My '16 HRV has 183k miles with basic maintenance. I was going to just drive it as long as I can, but this Trailsport model has me excited! It's just enough to get you anywhere you will actually go, and not over-built to the point where difficult obstacles feel like driving through the parking lot. Nice job Honda!

Really glad to see manufacturers are implementing some real off-roading features to SUVs these days. While this won't be able to climb a rock wall, it's enough for the majority of folks that go off-roading.
Super nice car, too bad in Canada it will be probably over 70 thousand dollars out the door, or you could finance for 8 years at 8.5%. What family can afford that? Are people really able to afford these things anymore?
Wondering about the gauge cluster in the non-Trail Sport. Saw where TS has what looks like a traditional twin circular readout for speed/tach be it digital or analog but the preview I saw for non-TS shows some wonky cluster with vertical speed/tach off to the sides.

Skid plates are amazing, hopefully you can implement some more aggressive vectoring management at least as good as SH AWD is programmed... Diagonal roller tests videos were showing how slow it use to be to react in compare to some break based awd systems... Big fan of ivtm4 and shawd, please make it happen
They did improve ivtm4 all around, with additional special tuning for trail sport models
Diagonal roller tests are great for comparisons, and I'm glad people do them, but they are conditions that simulate the worst possible conditions that don't actually exist. When's the last time you drove over rollers? We just don't drive like that. If you lose traction, you take traction control off and stomp on the gas.
My '16 HRV AWD, with their basic slip then transfer power to the rear version has never left me stuck... Except for once, when it was new and I didn't know the HRV's version of AWD only works going forward, and I tried to reverse out of a parking spot with 2 feet of snow I was able to drive into just fine. Ever since then I back into parking spots, but again, that is a completely basic AWD system. I've been fine over mountain passes in Oregon, deep snow in upstate NY, and even through a blizzard in Banff NP.
If this Pilot's AWD isn't good enough then it's just not the right vehicle for your needs. I mean no offense by that. 4Runners and Tacomas are awesome if you want lockers; skip the AWD altogether.

It's really quite good, but I wish the skid plate level of performance was extended to the bumper corners and/or undersides. And it's all for nothing if the door trim hangs below the rockers like on the CR-V. Crunch!

I love my Pilot, but wished for more room. Honda needs to make a grand pilot by adding atleast 8 inches of length and 1 inch taller. It would dominate all it's competitors. Honda, please make a Grand Pilot for more 3rd leg room and cargo space. Make it happen!

yeah not sure the reason. If its because there is no room for dedicated storage for the seat in the trunk, its a silly reason. I want to be able to sit 5 without using the 3rd row. Guess I'll have to look into the Touring or Elite trims, although I prefer off-road features and a full size spare than luxury/technology features. If they really did that to save weight for the full size spare just to keep the weight the same across all models, its also a silly reason.
@@PWCDN same here. I would probably get higher trim. I thought about lower trims with bench but then thought what if I wanted to remove middle seat. Better to have that option than not.
its nice... same power train as last year tho... kinda looks like a durango from the back and a jeep from the from... i was hopeing for a more boxier look.. oh well! not like i can afford one, lol good job tho

No Unibody platform.
Acura MDX new Pilot, Ridgeline,Passport and probably Odyssey will share same Global Light Truck Platform as the did before. Before platform was designed for 2nd Generation Ridgeline but MDX and Pilot used it first.
It looks like they have done their homework for what it is.

I don't like the idea of an "all new" anything when buying a car, but Hondas have always had excellent engines, and I'm sure this version of the 3.5 will be no exception. I agree, V6 and a real automatic transmission is the only way to ensure long and trouble free ownership.

The VQ series has earned more awards than any other Japanese v6!.Facts!. Nissans stuck plans to mate everything with cvt's made their lineup undesirable. Now they are gone for the v6 class!. The Rock creek is the competitor to this wonderful pilot!

Toyota and other manufacturers are going to find out when they lose sales that a good chunk of their customers would rather have a smooth, refined V6 and will look elsewhere to get one. I was looking at the Highlander last year but it won't be in the running now that they have dropped the V6. Although they do have the great new Cypress green color available.
