Shuttle's Main Engines Installed for Final Planned Flight

  • Time-lapse video shows technicians at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida installing all three main engines on space shuttle Atlantis, the orbiter that next year will fly the final scheduled shuttle flight. On Dec. 7, space shuttle main engine 1 was installed onto Atlantis in Kennedy's Orbiter Processing Facility-1 (OPF-1). Engine 3 was transported from Kennedy's Space Shuttle Main Engine Shop to OPF-1 the same day. On Dec. 8, engine 3 was installed, and engine 2 was transported into Atlantis' processing hangar. On Dec. 9, engine 2 was installed.
