I loved this. When Dean said that Benny had been more of a brother over the past year than Sam had ever been I felt that was way to harsh and unfair. Sam has been attacked by hunters because of the physic powers yet Mary had made that deal, he was attacked by everyone for releasing Lucifer but all he did was kill Lilith a powerful and destructive demon and it was actually Dean who caved first and started it all yet no one ever attacked him over it. Then the whole thing about not looking for Dean when he went to Purgatory, what I first thought at the end of season 7 was how the hell was Sam expected/going to solve any of this on his own; Bobby was dead, Dean and Cas missing and how was he supposed to know they were even in Purgatory and if so how to get them out given all that had happened in season 6, not to mention where on earth (or hell) Crowley had taken Kevin. He was somehow meant to have done all that on his own and given what happened in season 4 when Dean left him I thought where Sam ended up was the better outcome (although I hated that storyline). Next you have Dean who CHOOSE to take on the mark of Cain and all the destruction that brought yet no one attacked or blamed Dean over it, and Sam was the one who rallied everyone into working together to remove the mark, yes it released the darkness but then again when Sam was willing to die Dean had tricked him into saying yes to Gadreel and all the trouble that coursed. When Amara was free the blame was yet again put on Sam for it despite in the end Chuck got his sister back and it was Dean who got rewarded with Mary's return. Don't get me wrong I love Dean but with that one line it made me think of all of these and how unfair it has been to have blamed Sam for just about everything and he has had to pay the price for them everytime, Dean almost seams to be the one connected to everyone and cared about by them while Sam is just a temporary 'business' partner, with the exception of Cas at times who has shown how much he cares for Sam.
Man, I'm totally with you! I love Dean too, and I know he tries. He really does, and like anyone, he (usually) is just doing the best that he can with what info he's given. But it also seems like he's almost always given a pass but Sam gets crucified for every little mistake, every little mishap, even things that weren't even his fault, both in the show itself and also in the fandom. (I still get hot under the collar when watching the Season 8 finale, and just before Sam goes into the church to do his confession, Dean brings up ALL his past mistakes, and several things that he wasn't even responsible for, like loosing his soul (that was Cas' fault, though it wasn't intentional) and not telling him (he didn't even KNOW that was the problem, just that "something wasn't right". Not until Cas preformed the "Soulanoscopy" on him and found it to be absent.) And as you pointed out, freeing Lucifer was as much on Dean as it was on Sam. Though, honestly, I still mostly blame the Angels for that one. They were manipulating things for a LONG time in order to bring about the Apocalypse, and even Dean, at one point admitted "Who would have thought that killing Lilith was a bad thing?" He certainly didn't until Cas told him. He was ALL for killing Lilith, he just didn't want Sam to do it his way. If Dean could have, HE would have ganked her, before finding out the truth. But EVERYONE, including Dean continuously blamed Sam for it, until I think eventually even Sam started to believe it must be true. Same with "leaving him in Purgatory". Dean kept harping on him about it ALL the time, regardless of how often Sam explained the situation. He didn't KNOW. He'd had NO way of knowing. But he's looked up to his brother for so long, I think even he started to believe it was all his fault. And then the following season, when Dean took away his free will, and helped an angel trick Sam into accepting him, just to keep him alive... the truth is, Sam was right. Dean couldn't face being alone. And he's never been possessed, so he has NO idea what it's like to have your own will ripped from you. When Sam eventually found out, I think all he wanted was for Dean to understand. Understand why he was angry. Why "being family" wasn't some band-aid to slap on all the problems and hope they go away. Why, what he really wanted was for his brother to actually trust him. And it still bothers me that that never really got resolved, because then Dean went off and got the Mark of Cain, and Sam became more worried about him than about getting him to understand something that he was CLEARLY never going to allow himself to understand. I am glad though that by Season 11, they finally seemed to have arrived at more equal footing, and things seem better between them. Even when they don't agree on something, even if they STRONGLY don't agree, they seem to handle it better. (And I'm sorry this was so loooong! I can really get going sometimes, especially when it comes to Sam. *LOL*)
I agree. Sam gets blamed the most by Dean. I always was on Sam's team when he would ignore Dean and distance himself from him for two weeks cause Dean is that stubborn parent that thinks hes always right and saves Sam when he doesnt wanna be saved. Sam is a big boy he can take care of himself and it gets annoying sometimes. Also Dean can be selfish sometimes cause Sam was always the smarter more responsible brother (even in Dean's dream in Djinn episode, he saw Sam had a better life than him if they didnt hunt in another life) he dragged Sam away from Jessica and out of college because he couldn't stand to be alone. People over look Dean's flaws cause the show is pretty much from his point of view. When sam went to the dark side with Ruby to save lives and get stronger cause he thought Dean was gone, the writers didnt even let the viewers hear Sam's side of the story. I agree 100% with your comment.
I'm not crying you're crying!! *wipes off sobbing mess* this is just too good to be true. This is amazing. I'm only on season 11 episode 17 but you can feel the love and warmth and the sadness throughout this video. Great job!
Dean proves over and over again that his type is so much stronger than the Sam type of people. Don’t get me wrong, I love Sam (the character), and I love the Sam-types of ppl (in real life)... I know they have their place in the world, but so often they suck the life out of the people working the hardest to truly save everyone. Sam loves Dean and HAS often been there for him, but Dean has lost out on so much in life FOR Sam’s life to be better daily. Just my thoughts. 🙂
Not really Sam's emotionally stronger than Dean. Dean is so codependent on Sam and can't live without him. Sam cares for Dean more than anything, but what drives him is doing the right thing.
