    You make speed running HL look soo easy and fun!!
    It's NOT easy! and NOT fun for me! The amount of skill you need is just insane.
    nice run tho!

    Very nice!! GG!
    Sometimes I'm like.. Wtf are these terms he's speaking of. Like What's going on, haha.
    I enjoyed the commentary and the gameplay was so satisfying to watch!
    Does the game intentionally lag at times? Is it just an half life thing? A pc thing? Speedrun thing?
    Edit
    By lag I meant more like fps drops (and not talking about loading zones ofc)

      yooooo thanks so much!
      Just some additional info first; the main category for speedrunning this game is the 2005 WON scriptless version www.speedrun.com/hl1 (though there is a steam version category with a separate leaderboard) . The main differences are that in the 2005 WON version, the speedcap is 2000 units per second, whereas the steam version has a speedcap of around 550 or something. This just means that once you exceed these speeds, the game will slow you back down. Also for the WON version, our fps is not allowed to exceed 100, but for the steam version it has no fps cap. (you can see my fps in the top left corner)
      For half-life 1, the fps is tied with the game physics (i'm not sure what the technical term is), but we are allowed to have binds to lower our fps values below 100 which turns out to be very useful. I will explain each fps value bind and why/where it is used.
      fps_max 100: Most of the time we are on 100 fps because it makes bunnyhopping the easiest, you gain more speed with strafes compared to lower fps values and I guess there are more frames to register your scrollwheel inputs so you have a higher chance to get less friction on the ground when hopping.
      fps_max 4: There are invisible triggers in the game that, when touched, do stuff lol. For example, most doors have a trigger placed infront of them that you just walk into in order for the door to open. For some reason if you have some speed and lower your fps to 4 at just the right time, you can hit triggers early (like the game thinks you are farther forward than you actually are or something). some examples: 0:38 using 4fps before that second door to have it open sooner. 0:53 4fps before this doors trigger to be able to keep speed through doorway (if you do not use the 4fps trick, the door opens too slow and you will hit the doors before they open enough). Also at 7:13 for this grenade boost, using 4fps right before grenade explodes so I take less damage from the boost (I guess the game thinks you are farther away from the explosion because of the 4fps). You can also use this 4fps to "skip past" triggers like at 8:17 I only take 1 tick of damage from that toxic waste instead of 2 (there is a trigger there that deals damage when you are inside it). Also you can use it to skip past tripmines like at 17:51 and 21:33.
      fps_max 19.99: We used to use 20fps bind instead but recently people found out that 19.99 helped with a certain trick at 25:06. Sometimes that grenade will "nuke" you and take like 300hp instead of 100 so instead of 20fps we use 19.99 there and it makes the nuke happen less often. So for all "20fps" tricks I use 19.99 fps (but I still call it 20fps). 20fps is mainly used for making npcs turn faster like at 1:01, and for "edgebugs". Examples of edgebugs are at 8:16 and 8:30. In laymans terms, you hit a surface at the very edge and you take no fall damage, 20fps just makes it easier to do. In technical terms I guess the game thinks you are off the edge so you take no fall damage but it also thinks you are on the edge so it gives a bit of friction and you lose a bunch of vertical speed (don't quote me on this explanation lol).
      fps_max 23.02: There is a trick called a "jumpbug" that allows you to avoid fall damage. Pretty much every jumpbug requires a different fps value to make it consistent (I guess its due to how far the drop is), but for the route I am using, I only use one jumpbug at 4:23 so I just need this fps value for it. I don't know the technicals of this trick but if you hold crouch, then uncrouch and jump on the same frame right when you land, you take no fall damage. I have space bound to jump and b bound to "-duck" so I just hold cntrl and press space and b with my thumb at the same time I land.
      Most people are running "RTA" which is short for "real time attack" which means you can use quicksaves and loads. I don't really care about the leaderboard so I am just running Single Segment which means no saves/loads, and if you die in game, you die in real life (jk you just have to restart). It's just for personal enjoyment and goals, but I still submit the runs so they are verified on the leaderboard and I have a cool "SS" label next to the run lol.
      Edit: at around 21:24 my stream was dropping some frames, I wasn't using an fps trick there.

    good run dude!
    Can you elaborate on "scriptless" or provide more resources? Because I'd think that means no bhop script for example, but even +jump on mwheel seems insane to get that consistently or is it really just a matter of practice? I've tried bhopping like that a lot and definitely got better, but could never do it THAT consistently with a keybind? or do you adjust fps for that?
    I guess keybinds to decrease or increase fps also dont count towards scripts?

    • @Sythka
      @Sythka  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's just practice tbh. Anytime I'm hopping, the fps is on 100 (you can see it in the top left corner, it shows as 99 but thats just a quirk of the game, I forget why exactly it does that).
      This is the WON 2005 version of the game which is standard for runs. The steam version has a speedcap at around 550 or something, but WON version has a speedcap of 2000. This just means that in the steam version, once you get over around 550 units per second speed, the game slows you down on your next jump.

      here you can get the 2005 package.

      @@Sythka Kudos to you then, dude!
      being so consistent, especially jumping through windows or up slopes, is absolutely insane. Great run and I hope you dont get carpal tunnel

    • @Jaaayzen
      @Jaaayzen 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sythka Talking about that, do you have resources for running the game scripted? With a bhop script and save/load tools?

    • @Sythka
      @Sythka  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Jaaayzen I'm not really knowledgable on scripted category, not sure which scripts are used and where to get them tbh. For simple autojump you can use "bxt_autojump 1" in console (assuming you have bunnymod xt installed, it comes included already in the 2005 package here: www.speedrun.com/hl1/resources ) Other than that I'm not sure sorry.
      Edit: github.com/parklez/Half-Life-Scripts I found this in the sourceruns discord goldsrc-general channel as a pinned message, not sure if it's out of date but it's something I guess. If you need help with scripted past this, I would recommend checking out the Sourceruns discord server and searching/asking in the goldsrc-help section.

    hey dude how did you do the we've got hostiles glitch i tried to do it but the scientist just won't open the door

    • @Sythka
      @Sythka  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you have to bump the scientist in the chest for a sec after hitting him (if not, he will just stand still). You can use your pistol to shoot him instead of crowbaring, really up to you, just make sure you don't shoot/hit him too early. If you pause the video right when I hit him, you can see there is a line on the ground behind him; make sure you shoot/hit him either right on that line or a bit after it.
      Edit: after bumping his chest for a sec, you have to move to the right to kind of a specific area so that he doesn't run around you towards the tripmine part (just try in the general area I stood and it should work).

      if the door not opens, neither the scients goes wrong side or you save load after elevator. To use npc abuse trick, you shouldn’t load after loading screen. Thats how npc abuse works. if youre not understand, ask me again
