    I always use your videos when I'm tinkering with chainsets. Came to youtube in search of this question and you have a video explaining perfectly. Thanks from Lancashire.

    Thank you Very Much! It helps a lot to resolve my pain when you can't say if new big cassette will work or not.

    Thanks Sir. Very helpful for me this video. Since I would like to plan saving cost upgrade 11-32t without changing my ss rd. This soft my worrying. Appreciated for sharing this issue for us.

    You could use a Wolftooth Roadlink too if your RD is a short cage. It's what I'm doing.

    gap for b screw with a 11-32 with 50-34

  • @chadruttan5304
    @chadruttan5304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So to get this straight in my head. You can have a 50-34 compact with an 11-28 r7000 and all you have to do is swap to the 11-32 and only adjust the b screw. No new chain and I can keep my rd5800 short cage.

    Why did you go 11-32, better hill climbing ability? What are your crank length and any input on 105 DI2, or is it better to go Ultegra? Great vids! 👍

    new 8050 derailleurs support up to 30T so i think 32 t will be no problem.

    Do you think I could get away using a 11-34 cassette on a similar setup (50/34) or would it be best to get a GS derailleur?

    Great advice as always,l have the old 105 10 speed on my trek ,5700 l think currently with a 28 does it work on the old 5700 also?
    Cheers.

      Yes, 32T will work fine as long as you use a 50T or 52T chainring. Just turn the B-screw a bit as described here. You do not have to adjust chain length. Ride on!

    good video ..Im looking to do the same thing to my bike ( Trek Alpha 2.1) , ill need a new derailer anyway as mine is well used and a new chain as its suggested . Would it be wise to go to a med derailer instead of the short since i have to change it out anyway ? thx

    • @FreeToCycle

      Yes a medium cage would be optimal.

    Hi there! Thanks for the video, really helpful!
    Right now I have an Ultegra R8000 (short cage) with 11-25 and a 52-36 in front. I would like to put a 11-32. Since the change is 'big', should I install a longer chain?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @thenoodlehunter6828
      @thenoodlehunter6828 ปีที่แล้ว

      I work on bikes. Long answer is, it depends how your chain was sized. The problem with a chain that's too short I discovered is that you won't be able to use the full range rear cassette sprockets while on the big chain ring because the spring "maxes out on tension", so arm that holds the jockey wheels won't be able to make the shift cause the chains too short to handle the amount of tension.
      Short Answer: Just swap the cassette out, and you'll know your chains' too short if you can't move to the final larger rear sprockets when it gets jammed.

    I have 48-32 chainrings, could I use an 11-34 sprocket on a short 105 shift leg?

    Is it possible to just change the cage in case a longer one is requires to work with a bigger cassette?

    • @FreeToCycle
      @FreeToCycle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is possible! But the derailleurs are actually different in that the part of the body next to the guide pulley is slightly longer on a GS derailleur! You can notice it with two derailleurs side by side.
