    Thank you Sam. Just changed some of the settings on my iPad Pro. One really nice side effect of using smart color inversion and increased contrast is it makes my digital sheet music easier to see without blurring staff lines.and notes without having to use a special program to increase the size of the music. I'll have to check out your android video to see if there is anything more I can do to help with my phone and Fire tablet.

    These were some great tips. Really helped me set up my father's iPad more optimally for him. Takes a while for him getting used to the triple-tap zoom functionality, but it's really helpful for apps that has no or restricted zoom features.

    Why doesn't Kindle (I have scribe) have more accessibility options? They have"standard" and large', which only applies to the interface. The text looks about size 9pts in large mode! What? You can make the fonts bigger for reading, but not in the interface. I'm having these issues with my laptop as well when using office products. I can get the working windows bigger, but not any of the menus or actual interface of the sifferent software. Also, Inverting helps me, but then web pages don't display properly and it's making me crazy. Thanks for this video! I will use it to set up my mom's iPad to see if that helps her (93 yo, macular degeneration with very low vision) . I'll come back to your channel to see if there's anything that will help me (diabetic retinopathy that popped up very recently, after 30 years since diagnosis - ugh!) Glad I found your channel!

    Zoom has a problem on some iPads. I thought my screen was defective; it was quite dark. After spending time with an Apple technician, we discovered that Zoom was darkening the screen. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch, fourth generation, running OS 15.3. Apple is supposed to be working on the problem, but it still darkens my iPad screen. I use zoom on my iPhone 12, and it works beautifully.

    I am photosensitive so I keep my screen low. My wife’s phone hurts and washes out. I do change that brightness manually whenever the situation dictates.
    Full screen zoom is great.
    I don’t voiceover often but it do invert colors often.
    Android still seems to handle smart inversion better.
    I just learned about button shapes. Thanks.
    Triple click gives me a menu of the accessibility options I use.

    Sam, I am working with a blind friend and she is frustrated by some things with her iPhone. For instance, when she calls her automated banking number and it asks her to press 1 to choose something, we cannot figure out if there is a way to add the speech button to the standard number pad that comes up. We live far from support services so I am trying to help her. Specific settings for the totally blind person would be helpful.

    Could you do a video on keyboard shortcuts for apple devices? I’ve noticed that there seems to be a good handful of them and some of the articles that I have come across aren’t entirely accurate or give enough information to go off of. In example, command and option keys were listed for a lot of them but does not specify what key works as those on a standard keyboard.

    I have trouble doing school work because we have a collection of writing and videos. Voice over doesn’t read the italics or highlighted information nor does it recognize when there is a graph for an assignment. It’s hard for me to scroll also because I was completely sighted when I started using Apple products but after an accident, my vision is doubled and very blurry. It is hard for me to read any text and zoom is just lost on me. So far I prefer voice over except for the bugs. Can I turn it on without Siri, because don’t you have to be able to turn Siri on? I don’t have a sited person to help

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually Siri is always turned on and is activated either by long pressing the home button or long pressing the power button on the side of newer devices. You can definitely turn on voiceover without Siri but unless you use zoom, it’s very difficult to find the accessibility settings.

I can’t really see the little tab thing at the bottom of the window, but I found out I can drag it around quite easily as long as I hold it in the bottom center of the box. I will try the whole page zoom again when I’m feeling adventurous. Thank You

    I started wondering if Ipad could be usead as a digital magnifier/video magnifier.
    Whats your opinion? I do have a genuine digital magnifier (Ibis HD is the brand of the device) but Im looking something more robust on hursh enviroment such as garage. I would use this on working with electronic parts and clocks and what not, soldering etc.
    Is the camera good enough for multiple zooming/macro and does the lens have enough lens speed (so it can catch enough light to work)?
    Other thing im worried is the mounting. I would need somekind of mount to "hang" the ipad/tablet right above the object im working on and it should be movable in vertical direction since the objects vary in size.
    This to work in different ways and work applications, I would have to be able to stream/connect the ipad to a separate tv or monitor since I could not always work above the ipad screen. I was thinking of wall mounting a larger tv. Is that possible with a cable or chromecast or with some other way?
    Other thing is the camera app itself. Are there apps that are more usable on magnifying use? Camera apps are usally packed with info and picture mode selections that would not be needed and would just be hazzle on the display.
    When I start to re-think this, maybe a phone would work better at least on the "shoot with phone camera and look from seperate tv" -method? Its smaller but uses pretty much the same camera.
    Would like to hear your opinion.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this is all possible. I’ve actually made several videos about this very topic, how to turn a smart phone or tablet into a digital magnifier/CCTV. I’ve even made videos about using an adapter to connect the smart phone to a television to display the image larger. There’s even videos about special adjustable tablet and phone holders that you can use for this. There’s about four or five videos that you should watch. I would recommend using the search function on my TH-cam channel to look for DIY CCTV videos.

    Which platform do you suggest? I'm in the market for a new tablet. I've always had an iPad (mine is obsolete now) but I have an android phone (Samsung Note 8). So, which has the best adaptability/customization for us?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are several factors that go into that decision. Number one is your level of vision. If you are going to be using magnification and need to enlarge text and icons, android is the way to go since it has more customizable options and a better screen magnifier. However, if you’re going to be using a screen reader then iOS is probably a better option. Voiceover is still slightly better than talkback. Usually I tell people to go with what you are familiar with but in your case that doesn’t apply since you already have both android and Apple products. The final deciding factor would be budget. You can definitely get more for your money if you go the android route.

    • @theblindlife

      There is a Siri section in the settings, however, Siri should already be turned on. If you have an iPhone or iPad that still has the home button, long press the home button to trigger Siri. If your phone or iPad doesn’t have a home button, long press the power button on the right.

    I don’t like the death simple that is displayed at the beginning of the video. It sends a negative message that blindness is some related to death. Sorry but this is how I interpret it and some other people may as well.🙁
