One wee note, the witches weren't held in the Renfrew Prison. It was in the Paisley Tolbooth, which once stood on the corner of Moss Street and the High Street. A chemist now stands on the site.
Ah, I went with what the old books said. Thanks for that x
@@scotlandshistory I have checked some of my Paisley history books. They mention the witches being murdered on the Gallow Green, but not where they were held. It does say on line that the second session was held in Paisley, which I'm guessing would be the tolbooth, as that was where the court room was.
Between us, we'll get the history of them sorted! x
@@scotlandshistory We will. It is very much locally said that they were held in the Tolbooth. But the fact that it is not mentioned in my books, or online, where they were held and tried annoys me.
There is a plague on the road at a crossroads thats where the last witches were hanged thousands of people drive over it every day! 😂 thanks for the video!
It is worth reminding ourselves that there were never any witches. Not in the sense that they could call up powers, or cast spells.
These people died because of ignorance and superstition.
@@janerkenbrack3373 I agree, and the church wanted absolute power over people, hence why ministers were so involved in these types of cases. Thank you so much for watching the video.
These people did die of ignorance and superstition, but there were witches, and still are, who have the ability to call up powers and cast spells.
@brendancoburn427 thank you so much for watching the video. There are certainly things that can't be explained.
@@brendancoburn427 That's silly. Really silly. Medieval superstitions that no one has ever been able to demonstrate.
What a ghastly story.but interesting. Seems so unfair to the victims. Thanks for posting
@@thomasmcloney1437 it was a dark time. Thank you so much for watching the video.

It was. Thank you so much for watching.
Bargarran
Thank you so much for watching the video.
@scotlandshistory you're very welcome, I attended Bargarran primary school so I'm familiar with the, as I knew it "Bargarran or Paisley" witches. There's also a street in Bargarran, Erskine named Shaw Court after Christian Shaw
@richiec9077 thanks for that. I didn't know about the street being named after her.

With History like this who needs Fiction? Thankyou
That's very true. Thank you so much for watching the video.
A wee telltale was Christian, her name belied any good that might have come from her.
She was. She cost these people their lives. I hope she eventually felt guilty. Thank you so much for watching x
Was my comment offensive , because its been removed?
No...this is the only comment showing up from you. That's a bit strange! x
It happens when a case is being collated against you. Your profile has been duplicated and you are being monitored, your comment screenshot then censored. The modern era's witch finder is onto you. Your card is no doubt marked; Far right. Good luck sister. I hope they never get round to processing the case against you.
Yes indeed it's all gone awry on the feed regarding redirection techniques. You'll probably not receive comments from me.
@@anvilbrunner.2013 that's weird! What on earth is going on?
@@scotlandshistory My comment to the lady here did not get to her. These are interesting times.
