    Take Your House Back is hosted with three of us, myself, Dana from A Slob Comes Clean and Cas from Clutterbug. We talk big picture about how to declutter and focus a lot of attention on working through obstacles like sentimental items, unsupportive family members and other hang-ups. This course is FUN, there is a lot of involvement from all three of us and the ideas are specific to those who haven't been successful in the past.
    Ideal for those who have been decluttering for a long time with little success and those looking for more community and support.
    In the Declutter Your Home in 15 Minutes a Day course we go through the workbook, breaking down specific areas of your home in detail to be able to declutter faster and with more confidence. If you want to know specifics (like how many of each thing to keep) this course is for you.

      If you have baking soda, you can have washing soda. There are a couple of methods, the easiest of which is putting it in the oven. @Prepsteaders has a great video called ‘How to turn baking soda into washing soda’ that shows how simple it is. I buy a big bag of baking soda at Costco for about $13 and turning it into washing soda. The same amount of WS would cost at least 60 bucks. There IS a difference between baking soda and washing soda. The heat changes the chemical composition.

    The updated room is very inviting. The new comforter warms it up a bit. Also, I think that you're being able to update your house decor when you want is the point of minimalism. You made space to do what you enjoy. I read/saw that from one of Joshua Becker's videos.

    This made me smile ~ when I downsized, decluttered, Marie Kondo'ed & now Swedish death cleaning...I would see remnants of all my DIYs in my life line. Did you know mauve is a historical color and was much sought out & expensive around 1859. It was the first aniline dye (synthetic). My career was in histologic techniques (histotechnologist) and the colors/dyes just make me "geek out". Beautiful calm room !

    I love the comforter, and the foot board looks terrific. When my husband was alive, he laughingly complained every time that I refreshed a room. Minimalism means something different to different people. I would consider you a minimalist the same way I consider myself a minimalist. My home has color and a few decorative pillows, but it has none of the clutter that used to hang around my husband. 🤣 Your bedroom was and is totally gorgeous.

    Thank you for sharing your ideas and bedroom revamp! In response to your question at the end of the video, the biggest thing we've done to make our bedroom more like a haven is refusing to allow any work-related items to live in our room. Previously, we placed my desk and office supplies in our room, and we had many restless nights. Literally, the day we moved my office space into another room, we slept like babies! Now, our rule is that, as much as possible, we only keep bedroom necessities (i.e., our shoes, clothes, bed and nightstands, lamps, etc.) in our room. We continue to sleep so much better!

    I wonder if the headaches could be from what I am experiencing... bulging discs in my neck from poor posture (caused by rounded shoulders and head tilted forward from things like driving, working on the computer, reading, using your cell phone, sitting in a chair that rounds the shoulders in or tilting the head forward, etc). It can also be caused from lifting heavy things overhead.
    To help counteract it, try following physical therapy tips from Bob and Brad on the internet. I love their "7 exercises you should do absolutely every day" (or something similar to that). Most are things you can do at your desk. Also try Yoga by Aderine, looking up yoga for headaches or neck pain, etc. Both are really helpful!
    If you sleep on your back, try getting rid of your pillow (and/or using a 6x12" thin pillow vertically between your shoulder blades to help drop your shoulders and head back). Good luck!
    If the neck issues are the cause and you allow it to get worse it can cause searing pain down the arm and numbness and loss of use in your fingers as well as very expensive medical bills. I'm hoping to help others avoid what I've been going through.
    BTW... I love you and your family and all the good you are trying to do in the world! Thanks for being such a blessing to your fellow man!

The finish wore off over time from using the door over the last ten years and I can see the brass coming through now and cannot stand it, but it is integrated into the door and I do not want to replace what was over $11k ten years ago just for a handle.

    I've been learning a lot about laundry in the last few years, from my clean cloth nappy group! To get really clean laundry you need sufficient surfactants, heat and agitation. Think about washing your dishes - to clean something really dirty you need hot water, enough detergent and a good scrub. Using a full dose of mainstream detergent + booster in warm/hot water with a properly loaded machine will give a great result. You don't need to have grungy sheets or have stinky laundry if you leave it overnight. If however you want to use a 'natural'/plant based detergent you'll need a bigger dose to get enough surfactants. If you use cold, or do small loads, you'll have to compensate for that also (eg. use more detergent). Since I started washing this way I've rescued clothes on the verge of tossing, and never had to worry about stains.

    • @beckyl9454
      @beckyl9454 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't warm/hot water cause clothes to shrink and fade? My washer has an agitator still in it. I've noticed newer washers don't.

    • @ewen9415
      @ewen9415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do need to consider the care labels when washing. I usually wash everything on warm (40°C) and it's fine. Sheets and towels are usually fine on hot. Womens tops are notoriously prone to shrinking in my experience though, so I swing between hand washing and 'if it doesn't make it in the wash, it doesn't make it in my cupboard!'

    Love how your new bedroom turned out. I seen the video where you & Tom were trying to figure things out & you had just showed this room for the first time. Your bedroom gave me ideas for our own. Like you, I tend to spend more on home decor rather then clothes. I always feel good when I change things out & I do not see anything wrong in doing that. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for sharing, I like your down to earth attitude and find it very consoling that even in your very well organized home some things „seem to creep into your bedroom“.
    I also try to have a very calm and minimalistic bedroom but for some reasons some things end up there because I place them there „just for now“ to have them out of the way.
    Currently I am decluttering and reorganizing my tiny apartment hoping that will stop because I will have a home for every item afterwards and your decluttering videos are a very helpful inspiration for this process. 😀👍
    Thank you so much! 🙏

    I went through and simplified my bedroom and it looks so much better. My husband and I both had a ladder type shelving on each side of the bed so it was 8 shelves all together. It drove me nuts with how much stuff would gather and collect dust. So they came out of the bedroom and now we don’t have any side tables and I actually love the simplicity of it. So much cleaner looking!

    I love all your diy home decor projects. I just put down a rug my friend gave to me for my living room. I had helped her pick it out a few years ago and would have bought it myself, except it didn't go with my furniture at the time. Now we have both changed our furniture and this rug goes with my decor and she bought all new furnishing and a new rug. It made my living room look so much better. It anchored the room and made it cozy. It's funny how a small project like that can make such a difference. But it's also something I haven't had the time to do because I've been 'managing my inventory' for years. I'm so done with having so much stuff! I'm a Bee so I'm visual. Out of sight out of mind. However the procrastination that seems to go along with that reasoning just doesn't work! Before my friend arrived I bustled around the house making space and finishing small projects to the point of exhaustion. That's so unnecessary and very difficult at my age (69). I have so many diy projects that I haven't completed since I moved into my very small home 4 years ago. It bums me out to see them unfinished daily, just to have the screaming at me to finish them NOW! I've been pacing myself to achieve both the decluttering and the projects as best as I can. I invested in Take Your House Back and it's keeping me focused on what's important and what to let go. Thanks for all your help. It's been an interesting ride!

    I so appreciate you and your videos. I’m a clutter bug with ADHD (they are definitely connected). I feel more at peace when things are free of clutter. I love the advice you shared, “take it there now”. I tend to get distracted and leave chores half done because I got derailed by other tasks I come across. I’ve been actively working to declutter my home (not that you can tell yet, lol!). For me, starting with selling my clothes at a consignment shop and some other items at a friend’s garage sale has been a great way to start because I get a reward- cash! Then I can start to see some of the other things that I haven’t used in forever, and it’s easier to give them away.
