what an intelligent interviewee Hal Rubenstien is. finally someone is not talking only about fashion, but also the impact on society and everything that goes with it. Love him!
I don't understand why Mindy's dress is not getting more attention. I totally agree with Hal, it was one of the best. It referenced the crystal roses and the fact that the garden of time is cyclical.
The same designer did a very similar dress in deep blue for Cardi B. several years ago. Mindy's dress was architecturally beautiful, but it was a rehash.
I love Mindy's dress so much. It is so difficult to do those three things : match the theme, have a beautiful outfit and be strinking. She got it all so perfectly. Also, Zendaya's bouquet hat and attitude was like she owned the place. Amazing.
Kim's sweater was NOT a wardrobe malfunction... John Galiano has a long history of playing with how fabrics decay. This shines through very strongly in his last margiela show. It's a sweater made of boiled wool recreating how someone's favourite sweater changes over time. The pilling on the sweater is what happens when you wash any kind of wool many times. And a so called well loved safety sweater represents that as well. The story goes that she had spent the night at her lovers place and ran home through the woods in the morning. Before she left she took her lovers sweater with her as it was cold. If you don't understand the whole back story I see why many people mistake it as a wardrobe malfunction, however anyone who is somewhat interested in fashion has seen margielas last show and would understand this.
Wait, the men had a decent display this year. Not just some dude being handsome wearing black shoes with a beige suit. We had Bad Bunny, Charlie Hunan, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Ben Simmons. All had so much more to offer than a Hemsworth brother.
I'm so tired of people tearing down outfits and turning the whole thing into a "look at my good taste. These celebs have horrible taste" contest TH-cam and social media have become regarding the gala. Nice to see someone simply analyze the clothes relating to the theme and it's not about splitting attendees into winners and losers in such a loud way. Thank you for this analysis
"We don't borrow. We buy," is my favorite quote that came from all this. Law Roach said it in an interview regarding the abuse of borrowing all this craftsmanship, creativity, and manpower rather than buying it; then Zendaya came with 3 looks!
In a way somewhat delighted that some seemed confused. And hooray for those that took the time to really embrace the magic behind Awakening the Sleepy Beauties. Now it's time for the Met Gala to define the rules and demand respect, etiquette, decorum for the event to add all staff and ones who participate.
Janelle Monae, for my money, got the Garden of Time side of the equation best. Her Vera Wang dress used recycled plastic to form the crystal flowers, indicating both creativity and decay.
Mona Patel's Iris van Herpen gown had clockwork which was a great take, too. It was also nice to see butterflies illustrating the garden motif rather flowers.
Kim K's outfit was not a wardrobe malfunction. The idea was that she was in love and had the best night of her life in a garden with her lover. When she woke up the next morning, her hair was a mess and she wanted to cover up because it was morning, so she grabs her lovers sweater and left. Love it or hate it, it was not a wardrobe malfunction...it was very intentional. She did a Vogue getting ready for the Met and tried on the sweater and took pics.
exactly and also the sweater is a nod to the Margiela Artisanal collection where the models had the same sweaters and were playing with them the same way. Really surprises me that many fashion-like people didnt know this.
Kim explained that her look had something to do with walking up in the garden and running off or something like that wearing her boyfriends cardigan. So the hair and cardigan were intentional
I thought the sweater for Kim was about how things get old and fall apart. It was pilled and made to look old. I just assumed that was in keeping with the theme, but I've never heard anyone confirm this. I thought the sands of time dress was very clever and looked great, unique.
Tiffany & Co is 100% trying to capitalize on the fact millennial fashion is circling back around & Tiffany jewelry was the IT thing to have. They’re just making sure everyone is aware it’s the IT thing to have AGAIN 😂😂
@@kcloveonaleash glad someone else caught that!!! Maybe it’s just because of my age & I remember being a teen that was DYING to have a Tiffany necklace like Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, all of them back in the early 2000’s. 😂😂
Zendaya's first look was definitely John Galliano but from his Spring 1999 collection, not from his last epic show for Maison Margiela. And Kim Kardashian was clutching a cardigan reminiscent of the clutching of cardigans in the same Maison Margiela show. He should have caught both of those references.
So Cardi's jewelry was "gaudy" but turns around and compliments J. Lo's (although I loved it). 🤔 Did he miss the other celebs with necklines covered in jewels? Like Demi Moore for example? 🤔😒
Loved and appreciate his explanation of the theme, but he was rude towards Cardi B. This whole event is an attention seeking night so why single her out and her jewelry was on the same level as others 😒
I am so glad he mentioned Kim because so many people act like it wasn’t right. The cardigan though was actually part of the look. It wasn’t a wardrobe issue. It’s so irritating that so many people dismiss Kim when she actually was one of the only ones that was on theme. Which it’s funny that people would think she of all people wouldn’t research considering she knows everyone loves to nit pick her.

Zendaya actually wore Three great ensembles for this one Met Gala. Give her a job and she goes the extra mile. Superb!

Zendaya and her stylist wrote an essay describing her character for the Met Gala. So you are right she’s playing a role and it’s fantastic!
glad we all agree that zendaya ate
Wait, the men had a decent display this year. Not just some dude being handsome wearing black shoes with a beige suit. We had Bad Bunny, Charlie Hunan, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Ben Simmons. All had so much more to offer than a Hemsworth brother.
Jeff Goldblum was outstanding
Lana Del Rey always delivers! 10/10
Alia Bhatt looks so so Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️.

Tyla looked phenomenal.
"it became the world's most elaborate clown show", 😂😂😂😂😂 true

Anyone else find the fact that all the celebs were in the pretty flowers and the grim theme of the plebes rising to overtake them ironic?
In a way somewhat delighted that some seemed confused. And hooray for those that took the time to really embrace the magic behind Awakening the Sleepy Beauties.

Great interview. Exciting and informative.

Alia Bhatt. Mona Patel.
gustav the fisherman proved u can buy ur way into the met, , many have and do...
Why shouldn't be be there?
So glad the theme was explained. Thank you
Sure ignore Alia Bhatt… her outfit and look was THE best… western hypocrites not even acknowledging her
Alia Bhatt hands down looking best with the Saree...n mona Patel too❤️
Exactly!!
What am I looking at on the wall behind him? OMG 🤣😁😆😂
My 1st Met Gala. Suppress my gag reflex. This Forbes guy nailed it. Just a rando cosplay of egos. B,C,D lists.

Still looked a mess and not polished. She needed another look.

Nicki Minaj stole the show! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Zendaya always wows every year , but this year she was magnificent ! ♥️
To me Zendaya was the most memorable in her blue-green
Belleza ❤ presente en este gran evento Met Gala

i definitely agree so much with him. great explanation
best dressed for the theme: harris reed, jordan roth, mona patel, chloe sevigney, tyla, emma chamberlain, gwendoline christie.
Dude why you all ignore Alia Bhatt...She looked the best n surreal
@@pranjalkasar2318nop. She looked beautiful but the dress was carrying her not the otherway.
The sweater was supposedly referring to some pilled sweater show that emphasized the way fabric changes and decays over time. See Haute Le Mode.
Emma and Alia
The Kim cardigan look is inspired by the recent ENTIRE studios collections, the corset hoodie look is meant to accentuate the waist
Alia Bhatt was by far the best in terms of adhering to the memo. And gorgous too...

So good to see Hal again!! He’s a class act from way back! He is spot on!
“ world’s most elaborate clown show” Spot On!
He is so right Cardi has to always draw attention to her self.
Nicki Minaj killed her look… that’s why she is rated number one in most magazines
Doja was doing her own thing 😂
looked desperate
@@krishniarumugam But she kinda brought the feeling of nakedness the common people probably felt the the book as the drew closer to the vila. 🤷🏽♀️😂
she so cuckoo
Kim said it was “supposed to be her boyfriends sweater, that she grabbed last minute after a night of romping in the garden 😂
So Cardi's jewelry was "gaudy" but turns around and compliments J. Lo's (although I loved it). 🤔 Did he miss the other celebs with necklines covered in jewels? Like Demi Moore for example? 🤔😒
Hey ExtraTv, I enjoy the videos however, the music at the END of almost all of your Met Gala videos is enough to make a person’s ears ring! TOO LOUD.
The pilling on Kim’s sweater was a demonstration of the passage of time. It was part and parcel of the theme.
Thank you for showing Sebastian Stan!
Bad Bunny was dressed interestingly at the met.
I don't understand how wearing a crystal dress or being half naked met the theme? Kim K??
Can’t believe they didn’t talk about Nicki Minaj smh 😂
It did too disappoint
This viewer would love for Forbes Magazine to create a News Cover Story on the the Magical Jazzy Pop Vocalist & Songwriter of Ms. Angelina Jordan
I miss Joan Rivers
Tyla
So anybody can be at Met as long as u pay the price 😂😂
I think not really because Anna Wintour still makes the final decision who get to be there.
Loved and appreciate his explanation of the theme, but he was rude towards Cardi B. This whole event is an attention seeking night so why single her out and her jewelry was on the same level as others 😒
7:51 Kim explained it on Vogue. It was quite clear if they had researched. She had a narrative for the style 💜💙💚💖
Kim's dress looked much better on paper as a sketch. Kim's severe cartoonish body did nothing for the dress and the look.
Mommy, daddy, what's an Adult Film Star? And why is she with the former President?
overall, the most vulgar, exhibitionist circus that would make clowns seem refined. The fall of the Roman Empire seems Victorian, by comparison. Yuck!

Block Block Block
not one Asian star or dresses they covered wow
Are they vampires?
lol, just maybe, some are for sure devil worshippers
doja cat
Yes clown show!!
Kk shrug was paen to former creations and degradation of fabric , reflected in the pilling.
disgusting😢
