      It’s funny that Minty brought up that trivia that Henry Winkler turned down John Travolta’s part and had no regrets about doing so, because Travolta turned down Forrest Gump and he said that that was 1 of his biggest regrets

      I was thinking it was a finishing school technique.. but used in an. Urban setting.. as in passed from mother/sister to daughter/sister.
      However I'm stemming towards mother being that a generational thing or perhaps it was a trend that was brought over from finishing schools to the more common environment.. or maybe from a "girls magazine" as a tip for better living.. blah blah blah

      That's a great way to remember her by. I'm a retired police officer, 6'2", 215, competed in all sports, still ski, hunt, horse back riding and training, can throw bales of hay across our barn etc., but I loved this movie and watched it all the time with my second daughter all thru her childhood. This and Moulin Rouge. Her friends just couldn't believe that someone like me (I don't want to say manly but you get the picture) would not only watch these two movies with her but know every word of every song. Like you after I'm gone I hope (and know) that she'll remember watching Grease with me all those years. I apologize for the lengthy response but I know exactly how you feel.

The original one came out the same year that I was born, so I never had the chance to see it in a movie theater. I had that opportunity when it was was rereleased in the movie theater on it's 20th anniversary in 1998. I also grew up listening to Olivia Newton John's music as a little kid. My mom would watch her HBO concert in the early 80's over and over. She will definitely be missed. She had it all. It was still a thing when I was in school in the late 70s. Finishing school wasn't a thing in my neighborhood but occasionally the posture exercises would pop up in teen magazines and would spur the craze anew.
      My school district provided books for our classes for free (on loan) and would distribute outdated textbooks for free (to keep, if wanted) to any who wanted. Hi, Minty, I'm from Argentina. About the title in the spanish version, I don't think it was a translation error, since vaseline was sometime a common product for hair with the same purpose of that grease. Also it was known as "gomina" or "fijador" ( fixative). I think Vaselina was the right choice. I send you a hug and keep doing this great work. I never miss your videos. Chauuuu! 🖖😊

    Two interesting points: #1 the Bee Gee's broke records and had the longest running #1 songs on the Billboard list and wad eventually taken out by one song, a song ironically written by Barry Gibb "Grease". #2 is the fan theory that "Sandy" actually drowned in the opening and that "Danny" wasn't able to save her and the events depicted in the movie were all in his mind, a fantasy to help him cope with the fact that the girl he'd just met and was to be the love of his life had died tragically.

      I for one tend to regard this film as a _dream film_ , by Sandy, the point-of-view character. But, the "afterlife" theory sounds plausible, too (since the car flies into the air at the end, and it is not a sci-fi picture, the premise would have to be narrowed down to either AFTERLIFE or DREAM).

    • @chul074
      @chul074 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard slightly different, that only Sandy passed. She hit her head on the rock, didn't make it and the entire movie is her eulogy. Which as an adult the movie (morbidly) makes a lot of sense! Now that Minty tells us about Travolta doing Conaway's song, yes, in Sandra's mind Danny would be everything. The stuff that doesn't make sense would if it was all a dream. I'm glad Mrs Olivia was able to keep her accent because it gave a different life (singled out) and for her eulogy why fake a bad accent when it's not you.

      They can say whatever they like, I guess. Like saying that actually everyone in the movie was an alien in disguise. It doesn't mean that thing they said was part of the screenplay or something that was intentionally thought about during the making of the film. They might have even just been having a bit of fun and saying the theory was true just for a laugh, or because it doesn't really matter because it doesn't change the film (but just changes a few people's perceptions of the film who believe them).

      @@alexp601 I agree. The alien thing is new too me though; can't get with that one.
