- After a brief Christmas hiatus, Barney Bob is BACK to jump straight into this 160 year old time capsule buried behind a long-forgotten stage stop saloon/hotel. Without spoiling it too much, I'll just say that this episode is "spicy" and then leave the rest up to your imagination because it's 2am and my hands are covered in blood and dirt and I can't type anymore. But this video is awesome, I swear !!

You know what’s so appealing about your videos Ned? The SMALL TALK and chit chat between friends about BOTTS! It’s just like being there with you guys. It’s never boring- it’s what makes your videos brilliant. That and the great characters you dig with, and the amazing stories you tell of the history of the bottles you find. Just SUPERB.

In our recent video (not the latest upload, but the one prior) we dug 4 broken insanely rare threadless Tillotson insulators. EVERY DIGGER knows the feeling of seeing extremely RARE bottle pieces- a bottle that they KNOW there is unlikely to be another in that dump and this one’s broken!
Luckily, I was fortunate enough to find the broken parts of, and then a whole example of the rarest local bottle 20 years ago here in Scotland. And I still have it on display in my living room. A rare stone ginger beer bottle from Kelso & Galashiels towns in the Scottish Borders. I shook physically when I found it and was still shaking a full 20 mins later!👍🇬🇧

Lime deficient glass will alter faster than glasss with more Ca and alumina, and or iron, sodium is the main flux , but it need to be stablized with Calcium and a bit of alumina , I bet the sand used on the west coast was granitic so it had lot of alumina in it and a healthy dose of Iron and the right amount of Ca

I'm in Tennessee and metal detect I just got a permission through a construction company for a 1920s house. Not that old but should still have a privvy right?
Depends on when the area got sewered! I’ve seen privy pits out here from the 30s (because of the great depression)

Wow you guys are digging some amazing pieces of shards. Unfortunately nothing was whole other than the spice botts. The spice bottles are stunning though. I've never seen an embossed spice bott until watching your video. Does making colored glass make it weaker than the normal aqua bottle? What do you do with the shards from bottles that are rare? I do need to get in touch with you concerning the spice jars. One day Ned you will find one of these precious bottles whole. Keep on digging and making videos, I love it...

They were circulated widely in any of the western states !
When I've not a handy hammer I've used a nearby brick..ive the smashed fingers to prove it😬😁

Move your midden. Or schools, Ifound many Master Inks not far from the 1848 Pohukaina School. I found my only excellent Western spice, early '70s, by Max Bell's book. So if I get per mission at South and Pohukaina I get chance at the 1850s-'90s. I found a lot of stoneware master inks, a Carters, P&J Arnold London. There were others that were stone inks w/o spouts. That guy is clearly annoyed by waving that bone at his face, but to polite, or stoked to say anything. Dr. Grossman's Specific Mixture was a Gonorrhea cure. I've dug one, at Kakaako.
