    Holy hell man, the BAG THROW. I was sitting there thinking 'i wonder how many takes that would have needed?', then to not react out of excitement when you got it, or break eye line with the camera, and say your lines with conviction and the right energy, and then BOOM. JACKET THROW.

      I kid you not, that was first try! I was actually rushing to finish so that I could meet up with my family and assumed this shot was going to take forever to get right. I was *supposed* to throw my keys away as well and forgot, but we were so happy with the first take that we just changed the ending to have the keys in the jacket and called it a day!

    OK, the shooting/editing on these videos are phenomenal.
    Been into photography for many years, and recently picked up video editing (I know, kinda a wierd combo, but there's plenty of overlap so I get the basic concepts)
    I just... see exactly what you are doing and get the basic sense for how you are doing it. Plain and simple, you barely have to say anything, you are showing it so well.

    Coverage, coverage, coverage! This is the main thing I try to impart when I teach my students in my film-making classes. There is no such thing as over shooting (provided you have the time and budget to do so) so I'm glad you mentioned it. For students new to film-making, they become so focused on the shot they think want that it stifles the flow of their film, not realizing that when it comes to the editing room unplanned shots often are the ones to save their film.

    I love using closeups as a replacement for establishing shots. If you cut to a home kitchen scene a closeup of water boiling I find a lot more interesting than an exterior of a house. Or a tirespinning shot from a car mount is just more intriguing than a panning shot of a car driving down the road

    Do you ever do storyboarding to plan a shoot? Also, when getting a wide, medium and close shot, are you using multiple cameras at one time or switching lenses?

    • @JesseDriftwood
      @JesseDriftwood  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never been a big storyboarder, but that’s mostly because I suck at drawing and I do my best work in the moment. However Dave and I have been planning out these videos a lot more than normal so we at least have a rough idea of what we’re going to shoot going into it.
      As for the sequences it’s almost always the same camera, and just moving/zooming/switching lenses and repeating the action for each take.
