I haven't finished the video yet but, "selling out" may have a different meaning for everyone. He could be selling out by signing to a major label. He could be selling out by working with Chanel (depending on who they exploit). He could be selling out by performing a show during an event (hosted by a bigoted sports league). Either way you spin it, he's "selling out", but, in all of this "selling out", he's kept his message clear: An artist from Compton, who has faith in God, who cares the most about his community, and brings opportunities back to it, money trees.
I don't know if he's doing it for the money. I get the impression that Kendrick cares about how much influence he has, not how much money, and the Super Bowl is the biggest stage. I think he wants to maximalize his influence. I don't know what Kendrick does with his money, but indulging in riches is something the Bible opposes. Based on how he talks about his faith in his music, I would assume he tries not to use his wealth to shore up luxuries for himself. I get the impression that he lives modestly. I don't know what charity work he does or how he uses his money and I haven't looked it up.
he did perform at superbowl before, i dont think its that simple i like to believe (as you said). i really like that you have been asking the question everyone is, made me click on your video instantly. this is why i subscribed
I like to think that to do what his main objective is...to completely take hip hop back to the culture he has to dominate every part of it...and the superbowl is just part of it. I have faith that Kendrick of all people is the one who can show how to do it right and still remain who he is. At the core soul of who he is he has already did a lot of shadow self work, recognized his demons and told them who is the boss lol! You made an excellent point and demons can always come back in the form of something else but I wanna keep thr faith in him and what he stands for. Remember when he did that fashion show and then the words to N95 came out and to do that song...saying to take off the name brands as they are doing the name brand fashion walk was AMAZING...lol! I'm pretty sure he has had this planned way ahead of time like every other move he has made....we can only hope! The key to it i think is to just don't lose yourself....the core of who you are and to remember as quick as it comes it can be taken away...Drake was made an example of that and we all won't forget that...ever...lol!
Kendrick has always been sold out that's why the hood never gravitated to him but damn near everyone else did😆 u can fool everyone except those who are really that. Iykyk type thing😆😉
@@SHyaway64 almost every goods and services under capitalism involves explicit exploitation of workers (mistreatment of workers, poor wage) and consolidation of wealth of those above. while im not saying ceos/owners shouldn't be compensated properly, however when the gap is 200x what your employee makes, it begs the question right.
@@SHyaway64 haha no clue, you need a whole nation to fix it. i guess we (north america) are addressing it in the form of unions, advocating/promoting for local made goods or paying fair wages to workers in 3rd world countries or sourcing materials that are biodegradable/compostable so we don't further pollute other countries with our garbage. but not every business supports this and theres alot of greenwashing and virtual signing involved. im not well educated and informed enough to provide any solution, but you could guess that theres alot of hands in the pie which muddles everything. theres also the whole thing with how our reward/motivation biological system aligns with capitalism quite well, so capitalism isnt something we can ditch overnight because people who thrive in this system, thrive, and they have zero incentive to revamp it.

NFL doesn’t pay the artists to perform. Not sure if that’s what you meant by do it for the money but just wanted to clarify just in case.
I love people who call out Kendrick but also admit their love for NFL football.
Basically that's saying "Kendrick is f***d but so am I"

I personally think he’s going to use the Super Bowl to create a statement of some kind while he’s there.

About your final point, you can't. Remember, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
Wdym?
