- Dr. Kevin E. James joined Morris Brown College as interim president in 2019, with only 20 students, $35 million bankruptcy filing and no accreditation. Today, this Atlanta HBCU has full accreditation, growing enrollment, the largest graduating class in 20 years, and a $40 million Hilton hotel being built on campus for a hospitality management program. Dr. James has taken the school from The Hard Reset to The Hard Resurgence. The transformative leader from Columbia, S.C. discusses his passion for educating young adults, his roots in a family of educators, and the value of HBCUs in today's ever-changing landscape.
He has done a great job for Morris brown college as the president. Congrats to the staff at Morris brown college.
Glad to see Morris Brown on the comeback trail. Know a few alumni who are excited about it also. GO WOLVERINES!
The AUC is NOW complete! Now, I’m waiting for the future band, football, track and basketball team to return. The Greeks (Devine 9) are making their way back 💙. Morris Brown needs to concentrate on building juxtaposed bringing student housing back on campus with the goal of recapturing or leasing land, which MBC doesn’t have anymore👍🏿🏈🏀🎼🎶🎬🎤🎵🎥📚👑🙏🏿 As a graduate of Morehouse, who studied at Morris Brown and Clark Atlanta towards my PhD., I’m one of a few that attended 3 of the AUC schools💯.
They don't need to bring back any sports that can not pay for itself, as that was part of the problem why Morris Brown got into financial problems. Morris Brown no longer have the rights to the football field and land it set on. When they tried to sell it, it was found out via a lawsuit by CAU, that the land was only lease to Morris Brown by CAU. When Morris Brown tried to sell it, then that trigger a clause that gave the land and stadium back to CAU. From my understanding, the first sport at Morris Brown will be soccer as a club sport (which is going to be fully funded by sponsorships). Based on an earlier interview the plan is to figure out what buildings can be saved, cheaper to fix, and what buildings need to be demolish and new buildings built. I am glad to see Morris Brown back and I am looking for the hotel, as it seems that NCCU is going to be doing the same thing on a smaller scale once funding for the new building is found (it will be right next to the new business school building).
@@EyeOfTheWatcher Stop the lies! Sports was NOT the reason Morris Brown got into financial trouble. It was the 1st FEMALE PRESIDENT that mismanaged MBC and accreditation was lost because of it. Now, you are correct about the land, CAU & MBC. The courts ruled in CAU’s favor and the land was reverted back to CAU per its original $1.00 agreement. CAU is land rich. They own more land than all the AUC schools. As MY POSITION stands, SPORTS need to return to Morris Brown even if just Track & Field juxtaposed Basketball. MBC has a new President vs. previous ones, and he said sports will return just as D9 has returned and guess what? They have over 430 students now. I have love for MBC having attended two years, undergraduate from Morehouse, and studied at Clark Atlanta for my Ph.D📚👀💯👍🏿🙏🏿.
