in an aircraft you do not have that same luxury! When that engine quits you are going to have to find a place to land... quickly! These engines were designed to be installed and ran in a car, not an aircraft! You add to that non-existent R&D and the engine cores being pulled from a wrecked vehicle... you are only asking for an accident! I am glad your friend had good luck with his wrecked renault engine, but ask him if he would trust his life on that engine and install it in an aircraft!

      I was merely pointing out that finding out this accident information on an engine doesn't need to be a deal breaker. If I was buying it, I'd like to at least see pictures of it in the car, though.
