Going with pressurized CO2 would likely be way more dangerous as he'd need a very large pressure tank and a huge quick release valve. If that pressure tank failed, it would not be fun. Here the gas is only pressurized during the explosion and it has so many escape holes that there's really no way to actually get hurt by an exploding pressure vessel.

The “too much power wasn’t too much power” bullet split at the 13:00 mark looks like it could have been from hitting the machinery next to the launcher as seen in the slo-mo following. You can see the one bouncing back across camera having a split in it just after ricocheting off the motor mount. 🤩
The "i only posted the good and exiting parts" segment, was the most important. Dont stop trying, there is so much which can go wrong, but when it works it feels so damn good even with all of the fail moments.... a bit like defeating a dark souls boss xD Thank you so much for your work and passion. Very inspirational = )
11:53. I'm not sure how your inserting the hydrogen. But remember hydrogen is the smallest/lightest molecule. So any gap in your container will allow the hydrogen to escape first. And since you longer have plungers in your syringes I'm willing to bet it's escaping that way
Your explanation and talking to yourself with narration and responding is just so, so engaging. You’re one of my favorite creators now - I bet you’ll blow up! Congrats on the kid :)
Nerf Nuke has always been that fun april fools joke to call back. Someone made a 3D printable version to at least recreate the iconic look but this is exciting to see. Looking forward to part 2! I would like to use this in my next Nerf war.
What you need is a stopper that has a latch that will release once the dart has fully (or almost) the tube. That way, once the dart is out, the gases will be forced to go to another tube. Make sure you have a release valve for this for when all darts are exited though.
Loved the piece in the middle about not giving up even when you don’t feel good or when things are working against you (obviously you said it way more poetically). Got me hyped up, sometimes people really need to hear and see that especially on social media where usually only the positive moments are shown.
This literally works the same way as the OTs-38 Stechkin silent revolver. I can’t believe that a Russian spy revolver works the same way as a nerf nuke 💀

as someone who knows what it feels like to constantly be criticized and doubted by everyone also being a highly creative person I'll tell you truthfully that you are doing an exceptionally terrific job from starting idea to finish product using the limited tools that you have to improvise adapt and overcome the obstacles that challenge you along the journey of creation you are awesome!!!
I’d always wanted a Nerf Nuke® as a kid and was sorely disappointed when it wasn’t real. Years later, I can finally rest easy knowing someone made one.
What are the odds! I've watched a handful of your videos and didn't realize who you are. I used to work with Charles doing home building, and cabinetry. Your dad painted houses for us too. What a small world
3:21 I think all you needed was probably a little plastic flap that the nerf dart displaces and maybe some elastic or a spring. The pressure inside would make it seal reasonably well. Maybe would have ended up a more boring project.
If you wrap the foam part with clear packing tape, it will withstand much higher pressures. We used to wrap them in a single layer of tape as kids to make them slightly heavier. They would shoot further that way.
21:42 instantly subbed and will be watching all your content. I needed this man, I've been telling myself what you said here for years and you summed it up beautifully. Great work.
I often feel the same way. It's good to know that even someone as successful as Joel struggles with the same stuff. It makes me feel less alone in the struggle and really makes his content feel that much more authentic. I have a wonderfully supportive wife who's helping me get better at fighting back against all the negative shit my brain likes to come up with, but it's not easy, and I do fall back into old thought patterns sometimes. You just have to do your best to catch yourself when it happens and tell your brain to shut up and f off with the negativity.

They don't specify that it's an exclusive or. That would be Nerf XOR Nothing. It could, in fact, be both when it's Nerf OR Nothing.
@@deadlylaigrek In real life, outside of programming or circuits, all ors, are xors.
@@deadlylaigrek XOR is short for exclusive or, and in this context the or is exclusive
@@AndrewMalkin That's just linguistic cowardice. You could choose to be a hero and use xor in regular conversation.
@@deadlylaigrek What you refer to as an OR in programming/circuits is an and/or in language
It looks so soo good from a product design standpoint. Probably the closest nerf nuke to something you would see in stores. The fact that it works too is almost a bonus
engineering youtubers always end up making low power actual guns
nearly every one has gotten police to come to their doors for building guns or flamethrowers i swear
there's low power actual guns and then there's "i did a thing" level low power guns
@@FurqanHun
and then there is styropyro litterally making star trek weapons.
@@darkracer1252 we don't talk about it, i did a thing, and styropyro makes friendly toy projectile/cool lights 😊
@cameronhumphries2377 it's a right of passage, just like how all the good chemistry channels get investigated by the FBI
17:45. Factory worker bro, factory worker. You're thinking like an artist, who thinks he is thinking like a factory worker, which I love...don't stop.
22:30 The editting on "What the f-" "..Inally, some real progress." was immaculate.
I love how the 4 dart testing core works as an analog of the demon core way too well
The “too much power wasn’t too much power” bullet split at the 13:00 mark looks like it could have been from hitting the machinery next to the launcher as seen in the slo-mo following. You can see the one bouncing back across camera having a split in it just after ricocheting off the motor mount. 🤩
I'm so so happy that Trevor Moore's gift of that WKUK scetch will keep his memory alive for so much longer!
17:26 Joel describing exactly how to put syringes into the tube like we're about to go make our own nuke :)
lmao wife went into labor, anyway check out this beautiful miracle of a metal tube with holes in it
The "i only posted the good and exiting parts" segment, was the most important.
Dont stop trying, there is so much which can go wrong, but when it works it feels so damn good even with all of the fail moments.... a bit like defeating a dark souls boss xD
Thank you so much for your work and passion.
I love the video man. I’m only at. 7:26 but this does look like you’re about to write the sequel to the industrial society and it’s future
Nerf Nuke has always been that fun april fools joke to call back. Someone made a 3D printable version to at least recreate the iconic look but this is exciting to see. Looking forward to part 2!
I would like to use this in my next Nerf war.
You will get my vote
100% respect that you keep your kids faces out of the videos. LOVE that you got him a matching hat to do it.
Congratulations on the new baby 😊
I've never seen anything like this. You're showing me something intertaning while also teaching me science. I love this keep rocking man
What you need is a stopper that has a latch that will release once the dart has fully (or almost) the tube.
22:35 "what the... finally some real progress" got me rolling on the floor 😂
This literally works the same way as the OTs-38 Stechkin silent revolver. I can’t believe that a Russian spy revolver works the same way as a nerf nuke 💀
20:43 "I wanna do hydrogen"... a scientist at Los Alamos, ...in the 50's.
it worked!
This is the first time I’ve seen this channel. You have a family of collaborative geniuses! That is awesome
22:00 You shouldnt be afraid to give an encouraging word, you never know if its exactly what someone needed to hear at that moment.
I needed to hear that.
youtube decided to show me the WKUK skit just yesterday, so I was well prepared for this
as someone who knows what it feels like to constantly be criticized and doubted by everyone also being a highly creative person I'll tell you truthfully that you are doing an exceptionally terrific job from starting idea to finish product using the limited tools that you have to improvise adapt and overcome the obstacles that challenge you along the journey of creation you are awesome!!!
What a small world
21:55 I'm sorry to hear that man, you do a good job of seeming upbeat in the videos!
“I am become nerf destroyer of nothing”
3:21 I think all you needed was probably a little plastic flap that the nerf dart displaces and maybe some elastic or a spring. The pressure inside would make it seal reasonably well. Maybe would have ended up a more boring project.
Oppenheimer
Nerf Smart AR system
My thoughts precisely
That’s how the multi dart guns work, the use little valves that shut as soon as a dart is not fully installed
Saw video title, clicked video. Pausing video so I can watch the Whitest Kids U Know skit about the Nerf Nuke. BRB. Edit: Watched the video, come back and you cite that extact video. Nice.
Congrats on the newborn. What you’ve done is quite impressive and even more given the circumstances.
Oppenheimer producers went radio silent after this video dropped

Thanks for letting me wait for a part 2
Imagine if someone made a HUGE NUKE with YOUR NERF NUKES, it would be an absolute destroyer
Don’t give ideas for a literal nerf cluster nuke 😂😂
22:32 that was a GREAT cut lmao.
Here's your sub, man. Ready for that part 2!
This will be a great toy for your kiddo to experience when they're old enough! Congrats on being a dad!
You should reach out to WKUK and see if any of them want to come out for part 2!
lmao at your brother having an "Oppenheimer" moment at 22:20. "Now I am become Nerf, destroyer of worlds"
Although slightly annoying, its smart putting the launch into a part 2. I think this video had enough "closure" since we got to see the final design without feeling cut short just for a part 2.
27:35 trinity test
IM SO EXCITED FOR PART 2 AHHHH🎉🎉 CONGRATS ON THE BABY 2
Your videos are always incredible to watch: the attention to detail throughout the whole thing is always so pleasing.
Also congratulations on not accidentally making a nerf pipe bomb 👌
Congrats on the beautiful baby, and the human one too.
This is my first video of yours ive watched. Last month i was hit pretty hard by an illness and it shocked my body so bad that managing my blood sugars (im Type 1 diabetic) has been incredibly challenging and a constant worry. It may sound cheesy, but you mentioning not giving up or when things feel hopeless they're not hit at a really good time with my anxieties and my mortality being faced in a way it hadnt since i was first diagnosed more than half my life ago
That sounds tough, but you sound tougher
I just realized that a nerf dart is the same caliber as a M2 Browning .50 Cal machine gun. I HAVE AN IDEA
