    Let's go! Tom has been one of my favorite athletes ever since he burst onto the scene with his western states debut!

    Wooo some trail runner action! I love seeing the training within the various "sub-disciplines" of running. Try getting someone who attempts BIG mountain trailhead to summit FKTs on the channel. It'd be neat to see how they approach training for a trail with sections of 500-1000ft of gain per mile over highly technical terrain at 10000+ ft of altitude.

    Really cool - coverage of trail running :D .
    Tom had more to say than most trail runners do as well. Thank you :)

    Fantastic video Matt. Glad to hear about the partnership with Nick. He’s got tremendous enthusiasm and I have no doubt it shines through in his coaching. Tom is a class guy and deserves this attention. Lastly, did Angus survive those busy Ethiopian roads? Scary traffic

    Wings for Life has been in Perth and Melbourne Matty. Melbourne was around the CBD in the early days ( Mike Wardian won it ) and then it moved to the Monash Freeway starting at Toorak Rd. One of the worlds best and most iconic events and obviously a very good cause. I'm hoping it'll come back. Best fun. Only issue, 9pm start on a Sunday night ( to link up with the rest of the world as we all ran at the exact same time )

    The workout: 3 x 4km (2.5mi) (approx) with 3-4min jogging recovery. Each 4km has around 150m (500ft) of elevation gain/loss.🥵

    Tom seems like a real genuine guy... I wonder which shoe he prefers. The Speed Ultra or the 'unnamed' trail shoe (looks like a Boston 10/Pro).

    I think he would get a personal invite to Barkleys - I think he would stand a good chance of completing it as well . Special Talent to say the least

    • @jameschaves5723
      @jameschaves5723 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are underestimating Barkleys

  • @agnidas5816
    @agnidas5816 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    He glides so well on the straight aways and uphill - little leg movement and yet he is flying forward. Really solid midfoot landing and a strong core and he just falls forward instead of downwards with gravity some how. Body is a bit assymmetrical so he compsensates with his arms. Probably since the surgery...
    Worried about his triceps though. Statistically ultra marathon runner standings are strongly correlated to upper arm circumference (regardless of bodyfat - at elite levels)
    He looks more like a 5km guy than a 100miler ... and it matters when you're in the top 10 mix

    • @mattmckee6145
      @mattmckee6145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is triceps size going to help him run faster over 100 miles?

    • @rampage1710
      @rampage1710 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biceps win races 💪🏼

    • @MrJlambo54
      @MrJlambo54 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattmckee6145 More mass = more weight to carry, and your arms aren't doing much to help you run faster. Bigger arms mean you're just carrying more weight for longer, resulting in slower times.

    • @mattmckee6145
      @mattmckee6145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrJlambo54 I understand that but I don't think looking at Tom that is going to be his limiting factor. Also arm carriage is important and having muscular balance in the upper body is not a bad thing (obviously within reason). I am sure he's not in the gym doing triceps extensions etc but some basic horizontal and vertical pushing and pulling with dumbbells isn't going to produce crazy hypertrophy. Better muscle balance and arm carriage could lead to more efficient running also. All a matter of opinion but he's obviously not in the gym trying to maximise growth with isolation exercises (I would hope). If he doesn't run well it's not going to be because he's got slightly bigger triceps 😂

    • @terencenicolasgo2040
      @terencenicolasgo2040 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not a bad thing.. not a limiting factor it’s not like short distances that . Something seconds are the differences. Doesn’t really matter. If he’s healthy and get his nutrition right on the race day. He will be doing well in upcoming Utmb
