Let Goldie lay eggs. When she has about ten , take them up. put them in an incubator. let Nugget set on some, when the weather gets cold try to move him and the eggs into a stall. iIf he will set , then he will be out of the cold. If he gets off the eggs you will still have some babies. Good luck 🥚
Brooke, here in Australia, Emus sit on their eggs in winter …… and they survive our cold winters, which doesn’t include snow for most of the country. So I reckon let them be emus and let them lay & sit on the eggs in the natural time for them to be doing this. They don’t sit here in Spring so that’s not their natural way, which is probably why they went off last time because they got too hot. Hope that helps.
Interesting, if this is their natural time then perhaps let them do what they do. I was going to say they should ask their in house bird expert 💁🏻♀️ what does Mary Carl think should be done?? I would love to watch some baby emus running around 💕
Brook contacted Random Okie Farms and ask them about Goldie. She hatches and raises emu’s as well as other birds and livestock. She is very knowledgeable. ❤
Random Okie Farms pulls her Emu eggs and puts them in incubator. I’m pretty sure she pulls them as she finds (as they are layed). You can contact her and I am sure she will have some good advice. She has done this for several years and done real well with them. She has an amazing array of animals and really is knowledgeable about what she does.
That would be hilarious to see DeeDee trying to carry around an emu egg. Lol. Not sure even rocky or bandit are big enough to carry them ( as in a large enough mouth).
⚠️Contact Marie @Random Okie Farms!!! She’s raised & incubated Emu eggs plus has Emu’s & well educated on them. We on the keyboard side are not Emu educated however can guide you from our YT knowledge of watching homesteaders. 😉 When all is said & done, you must do what is best for your farm. Blessings
I believe we the Cog Squad all agree would love to see a Golden Nugget. Just one. We also understand we don't have to be the ones to incubate, raise and care for it.
If it were me I would let her lay and always pick up all but 2 eggs so she would keep going back to the same place. Pick up those last 2 when you think she's done. I don't think my heart could stand Nugget sitting during the winter. I barely made it through the Spring. I was so happy when y'all decided to pick up those eggs last time.
I used to manage a school kitchen and we would get chick peas as a government commonodity. I would season and roast them in the oven and they were delicious. The kids thought they were nuts!
Love to all. I think you should gather the eggs after she finishes laying, but don’t let Nugget set on the eggs. Incubate them if you wish, but Nugget is so precious, I think it will be too hard on him, especially in winter. I Love watching your videos and all your animals. May God bless you always!
I agree 💯. It's extremely difficult to hatch emu eggs. They've got to be weighed every day and humidity has to be changed accordingly in the incubator.
If you let Nugget sit, I think you'll need to build a portable 3-sided shelter, with roof, that you can assemble over him and the nest and anchor to the ground. They can withstand temps in the low 20º range, he'd just need protection from the wind and rain.
It's a tough decision for sure Brooke. I tend to think no more babies wanted. Kind of like getting animals fixed. No unwanted babies. Don't feel guilty about your decision.
Good luck with your decisions. I don't know anything about Emu, so I can't help with suggestions. I would just worry about bad winter weather and Nugget. So enjoy your videos. Thanks
I absolutely love that y’all have ur mom with yall Brook. I’m very close to my mom and would love my mom to be that close. We r only a hour apart but I would love her to be here with me. My mom is the best and has always been. Y’all r wonderful to bring her so much love and comfort and family. 🐾❤️🐾
My .I'm lived with me for 25 yrs. She was my best friend. I miss her so! We did everything together. When she cou!dnt walk good anymore, I bought her a scooter and still took her everywhere. Moms are the best
I'd ask the raptite experts on the emu problem. They might be able to make your decision easier. As always we trust you to do what is right for the emu's. Have a blessed day 💞🙏💯
As you know, emus are a big responsibility. Thats a lot of chicks to rehome if you can even part with them, if they hatch. Im an Aussie and emus do roam in snow counrty too. Sometimes people need to remember that just because you have animals doesn't mean they should breed them. That doesnt refer to Cog Hill, you guys are good😊❤🇦🇺
Not having a freeze dryer, i make chili lime roasted chickpeas. Uses 2 cans of chickpeas, chili powder, lime zest, lime juice, a little bit of sugar and olive oil. Toss , spread on a baking sheet and roast until dried and crispy. Very yummy snack.
Good morning, Brooke! Baby emus are called chick's. After they are a week or two old you could call them nestlings ( that might help you distinguish them from chickens). Emus egg laying clock seems to be inbreded to their Australian heritage and no matter where they live they are set to lay eggs clutches May to June And then October thru January. So it is entirely possible Goldie might lay eggs this fall. It is very interesting to read up on how they lay and when Nugget would know to sit. Because of Jason's very tender heart and great love for all your animals I don't know if he would ever be able to let Nugget sit on eggs. Nugget would be fine but I don't know about Jason! And I guess (since you did ask us) is to ask what would you do with 5, 7, 10 little emu babies? Whatever you decide will be the best for your situation. Hugs from N.C..❤
I agree with this comment. What will you do with all the little babies? You are wonderful and responsible pet owners but many other people aren't. There comes a time when there are just too many babies.
I can’t help you, Brooke. My human emotions take over and I find it difficult knowing he will be sitting for so long all alone. BUT Nugget isn’t human, so I don’t know what to tell you ❤️
If nature was for a clutch to be laid, but in Alabama weather, not Australian, then the weather is the answer ... Therefore , the outcome for Nugget is of concern ... If when the first egg is laid You are able to form a shelter around the area that does not put nugget off then I would let him sit...you could then, after the clutch hatched, move the whole shootin-kabang up to nugget and Goldie stall in the barn until the colder weather subsides.... It's a choice and I wish you well with whatever you do finally decide... Brooke, you and Jason a wonderful and will always make the right choice for each of your animals... Love and hugs, Denise 💗🌸💗
Sorry I love emus. But...... If you take away their view they will leave the nest it is not safe anymore in Nugget's eyes He needs to be able to see if there are predators. The nest itself is inconspicuous And when Nuggit sits on it because of its camouflage, it looks more like a bush and dead leaves than a bird🙂🧡🧡
Good morning Brooke and babies. It doesn't matter if you talk about the projects you and Jason do together, the way you give your thoughts are totally different. Never had those but they sound interesting. ❤❤❤
Okay I was going to say incubate but then you said about the initiation thing that got me thinking 🤔💭 maybe it's best Sir Nugget hatches but maybe you can move his nest into one of the stalls fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞
Years ago, my mom and I shared a property line, and she and I came up with the idea to plant climbing seven sisters pink rose bushes. 3 years later it was going wild and starting to make my chain link fence to sag! It was a chore to tear that rose vine off the fence as that rose has a zillion thorns lining the vines. My mom and I often stood at that fence talking and winding rose vine through the fence lol.
Hi all. I have never left a comment before, but the thought of Nugget sitting on the eggs again fills me with dread I was so worried for him last time. So (A )it's a natural thing for Goldie to lay eggs as your hens do but you collect all hen eggs and put them on your stall and they forget about them. You can eat emu eggs the same way as hen eggs. (B) you don't need anymore baby emu you would have to find homes for them. You don't let the other animals breed freely ( Goats, Pigs). It would be best to collect the eggs as they are laid and Goldie and Nugget will forget about them and carry on as normal. I'm sure the pigs would love some scrambled emu egg for breakfast.
Brooke, if you don't want to put Nugget through sitting for 60 days,I'd gather after she is done. Intubating emu eggs is quite different from regular eggs. You have to weigh them. Turn them. And mark the dates. So it would be easier if you could do it all at once rather than have it all different
I agree with Jason. Don't let Nugget sit! Incubate any eggs she lays. Take them one at a time as she lays them. The new fence looks incredible! Can't wait to see those beautiful gates once you get them hung. Amazing addition to your property! 💖
Listening to you talk about how Goldies behavior and her poop has changed just confirms that you and Jason are very in tune with your animals❤ I've always known it but this confirms it! I honestly believe that you and Jason will do what you think it the right thing for Goldie and Nugget! I think I know what you will decide but I'm going leave that decision in you all's hands! Give Topper a hug from his biggest fan🤗
RE: Emu eggs. How about collecting as Goldie lays them and move them to a ‘nest’ in/near their stall? Maybe Nugget would sit there and he and the babies would be protected during winter. I’m curious to know if Goldie would change her laying spot if you collect them. Love your farm and family.
Gm Brooke, please don't allow Nugget to sit, especially in the winter. I'm not too sure about collecting each egg & intubating them. That's a lot of work on you. So, in my opinion, let them skip this year and wait until the following year. Whatever decision you guys come up with, I know it will be best interest for the babies. Love you, Glinda from South Florida 🍊
Id like to see you all take and incubate 2 or 3 eggs. Hatch out a couple nugglettes. I agree with jason i think sitting is too hard on Nug. Maybe give nug 1 or 2 to sit on. You could always reintroduce the little nugglet, take its broken egg shell and the nugglette and sneak them out under nug when he walks away from his eggs to stretch his legs or whatever. I would at least try. You tried that with the geese that one time. I sure do love your channel❤❤❤
OH YES!!! Dr Marycarl! Ask her. Debby, Marycarl knows so much about her featherd babies. Im sure that’s why Ron said that.☺️ I don’t want Nugget sitting again. Especially this time of year. Well, it would be better than the last clutch in the heat. I would LOVE TO SEE BABY “Golden Nuggets” running around! I’d say try to incubate. After you have looked at all of them to see if any are viable. ( not sure if that’s the right word ). I’m not really a Hummus kinda lady, but I love the spices you used. Was it smoked paprika that you used? That’s my favorite. I like regular too. Love your videos Brooke. Please keep us updated on the “Golden Nugget” eggs. 😁 Love from Texas!❤️
Also, You can reach out to Random Okie Farms. She knows alot about incubating them. They are much different than other birds but I am sure you can do it.
Good morning. I'm sorry that I have no answers for you reguarding the Emu eggs. Although, I found it interesting what the woman from Australia said when they lay there in the winter. You'll make the right decision that is best for your farm. OXOXO to you and all your family and animals ❣️
Brooke I just read that the male picks the nesting spot. So watch Nugget and where he lays a few twigs and or leaves. The article said the first couple eggs are usually NOT fertile. So if you incubate mark and leave the first 2/3 and keep the ones after that.. Excited🤗
Maybe Nugget could sit on them put a tent over him to help with wind and weather. As Goldie layes her eggs. Date them. When she's done laying her clutch. Take some of the first eggs out leave Nugget like 5 eggs to hatch. Incubate the rest, share some with Catherine. ❤❤❤❤
BABY “Golden Nuggets” !!!!!!! I would love to see them running around until they are old enough to be sold/given to others that need a mate like Goldie did. That turned out to be such a magical thing for both Nugget and Goldie. They are always together now. It has been a beautiful thing to watch the bond grow between them. I would like to see them more often. I wrote under someone else’s comment that I think incubate them if they are viable. I would not want Nugget sitting for 60 days again. 💞. Well, after reading a few comments, maybe I have decided that letting nature take its course. I’m really undecided now. 🤷🏼♀️
Hello 👋🏻 from NW Arkansas, wanted to thank you for sharing your day with me and all the tips and animals you are so blessed. I hope your health continues to get back to normal 😊
Brook please let Goldie lay her eggs, and incubation them. It would be an amazing experience to watch them hatch. Beautiful to see Goldie and Nuggets babies. Great addition to the farm. Your emu's are so beautiful and friendly 😍
Hi Brooke, I don't have a freeze dryer, but I do roast chick peas along with broccoli, cauliflower, and rainbow carrots, garlic cloves, and some red onion. I add the spices you mentioned, a little olive oil, and turmeric and black pepper for the anti-inflammatory benefits. I do use the canned, rinsed chick peas as well. I love watching all of y'alls videos!
I’m wondering if you gather them one by one as she lays them if she would just continue to lay trying to build a nest of 17ish? I think it would be better for them to have their eggs to sit on in the spring. Gathering them after she lays her clutch would be the best in this situation, in my opinion.
I also agree with Australia. But I am curious . If you were to gather eggs when she’s done laying and moved them somewhere safer, would Nugget still set on them after they’ve been moved? 🤔
I like the idea of grabbing a few as she lays them and try incubating, but also moving the rest of the eggs to the barn and see if Nugget will sit on them under the protection of their stall when it gets cooler. If either way doesnt work, try again and let him sit on the whole clutch in the spring.
If you did this, you can always place a couple of straw bales outside fence to block the winds. So many decisions, sigh. But if GG FARMS is willing to try and Incubate a few to see if fertile yet, good choice.
You are such happy people with out being over the top . I can tell your emotions with out exazerations, so down to earth . Thank you for sharing your life . Thank you for being you , I wish you well .
I agree with the Aussies. Let him sit on these. That way if you do have hatchlings, they'll be connected to the parents and will be bonded. Less worry about trying to mesh them together later.
Hey there. Against the majority, I would let him sit on the eggs, but have the incubator ready and on standby if inclement weather comes around. You could also split the clutch beteeen Nugget and the incubator, giving him the chance to raise a small brood on his own.
Emus are originally from Australia, as you know, and the weather is different there, so laying any time of the year is not an issue( maybe only the rain, no cold or snow) but when they are taken to other climates, their instincts don't change, just their location! They will lay regardless of the conditions, and it is up to the caretakers to to accommodate them as best they can, however they can. Whether that is removing the eggs or moving the nest or incubating the eggs( which is a lot harder than incubating chicken or fowl eggs!) Good luck with your decision!😊❤
I think you should split the nest. Take half and incubate them and leave half for Nuget to nest on. If she lays less than 8, incubate them all. You can sell the babies. You bought Nuget one time, so others would want to buy them.
Lol I would almost bet if 15 eggs hatched , they will have 17 emus. In over 5 yrs watching I have saw them rehome a few roosters , a few goats , and a few peacocks. Less than 20 animals that I recall. The 3000+ lb steer , 3 wihered goats , multiple elderly chickens etc is a hint. Once the animal is there its 99% gonna be there for life. They are different but I understand and respect that difference.
Not sure what others are saying, but what about scrambling and freeze drying them? According to all the articles I read, they're delicious, tasting like a creamier version of a chicken egg! More nutritious, too! But whatever y'all decide, we'll accept it as it's your home, your emus and your eggs. Excited to see what you decide! 😊
If something looks wrong during Nuggets time sitting they can pull the plug. I understand Jason’s concerns,he loves Nugget. If the chicks look cold they can bring them in.
Sounds like winter is the Emu natural season for laying. Let them do what comes natural. If they raise then you'll know from now on. I bet the summer time was way to hot on the eggs. Let the two of them decide. Man those chick peas look so good. I'm going to suggest garlic powder, onion powder, Smoked paprika, and cuman and toss in toasted seasame oil
I love your show. I watch it everyday. You make me so happy the way you take care of your animals and the names you have for your animals. They are so precious. I love Moody he gets in trouble and he looks at you like I didn't do it and peaches the pig. Absolutely adorable and Loretta and Gus. How precious and the emus are so beautiful you make me feel so happy seeing how you take care of these precious animals. God bless you
I would let them be emus and allow nature to happen as intended. But of course Jason and you are the two dealing with the situation at hand and providing for their care. I feel the real question is if you can deal with this situation, not if Nugget can. I'm sure you'll do what is right for all involved.
Brooke & Jason, I love watching your video's. About the egg situation ~ maybe take the first 5 or so & incubate & the rest, try setting up inside the barn where Nugget can lay on them out of the elements. This way if you do get baby nuggets, switch them out with the one's he's laying on~ or just before they hatch, swap them out with the one's he's sitting on. Would love to see if having baby nuggets are possible. This way your experiencing 2 ways of going about it. Its obvious they both want to extend their family.....& nugget would be a great father!
👋 Let Nature take it's course. Surely Goldie would run to you for help if her eggs or Nugget needed your help. All the animals feel your love and protection. 😊

Y'all have a wonderful day today :)
Wait for Spring please
Let Goldie lay eggs. When she has about ten , take them up. put them in an incubator. let Nugget set on some, when the weather gets cold try to move him and the eggs into a stall. iIf he will set , then he will be out of the cold. If he gets off the eggs you will still have some babies.

Let Mother Nature do her thing
Brooke, here in Australia, Emus sit on their eggs in winter …… and they survive our cold winters, which doesn’t include snow for most of the country. So I reckon let them be emus and let them lay & sit on the eggs in the natural time for them to be doing this. was going to say I agree with Jason, but after reading your comment I'm undecided 😅 makes sense to me, tho now , hope she reads/sees your comment. ❤
Yes their instincts tell them what to do…
With that said, if you don’t want babies, then gather them before he sits. 😊
Here here 👏
Interesting, if this is their natural time then perhaps let them do what they do. I was going to say they should ask their in house bird expert 💁🏻♀️ what does Mary Carl think should be done?? I would love to watch some baby emus running around 💕

Yes, she can find em!

I love how the emus followed you around the pond on the dam side. You can just see how much they love you & Jason! ❤
If you want Emu babies ... incubate, please don't let Nugget sit, 100% agree with Jason
I agree incubate the eggs don't let Nugget set on them.
Yes it would be so sad to watch Nugget sit so long.
Could you give the babies back to be raised by nugget if you did that?
@kerlyn - I agree 💯 %
marie at randon okie farms gathers hers 1 by 1 ti incubate

I was going to say the same thing, had to check comments to see if anyone else said it 1st 😂 Great minds think alike 👍🏼💕
Agree 100% !
I agree , I was as stressed as Jason was about Nugget setting out in the weather, and winter is a different ball game to deal with !
That's what I was thinking
I used to manage a school kitchen and we would get chick peas as a government commonodity. I would season and roast them in the oven and they were delicious. The kids thought they were nuts!

Hello Brooke and Jason you can hatch emue eggs ❤
No mum and dad need to do what nature intended 😢
I agree 💯. It's extremely difficult to hatch emu eggs. They've got to be weighed every day and humidity has to be changed accordingly in the incubator.
Agreed
Nugget is a pet and not an emu in the wild….please don’t put him through that ordeal again….
I absolutely love the fence!! I cannot wait to see the gate up. Wonderful idea
And later on, if the roses get too wild, put in 2 more taller 4×4's and make an arbor structure.
Just a thought, I know Jason loves his roses.
@@gafairbanks2434 yes, yes, yes. I love roses too

They have the port a huts just lay one over top of him when he sits 🙂
Jason does the best imitation of Goldie strutting! It makes me lol!❤

Noooo. Don’t let Nugget sit through a winter in the USA. He was not well last time. Gather the eggs, candle them, and incubate them.
I actually heard Goldie drumming for the very first time! Yea!
I think you and Catherine should each incubate some. If Nugget sits on eggs put a portahut over him with straw.
My thoughts, exactly!
I can’t help you, Brooke. My human emotions take over and I find it difficult knowing he will be sitting for so long all alone. BUT Nugget isn’t human, so I don’t know what to tell you ❤️

I agree with the one at a time method. Less stress on Nugget.
Maybe put a trail cam over in the area she is scoping out
Good idea!
Brooke, I think maybe take half of the eggs and incubate them maybe give half to Catherine
I love the fence run with the ground!

Just as much as enjoying the farm, My wife and I really enjoy your stories about your farm friends. Thank You
After the eggs are laid build a straw bale house around the nest for protection

Brooke we'd love to see the sheriff have little ones
*little deputies!
I cannot wait to see those beautiful gates brooke.....the fence I think should stay natural. ❤❤❤❤❤
I airfry canned chickpeas with spices for crunchy snacks.
Me too!
Good morning Brooke, well I suggest incubate emu eggs this time .
I love that you put the results of the Free-Dryed food in the same video !! Thank you 🙏
You need an expert! Contact Dr Marycarl, she's located in your area. She'll have the answer.
😂 Lol!❤
Lol, MaryCarl is their daughter
That time of year, I wouldn't let Nugget sit. Too stressful. Incubate them please❤
Good morning. I'm sorry that I have no answers for you reguarding the Emu eggs. Although, I found it interesting what the woman from Australia said when they lay there in the winter. You'll make the right decision that is best for your farm. OXOXO to you and all your family and animals ❣️
Good Morning Brooke, Jason and Mary Carl…have a wonderful day❤
Brooke I just read that the male picks the nesting spot.
Good Morning Brooke,Jason and MaryCarl
I’ve baked chickpeas with salt and spices in the oven for a snack. 😋 Good luck for your egg hunt and decision !
Goldie has really come a long way.
Brooke, your new camera quality is just so beautiful. This video was a treat for the eyes, thank you :)
I was noticing that too.
Good morning, Brooke!
Always thankful to see you Brooke, the Farm is a wonderful site!
You and Jason are awesome, and the Love for ALL the Animals is wonderful TOO💕🧡💙😊
Good morning Brooke 🌻
Hello Cogs!!! Beautiful property. So nice Mama lives with you!!! Try Freeze Dried Dr.Pepper. Delicious!! Have a wonderful day!
Good morning Ms.Brooke
I’m wondering if you gather them one by one as she lays them if she would just continue to lay trying to build a nest of 17ish? I think it would be better for them to have their eggs to sit on in the spring. Gathering them after she lays her clutch would be the best in this situation, in my opinion.
Good morning Brooke Jason and Mary Carl thank you for having me along God bless y'all love y'all beautiful job on the fence
Love the new fence it adds pazaat
to the farm.
I think let Daddy Nugget sit. If they hatch keep an eye on the weather and rescue if it gets too cold.
I also agree with Australia. But I am curious . If you were to gather eggs when she’s done laying and moved them somewhere safer, would Nugget still set on them after they’ve been moved? 🤔
LoVe You All ♥️
Absolutely none of my business 😂 Girl 😂 The Emu’s are just like Humming Birds! They Know!!! Naturally!

♥️😘😘😘
Good morning 🌞!
Love your videos, we would like to see you leave everytin to nature.
Good morning.
I would let nature take its course and, if need be, put a porta hut over nugget while nesting.
They’re like geese. They don’t mind the rain too much.
Collect them as she lays them an incubate them. And I am with Jason on not letting Nugget sit!!!!
I say let nature take its course, it is the right time of the year for them and they know what they are doing.
Changed my mind let mother nature take it's course ❤
I like the idea of grabbing a few as she lays them and try incubating, but also moving the rest of the eggs to the barn and see if Nugget will sit on them under the protection of their stall when it gets cooler. If either way doesnt work, try again and let him sit on the whole clutch in the spring.
If you did this, you can always place a couple of straw bales outside fence to block the winds.
So many decisions, sigh. But if GG FARMS is willing to try and
Incubate a few to see if fertile yet, good choice.
You are such happy people with out being over the top . I can tell your emotions with out exazerations, so down to earth . Thank you for sharing your life . Thank you for being you , I wish you well .
No, I would not want nugget to sit on eggs in winter. But, strictly up to you and Jason. Your babies. 💙🩷
I agree with the Aussies. Let him sit on these. That way if you do have hatchlings, they'll be connected to the parents and will be bonded. Less worry about trying to mesh them together later.
Those silky babies are gonna be So Adorable.😊
Hey there. Against the majority, I would let him sit on the eggs, but have the incubator ready and on standby if inclement weather comes around. You could also split the clutch beteeen Nugget and the incubator, giving him the chance to raise a small brood on his own.
Brooke please incubate the eggs baby emus are adorable. 😊
I'm very hard of hearing and I'm using ear buds I was able to finally hear Goldie!😊🧡💜🧡
Nuggo won’t sit til there’s 17 eggs.
But Jason doesn't want nugget to sit on them this time because he really loves him to be sitting that long and it maybe cold 🥶
Hugs and Prayers ya'll I think ya'll should let nature take its course.
I would gather them one by one! Don’t let nugget sit on them! I agree with Jason
God bless you
Let Emus be Emus. They know what is best for them.
oh my, lol, we have gone from goat “fries” to emu poop - farm life ❤😂
I would let them be emus and allow nature to happen as intended.
😂😂
