Pro Tip: Don't try to drink anything when Lloyd Bridges is on screen.
Also, "Hot Shots! Part Deux" (1993) is definitely worth watching. Somehow Lloyd Bridges is even funnier in the sequel.

The food love scene is a parody of 9 1/2 Weeks, a kinky 80's movie that became notorious for a scene like this. Basic Instinct is another one that is often referenced in comedies and parodies. There is even a movie called Fatal Instinct that is very much in a similar vein to Hot Shots.

Guys, this movie spoofs more than just Top Gun. The food sex scene for instance spoofs "9 1/2 weeks," a movie with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger, which had some all time greatest steamy sex scenes. There's also references to Dances with Wolfs, Rocky, Superman, Gone with the Wind, and No Way Out. Also, I'm sure you'll watch the sequel, as it's one of the few movies who is actually better than the original.

the "breakfast by the fridge" scene was a take-off/spoof of a famous sex scene from a cheesy pretentious 80s sex/rom dram/thriller movie called "9 & a half weeks". It was sort of like "50 shades of grey" 30 years early.

Great movie. Another Parody is Top Secret with Val Kilmer who is also in Top Gun . Also a great 80's spy romantic comedy with the guy who plays Goose who is almost unknown today is Gotcha! which I highly recommend . This movie parody allot of movies not just Top Gun. It parody dances with wolfs for example and the scene with the piano is a parody on a movie Baker Boys (Shrek also parody it). The dentist scene is a a parody on a great thriller movie called Marathon Man with Dustin Hopman. The sex scene is a spoof on 9 and half weeks a 80's movie with Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. Another great parody you should see with Emilio Estvaz (Chrilie Sheen brother) is Loaded Weapon.

  • @Valerik01
    @Valerik01 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Honestly, I can't wait for you guys to watch the sequal. Benson is even better in that one imo. Seriously, it's so damn funny. Instead of it being more of a Top Gun parody, it's more of a Rambo 2 parody. While I'm sure you'd be best able to get every single joke if you were to watch all the remaining Rambo movies and others that they parody I can assure you it's absolutely hilarious even without having seen all of those.
I mean don't you want to know what happens with Tupper? Ramada? Benson? Saddam?

These were some of the funniest best movies. Lloyd Bridges played the BEST goofy straight comedy guy ever in many movies. He was in Airplane also. Pt2 is just as good if not better. Valeria Golino is just gorgeous.

@9:02 Here’s a piece of interesting trivia. The guy on the right with the white hair, that’s the voice actor who played Alfred Pennyworth on Batman the animated series.

The bit when she sings in a red dress on a piano is a spoof of The Fabulous Baker Boys starring Lloyd (The Admiral) Bridges',sons, Jeff and Beau.
Garfield on a window, watch the movie L.A. Story. It is great.

Nothing like a classic farce where everything is absurd but every character plays it straight. The Zuckerberg Brothers really perfected this formula in the 70's, 80's and 90's. The Airplane movies, the Naked Gun movies, the Hot Shots movies. The formula really died when the Wayans Brothers took over the Scarey Movie franchise. The main problem now is that the modern parodies try to cram in too many references rather than focus on a single type of movie with a single story. With all the references it immediately dates the movie at the cost of actually telling a compelling narrative you can follow. Hot Shots is mostly Top Gun with little bits of Dances With Wolves, 9 and a 1/2 WEEKS, and a few others.

Hot Shots: Part Deux is one of those rare examples of a sequel being better than the original, and definately worth a watch.
However, there are a lot of films it references and to get the full experience you should have seen them all first. Ramdo II and Rambo III are perhaps the most obvious spoofs, but there are also plenty of nods to Casablanca, and references to Terminator II, Lady and the Tramp, Predator, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Basic Instinct, The Wizard of Oz, No Way Out, Star Wars...

The food thing was a parody of an iconic scene from the movie 9 1/2 weeks. It's a LOT different in that movie 😉

A lot of those scenes are parodies of movies that came out that year. For exemple "Dancing with Wolves" in the beginning, "9 and a half weeks" for the sensual food scene..etc.

The set up line to the boxing scene was "...they're both managed by Don King." Don King was a boxing promoter of, shall we say, a questionable reputation. The joke was that both boxers were supposed to take a fall.

oh i have been waiting for this one....once you saw First Blood and Top Gun, the countdown was on, for this one and the sequel
people ask "what happened to spoofs? why are there so few and why are they not funny?" the answer i worked out was due when i rewatched movies like this, and Airplane, and other Zucker Bros movies....they are serious films, even if made with jokes and even if designed to have gags and parodies, they are acted, they are well written and whether some of the lines are improvised or scripted, you can't really tell because they are taken or at least made serious...they share that with screwball comedies, theatrical comedies and comedic plays, and to movies like This is Spinal Tap and other Mockumenturies, they are acted serious, professionally and you believe the outragousness because in this world, everything is taken straight and even if odd, it is a part of the world...they share this with Sci-Fi and Fantasy films and many horror movies, as unusual as the creatures, the dialogue, the clothing and the personalities are, they all are taken straight and serious, they exist in this world and it is why very few characters act like this is out of place....which can make the few that do, work
when someone says that we need realism and to explain everything so it makes sense....in the world that these films exist, the outragous stuff makes sense, cause it"s part of the world and the rules that govern it and because the actors take it as real then you can too

Miss comedy in the cinema. In the 90s there were several great comedies. Not now, too bad. Rip Lloyd Bridges, father of " The Dude".
