Don't worry mate, I regularly spend time talking to myself whilst filling my face with snacks.

Kintsugi is what you were referring to when you mentioned repairing broken pottery with gold!

I bet you felt terrible when you realized the camera was off, it's not like you can just pick up and restart something like this.
For that reason I just wanted to take the time to let you know your video still turned out great, both me and my wife really enjoyed watching it together. Keep up the great work.

Getting part-way through a video - or even worse, all the way to the end - and then realizing that you forgot to start recording on the camera or the audio is a creator's worst nightmare, especially if it's something that can't be repeated/re-recorded, like eating something you only have one of 😂 But it's something every creator faces if they've been doing this for long enough, and you just learn to roll with the punches haha. Thank you for your very kind words, I'm glad it didn't detract from the video, and I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed it 😊

Hi Nick! I wanted to offer some help with pronunciation.
I think the fastest way to get a handle on it is to understand that Japanese uses a phonetic alphabet. Consonants don't exist by themselves (with the exception of "n") and are always paired with a vowel. What's more, there are only 5 vowel sounds: a (ah), i (ee), u (oo),* e (eh), o (oh). So "arare" would reads like "ah ra reh"... Your instinct was pretty spot on! A more accurate pronunciation of the "R" sound in Japanese is like a mix between an English "L", "D" and "R", produced by flicking the tongue against the front teeth. I think of it like the beginning sensation of rolling an "R". (A common word you can hear this sound in is "arigatou".)
Each character also gets its own beat, so the word "hitoike" becomes "hee toh ee keh".
Occasionally, you will see double consonants in Japanese but these represent a glottal stop. If you ever compare the hiragana/katakana characters to the English, you will notice that any word that has double consonants features a small "tsu": っ/ッ
*In my experience this "oo" sound is closer to an English "oo" (with a hint of an "uh" like in truth) than a pure vowel "oo" like you would see in Italian.
Hope this helps and I hope you have a fantastic time in Japan!
Edit: My apologies if this is rambling. I was very sleepy watching this, but only just perked up when you asked for help.
Edit 2: I just realized they romanized the "Hitoiki Cafe" in the guide incorrectly. 😂The characters on the package are ひといき or "hitoiki" (hee toh ee kee).
Edit 3: My kanji is very rusty but I believe that the character on the dish is "fuku".

This is probably the most helpful thing I've ever read about Japanese pronunciation, thank you!! This will absolutely help me figure out pronunciations in future, whether with these snack boxes, or in Japan! Thank you for taking the time to help me out :D
